Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

When people say this game has quests, do you mean just NPCs giving nebulous hints at something somewhere in the game world and you just stumble across it at some point?

I've met a certain NPC a couple of times now by accident and given him something that I had no idea I actually had or that he wanted. I'm assuming that is a 'quest'?

Genuinely feel at a loose end now this is ‘done’

Have a few minor dungeons to mop up but that’s it.

Then tempted by either NG+ or NG a melee build. But…it’s such a immense undertaking and I’m worried I won’t like it without sense of exploration/discovery.(plus how do you access the inevitable dlc)

Maybe I’ll just horizon…

Go for a Soul Level 1 run. I reckon it should be quite manageable in this because you can level up the weapons so high, there are a lot of powerful talismans, the crafting, and you can suicide run to get a lot of good stuff really on.

I know what you mean that you wont have the sense of discovery, but a SL1 run will bring back the fear and difficulty!

It has proper quests where you have to do things in a certain way in a certain order in order to progress them, which can lead to better gear or even different endings. The quests aren’t signposted, they aren’t kept in a quest log and you can’t refer back to them. You either have to remember, take notes or look them up.

I'm not very good. I already fear everything! :D

SL1 runs are nowhere near as difficult as they sound…. Its more about using everything at your disposal. And here you have a lot more tools than any of the other souls games.

That's cool, I like that there's no quest log quite a lot, it's refreshing that you just play the game and hope for the best. It's absolutely a certainty I will end up just looking them up though, my brain can't retain my kids names let alone some obtuse dialogue from an NPC I met a week ago. Taking notes would be fine, but I'll forget to do that too.

I guarantee there will be some you miss, or forget about, purely because you didn't happen to go to one place first instead of the other, or killed a boss before talking to some guy and therefore stopped the quest progress stone dead. It's pretty upsetting if you're a completionist but hey, that's what NG+ is for!

Everything at your disposal and not getting hit, by anything, ever

No?

Have you ever done a SL1 run? Honestly, they are the most fun I have had with the souls games. Particularly Dark Souls.

You can run past most things, its just the non-optional bosses. You can take 1 or 2 hits from most bosses. Plus you have the physicks flask, loads of buff items, elemental defence etc.

You really have to know the boss patterns well though. Its all completely manageable.

I know it's manageable, I have tried them before in past games, but there are bosses that nearly one shot me at level 136 in Elden Ring with 60 vigor, heavy armour and buffs out my arse. I know it's possible at SL1 (that guy the other day beat the supposed 'hardest boss' at SL1), but it's gonna be haaaaaard.

In previous games they've been so obscure that I'm pretty sure most people could not finish them without resorting to using guides. I usually just forget about them and hope for the best, like you. Rarely ever complete any, though.

Some of them rely on you keeping them alive in various fights though, which is always a pain in the backside. Especially when your best bro goes insane and tries to kill you, anyway. 😭

Really? I dont think I have come close to being one-shotted in this? And I only have 25 Vigor? Maybe I havent got far enough yet 🤣

It's just absolutely crazy how you can come across an incredibly intricate area in this game, like a beautifully designed castle, spend three hours there, fight a great boss at the end, and then find out it's completely optional. Again and again.

Altus Plateau.

Any vague hints on where this is or how I get there?

I’ve defeated Rannala and have since just been wandering around aimlessly and not really sure which rough direction I should be heading in (other than knowing I need to avoid Mordor!)

I'm pretty sure there's some sneaky maths that goes on with the numbers, i.e. a lot of attacks do % of max hp, you're not as squishy at level 1 as you might think.

Don't get me wrong, I still have nightmares about doing Dancer of the Boreal Valley at SL1 back in the day...

But SL1 is great fun :)

Have you found the lift to North East?

It needs some things to work (one of which is in Mordor :P) or there's a path around...somewhere :P

There are two ways to get there: the 'proper' way

Spoiler

(getting two halves of a medallion to activate the grand lift of dectus)

or going via

Spoiler

ruin-strewn precipice, which you find by running up the river in the north of Liurnia, which is how I got there

Edit: my hints are much less vague than @Hexx so i shall spoiler them!

So Radahn made me go full Glass Cannon. Took some massive detours to grab some proper good equipment (Radahn forced my hand, the prick). I uttered "Fuck off cunt" when he died, what a stupid fight. Did not even feel accomplished or proud.

Wow bleed really is a bit broken. Respecced for it and went into NG+ to mop up a few trophies and crushed the first few essential bosses:

1:30 each  Don’t think I needed the summon for Godrick.

Told you, enjoy it while you can, suspect it may get nerfed

I'm running 2 twinblades with my build and they destroy in seconds

What weapon is that? I tried melee Moonviel and it obliterated Margot in about 40s - even with me forgetting I didn't have a shield and just taking a few hits straight to the face.
