Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

Just killed the first boss in a while that I've not been able to take out first time. On the Atlus Plateau...

Spoiler

In the Shaded Castle...

Spoiler

Elemer, The Briar. He was pretty tasty, and, like the other Ball Bearer bosses, ruthlessly punished healing. Still, me and my ever useful regenerating skele-bros got him in the end.

Some interesting lore stuff in this location, too. I'm pretty sure I know now who the 'Valkyrie' is...

Any tips? They're turning me into marmalade with a melee build.

Umm…not really.

Spoiler

I’m melee, I was level 130ish, 60 strength and two handed a big hammer. It only took a couple of goes. I hit very, very hard. Used mimic tear summon which helped

Just did it pretty much as you described there after upgrading a few things. Ta.

Also, am I being thick and just missing the trick to these perfumer enemies?  They are insanely strong and murder me so easily.  Like, it seems bizarre I can tank a hit or two off of a 20ft troll or Iron Golem, but these fuckers just melt me with their wily explodey dust shit.

I'm still on the boss that @Ravern and @Doctor Shark mentioned - I've tried a few things mentioned online and can just about scrape through to the second phase, but even with 39 strength and a big greatsword+14 and the

ashes I'm still very squishy and I feel like my damage is trash compared to what I've seen online. Also because they don't flinch it's like it doesn't matter if I get a hit in or not. I'll probably just go off and pick something else to upgrade before another attempt...

Fair play to you for just about managing! I was finding it difficult at 50ish STR with +9 weapon (sombre), +9 jellyfish. Much easier with the weapon +10, the ashes you mentioned +10. Oh and the 20 odd attempts I had in between.

Fuck me, tonight I finished the (Altus Plateau legacy dungeon)

Spoiler

Royal Capital

The mournful and inexorable spiral ascent towards your inescapable fate, wreathed in the faded grandeur of gold and sorrow. The artistry and craftsmanship on display in this game is just on a whole other level to anything else this medium has ever produced. It’s absolutely awe-inspiring.

Almost as awe-inspiring as the 70 INT sorcery (if you know, you know ;)) that is pretty much a boss delete button. It’s absurdly OP to the point where I’m considering placing a moratorium on its use because it’s kind of trivialised the last few mainline bosses and it positively laughs in the face of mini-dungeon bosses.

Just made it to Volcano Manor. Another amazing journey there and a crazy area. Not sure I should be here yet, as not visited the capital. Also stumped on what to do about the conversation/offer I’ve just had with VM’s two main denizens.

Spoiler

I said yes, but worried there are bad overarching story beats if I start offing fellow tarnished. Or is it just a side story?

Can't answer your question but I've also done it and gotten some sweet sweet rewards!

Thoroughly sick of trying Radahn at sub level 60 now. Sick of his “oh sometimes I’ll barrage after you summon the pot, but other times I’ll just make it up as I go along” bullshit you have to wade through before you’re even allowed a proper attempt.

I’ve been one hit away from killing him so many times, but something stupid happens and it’s the slog of the run back again. It’s just so boring. It’s not interesting at all.

I just wish there was an obvious zone for my level and damage. I don’t know where I’m supposed to be.

I’ve completed every dungeon and boss area in Limgrave, Peninsular and Lakes, including Tree Avatars, according to online sources. Caelid is just fucking awful and the Volcano Manor is just as horrible to be in, but I’ve partially cleared it anyway. Cleared out all the crystal caves.

I’ve had a few days break from this and I hoped to come back to some purpose, but the game seems to be telling me to hit random mobs dotted about the landscape until I have twenty thousand runes. Surely not. Unless you’re meant to just run old places like the Academy for runes.

Feel like I’m missing an densely packed area or something to get me into the 60s.

I really struggled with Radahn. Spent at least an 1.5 hours banging my head against a wall at about level 45ish I think. Went away levelled a bit like up to level 52ish, not enough to make much difference. Tried again, got him in 2 goes. The only real difference? After summoning pot guy initially, instead of running forward and summoning Blaidd then breaking right as I had done every time to that point, I went left after pot guy and summoned Blaidd from slightly further back, then circled around on the left.

Suddenly my summons started being able to stagger him and he ignored me more. I don't know if going left put him into a different pattern or if it was all in my head and I just got lucky.

This probably isn't helpful info lol.

Dragon rot spell, which just required a few extra levels.  Made his fight soo simple.  Hit him once, run far away.  Repeat and done

I’ve done enough of the Manor to kill the boss and get to Renna.

I hadn’t found the horrendous ant river so I did that tonight as far as I’m allowed to regarding the quest. Killed the boss. Also did another set of caves with a Magma wurm on the edge of Caelid. Just a couple of levels in it all though.

Wow bleed really is a bit broken. Respecced for it and went into NG+ to mop up a few trophies and crushed the first few essential bosses:

1:30 each  Don’t think I needed the summon for Godrick.

Which specs influence bleed?

So in terms of the critical path (without glitches):

Spoiler

You can run straight to the Draconic Tree Sentinel and beat him at the start of the game, probably using the Decius Medallion because nipping to the two forts is quicker than the mines. But to get into the capital you need two great runes, which I guess is two from Godrick, Rennala, Radahn, Rykard and Mohg, as I think the others are locked behind the capital. Even though you have to beat Margit to get to Godrick, I’m guessing that’s still easier than any of the other options.

So I guess the essential path through the game that’s quickest would be Margit, Godrick, Rennala, Draconic Tree Sentinel, Godfrey, Morgott, Fire Giant, Godskin Duo, Maliketh, Gideon, Godfrey Again, Final Boss?

Does this game still top out at NG+6?

Genuinely feel at a loose end now this is ‘done’

Have a few minor dungeons to mop up but that’s it.

Then tempted by either NG+ or NG a melee build. But…it’s such a immense undertaking and I’m worried I won’t like it without sense of exploration/discovery.(plus how do you access the inevitable dlc)

Maybe I’ll just horizon…
