Found a new favourite thing to do: lending a hand. Been helping players with

and having a blast. It looks like a hell of a fight for a single person so as long as the other player distracts the boss I'm melting it from a distance*

*if it remains in one spot

*if I do not get hit

*if it does not jump away the second I start blasting

I am still fairly early doors in this but have noticed I don't really use consumable iteams,  I worry most seem limited and everything resets if you die so worried about wasting things.  Am I being unnecessarily cautious? I haven't really used crafting for anything either

At level 60 I barely touched crafting, I struggle to find anything useful that's worth the resources. I can understand some bombs (holy damage etc) can be very useful in certain scenarios but as a mage I blast things from a safe distance. Maybe I've not found the Good Cook Book for Mages.

You haven't been crafting poison bone darts?!

Surely only use that as a very last resort! @pinholestar

Ah cheers yeah.. interesting. I'd rather not cheese him unless I have to honestly. Good to know it's there as a last resort though.

He's a terrible bullshit boss, frankly, so I have absolutely zero shame in having taken him down by accidentally stumbling across a move that he seemed incredibly susceptible to. :D It's a fantastic fight in concept but the execution is pretty poor IMO.

And I call it a cheese but it's not really, in the traditional sense, because you still need to learn the tells for his close-range attack patterns in order to avoid enough of them to get adequate hits in.

I'm 70 hours in, level 120 and never used them. Which basically says you don't need them. Which means you can craft away and use them since you won't need them anyway.

I haven't even used a great rune and rune arc yet lol.

Did you try it as a group of three? Fight makes more sense as you're basically taking it in turns to grab his attention while the other two attack or recuperate.

I swear it's been built to be played like that. I wish they'd put some proper matchmaking into it instead of fighting over summon signs. I got ridiculously quick at grabbing them but still had to wait 5-10 mins each time.

The fact that they had to make it completeable solo likely damaged how great it could have been.

Considering the all-round stat boost you get from that, it's great to use when you feel you're a bit underleveled for a boss or area.

No, because I resolved to complete this game entirely solo without summoning human help, which would be a first for me in a FROM game.

Radahn is very much intended to be a co-op encounter though, I agree. The fact that there's all the NPCs there on top of the very concept of the fight itself makes it pretty clear.

I'm much the same, and haven't summoned for any other bosses. This one feels too much like you're meant to play it like that, and as his health gets a huge boost it's still far, far from easy.

So I'm thinking of respeccing, having just killed Rennala and currently a clumpy STR-focused melee type. It's decent, but I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of fun as I repeatedly jump-attack people with a claymore.

I'm a complete newbie to the genre, so you can't really use the word 'build' to describe my current state, since I put points in DEX originally that I now never use.

Question is, who has more fun? A DEXy dual-wielding katana type, a magic-focused spellsword (which would mean I could still use my +13 claymore, maybe), something else? FROM seem to have put tons of effort into the magic side of things, I'm constantly picking up spells and incantations that I can't use - so I'm leaning towards respeccing as a magic user.

Any views on the magic user side of things?

Exactly, its like 40 free level ups until you die.  Mad not to use it.

Oh yeah this is me right now too. Every thing I beat gives me some kind of spell rather than weapons or armour so feel like I’m playing it wrong. Be interested to hear what people say as I love the gameplay loop of the combat so don’t really want to lose that by standing far away cheesing enemies with spells.

Also, can I just say how ridiculous it is that I played through Sekiro on Series X and could only save 1 minute of gameplay as video at 1080p and on PS5, I forgot I to record my Godrick fight and went back and could save the last HOUR, before trimming it down. And it looks better than anything recorded on Xbox.

I've not been using the Rune Arcs either, in fact like others I don't use any consumables, even throwing knives despite me crafting them for the sake of it! I have a tendency in games to save these things until I really need it, and then never use them. The Rune Arcs look useful but I'm so likely to just die and waste it I don't tend to bother.

In other I'm So Crap At This news, after 30 hours I've just realised I should be looking at the map. Up to this point I've just been running towards things that look interesting and it turns out there are entire areas of the opening section I haven't been to. It only just sank in last night that I should look at the map in more depth and actually visit the places that look like there's something there. Whoops!

I'm enjoying my character build so far. Got a nice Dex\ Int combo with some ranged and melee spells, and also can quickly switch to sword and shield if I fancy some traditional Souls combat. I'm very squishy though so might have to get that health bar up.

I was wondering that. I don't mind stabbing and slashing away as is, but I've yet to find any really heavy gear since getting the banished knight set from stormveil. Makes me wonder if superheavy Havel-type builds are less catered for this time around.

Not at all. I’ve got loads of huge weapons and heavy armour I can use. You just have to dig into the game a bit.

I had no idea the PS5 could do this?!

I used one rune arc before a boss, died immediately, then never used another. They're like humanity in Dark Souls, they seem rare so I hoard them. Although kindling bonfires for more estus refills was useful in a permanent way.

you get one every time you successfully co-op a boss so it's easy enough to build up a big pile of them helping people out.

I recorded a few of my recent 'miniboss' fights for you John0, but I can't be bothered uploading them because I'm just destroying things. :(

Am thinking of doing a bit of a stream over the weekend though, if my poor PC can handle it.  We're going to make a strength man who likes big weapons!
