I've been trying to work out how to get on the plateau on the large South Western peninsular for absolutely bloody ages. When I finally work it out or end up there via other means it's going to be FRICKIN' SWEET.

The one right next to Stormveil? With what looks like a big statue and a church on it? more an island than a plateau? I haven't managed to get there yet either, if that's the one you mean ... can someone point me in the right direction please as it's annoying me!

I just remembered that yesterday  I also found my way into the deep gorge in Caleid that I’d be wanting to get into for a while but left after seeing a huge lad with wings at the end. Mostly because he started firing huge blue bots at me to be fair so I need to add that to my ever increasing mental list of things to follow up on later.

Played this loads over the weekend, got seduced by the Sword of Night and Flame and destroyed a few bosses with it. I do love how you can break this game if you really want to, I hope they don't overly nerf anything, but there are some standout OP weapons and arts.

I'm really struggling with armour - I'm pretty tooled up, although don't have the necessary stats to wield some of the ace weapons I've found my +10 longsword is doing the business mainly, combined with a cheeky staff I found in the peninsula that doesn't need you to be clever to use.

Any tips on finding some decent armour?

I feel the same way about the area of the map around or above Albinauric Village. It all looks like it should be accessible, but try as I might I can't reach it all.

Can anyone recommend some decent Let's Plays? I've tried Fighting Cowboy but he is infuriatingly impatient and unobservant, and much more focussed on weapon stats/damage etc than paying attention as he explores. Limmy is fun, but one day it's Elden Ring then the next it's fucking Rust for 3 hours, then a rant about some beef he has in Rust for an hour with Elden Ring on in the background.

Something lovely like the original Kay Plays please!

Depends what you mean by decent. I had a load of flimsy robes on me for ages which were useless until I found an area that was driving me "mad", and then I couldn't get them on fast enough.

In terms of armour, I often just take everything off and prioritize stats for that particular area (more immunity when in poison cavern, more poise when dealing with knights, etc.). I do have a soft spot for the Carian Knight Armor though.

I haven’t got up there, and have spent ages doing so, so looked it up…

Spoiler

It’s part of an NPC questline.

So although it’s accessible, given the prerequisite, I don’t think I’m getting up there.

Exactly. Fashion Souls until you're knee deep in poison goo.

If you're feeling squishy you need to up your VIT stat, armour doesn't have a huge impact. If you want some of the best pure defense swag in the game though, you can get it after the Caelid main story boss from the Roundtable.

You've been there already. Right at the beginning! There's a place in the lakes called The Three Belfries which may be of help.

I looked up what the armour values mean. It's a straight percentage reduction of damage. The game calculates the damage, then reduces it by the armour value percentage.

So it's not insignificant. Total up all your heavy armour and you'll probably get maybe a 30% reduction, early game at least. However the difference from medium armour is only going to be maybe 10%. There are other benefits like poise.

You'll need both. I've never upped health much since my first DS run. But I've had to here. Too many one shots post the Academy. However knight still needs high END and you can sacrifice some health for it.

 - I spent a good chunk of last evening exploring that whole side of the lakes and had the exact same frustration!

Finally took down the Academy boss yesterday after a few hours of attempts! Pretty brutal especially with the annoying run-up/first phase! I'll write up my latest adventures later on.

Video in spoilers, I show player stats and equipment after the run.

Spoiler

Winning run here, you can click further back if you want to see me dying :P

OK, for those wondering how you get there on your map, as it looks like you are underneath it. this place.

Then you need to follow an npc quest line, specifically this one - https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Ranni+the+Witch

it is quite long and realistically, you will want to follow the guide to ensure you do it in order to get to the top.

Yeah, I've apparently totally fucked that quest. One for a 2nd playthrough I guess!

Query - I'm a Dex/ int build and having a great time, but still using the sword uchigatana. Is it worth continuing to upgrade this or wait for another? Only just found some smithing stones 3, already have 4 and 5 so can probably level it quite a bit...

You will LOVE the Moonveil when you find it.

Generally you can keep weapons throughout the game with no issue, and get enough upgrade materials to have a few up to speed or near enough.

So I’ve finally contracted covid as of yesterday. Off sick today, so thinking maybe get some cheeky hours in…

Turns out actual Covid renders gaming a pretty unpleasant experience. What a waste of good sick day time.

No, I got up there and I've not done that quest line.

...how?

as it appears the only way there, is via a lift, that you need a ring to get to...from the quest?

I was confusing it it with somewhere else!

Ha ha, makes sense now. The other day someone asked how to get up there and @robdood was all like "you can climb up there, that's what I did." Yesterday I looked at the giant cliff and thought well, I'll give it a go! I failed to climb it.
