Im almost done :(

One optional boss left to find and then its the final stretch to do

Tomorrow I play hunt the dragon lord.

Got all the ashes, weapons, talisman and sorceries trophies out of the way now

Level 150 and currently carrying close to 1 million runes.  Really not sure if I should just keep on levelling up

Depends if you want to PvP/coop a lot with your current character. They'll be level restrictions in the matching algorithm, not sure what they are currently but I'm sure the community will work it out soon. Otherwise fill your boots!

I have Thops the second Glintstone Key I found and sent him on his way to RL, but I don't expect he's going to fit in very well there...

Is there a way to find him again easily, or is he buried deep in the academy somewhere?

Edit: Nevermind - found him.

Spoiler

:(

I have the greatsword and am 2 levels away from being able to dual-wield it.

I hope for great things tbh but I cannot stress enough how good that jumping L1/LR  attack is with both swords.  Does nice damage and one shots a lot of standard enemies.

Since we're talking swords, I absolutely battered Godrick on my second attempt today - after Margit I found dodging 'Ricks moveset easier tbh, but it helped a lot that I had put Impaling Thrust on my Lordsworns Greatsword+6(?) for massive damage. You can keep your bloody slashes, the best thing about this is that it takes the main thing this sword loses out on compared to a claymore (the thrust attack) and amplifies it a bunch, so I now have a pretty good all around moveset. Really helped in allowing me to stay well clear of danger and then quickly close in for a bit hit or two.

Otherwise spent  most of the session chilling and mapping out the Lakes. Got all the map fragments and presumably most gracepoints, and am now just visiting a few points of interest. Ditto whoever above was asking about the plateau above the village overhang, I spent ages going back and forth around the cliffs looking for a route up, to the point where I was being reminded of climbing trips to Wales ('bloody typical if you finally found your crag and then it started raining'....so then of course it immediately starts raining ingame a moment later!) Found plenty of other things of course, including the trolliest catacomb of all time.

Also had my first meeting with

Spoiler

The two fingers. Yeah, no thanks. I'm burning this place to the fucking ground.

Decided to have my first proper explore of the Lakes tonight. It's a weird feeling, almost like I've reverted to playing a new game again with such an unfamiliar location. I have no idea where to explore first, but certainly not in a "I'm stuck!" kind of way

Found comfort in a cave, made easier with my newly purchased lantern. Giving me linear progression again gave focus, which became the rest of my session tonight,  as I clear away yet another boss.(and losing a lot of runes along the way).

I'm not sure how long I can keep playing this for, with life constantly getting in the way, but every time I shove on the Xbox to play this it feels like a real treat.

If you want to know...

  Reveal hidden contents

You have to beat Radahn before you can access that area.

In typical Souls fashion I'm not sure this is strictly true now. When I just visited...

Spoiler

Ranni's Rise I noticed that the northern-most tower was open (it was definitely sealed earlier) and there's a portal which takes you to the upper part of Ainsel River. Whether this is accessible before defeating Radahn I don't know, but I suspect you have to move Ranni's quest along somehow. The trouble is I think you need an item from upper Ainsel River to do that, so yeah, I have no idea...

Oh, that Seluvis dude appears to have expired waiting for me to give a potion to Nepheli (god knows where she is!) I can't follow the NPC quests at all.

After 70 hours on my strength build, I thought I’d try out a new character just to try a magic heavy Astrologer.

The game is just as insanely captivating going right back to the start again. If not more so than the first time through. A couple of hours just flew by as I’ve explored Limgrave, and added a few levels, cleared a few starting areas, picked up the various tools, and headed up to Stormveil.

Tough as it was to stop, I’m leaving it there and returning to my main build, as absolutely loads left to do there.

But I’d worried a second time through those early hours and areas would be boring, yet I’m already literally excited as fuck to do it all again, trying new things, using a new way to play, as soon as I finish my sword and board play-through.

This game really is on a whole other level to anything ever made before. If I was a dev in a remotely similar genre I’d be devastated. Like Salieri subjected to the works of Mozart. Just pack it up and go home, you’re done. 😄

 The Academy boss

Spoiler

Got to Rennala last night.

First go: "ah, it's one of these bosses'. Run around, figure it out, get killed by bookcase-destroying projectiles of doom. Nearly got her down though.

Second go: Run around like a madman assassinating crawling girls, dodging books and hiding behind pillars to avoid the projectiles. It takes 3 phases of her forcefield but I finally get her. Nice to have an easier boss, a nice puzzley type one just like other Souls games.

Cutscene starts playing, omnious black smoke comes out and a woman appears muttering about stuff. Uhoh. Please god, no!

The new moon queen one-shots me in 2 seconds with her laser cannon of death as I try to run away. I start laughing. The next attempt goes exactly the same, take a while to kill the first boss and then get vaporised instantly by the next one.

You bloody bastards, From!

Ok so if as it appears there's not a lot being told to me as a tarnished and I have occasionally murdered some innocent creatures or people.

Then why is Caelid so terrifying.

I really do need to dig into the lore I think. Cos it's clear this world we are exploring is fucked up.

This game really is all-consuming isn't it? When I'm not playing it I'm constantly thinking where I can go next, what I might have missed, what I can upgrade or change, or when I can play it again.

Heck, even when I AM playing it I'm thinking about when I get to play it again! 🤣

I'm also wondering how on earth I go to the next game once this is complete - it'll have to be something very special indeed. 🙂

Conscious that I was fast approaching the endgame, having arrived in

Spoiler

Crumbling Faram Azula

I decided to not press ahead and instead go exploring to mop up stuff I’d not yet done.

I returned to Mt. Gelmir

Spoiler

Explored Fort Laiedd and got a sweet red fire Warhammer

I then went back to the capital

Spoiler

And found areas I’d not seen first time round, such as the church (grabbing Lionel’s fatty suit) and the graveyard. I then went exploring in the sewers and found a whole new area, the subterranean shunning grounds! Got killed falling off something and decided to tackle it fresh tomorrow, instead.

Mopping up a lot tonight

Spoiler

Hunted Deathbirds

Killed the Dragonkin

Duplicated Rennala's Soul

Found the Greatsword

Found the matching piece for the lift key

Cured a girl of Scarlet Rot

Got to the top of the manner

Expected girl not there for Rogier. From questline jank lives

A lot of that was because I simply do not like being in Caelid. It's a horribly oppressive area.

Stay safe people

If you’re familiar with Dark Souls hacker Malcolm Reynolds, then you can probably guess what’s happening. For the uninitiated, Reynolds is a longtime hacker of FromSoft games who caused myriad problems for Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls Remastered players some years ago. In both cases, he modified the game’s code to softban people by giving them invalid items and status effects. Well, he’s up to the same antics in Elden Ring, invading people’s worlds and giving them items they’d be better off without before killing them.

If you ever want a good laugh just head to a cliff edge or beach and watch the bloodstains. It's had me proper laughing out loud watching people just plop off to their doom, usually on the horse with too much momentum, and often with some of panic spin in mid-air as they realise what's happening

Killed Smaug or whatever his name was. Had a quick peek in the academy but not done much, had a poke around other areas instead.

Spoiler

Found Pope Tortoise and immediately regretted all the murdering of shell-bros I'd done.

Nearly got assassinated by Sean Beans bodyguard.

Also found another well, full of giant bastard fuckoff ants. Gbfoants.

And Lt Dan got no legs.

Also is it just me or does the giant yellow transparent erdtree move depending on where you are?

Oh, and +1 whoever said the map is outdated from before the 'shattering'. I found an entire road that seems to have dropped into the ocean.

I understand that, but can you point me how to attach spells to the staff?. I thought it was at the bonfire but I can't it to work. For example the spell to illuminate an area with this blue light is something I should be able to attach.

You have to Memorise Spells at a Grace. These will be assigned to DPad Up. You then have to have a staff equipped to use them in the same way you would use a weapon. Can be L or R handed. For Incantations (Faith) you need to use a Seal in the same way

I keep getting invaded regularly. Have I done something wrong or just been very bad? World tendencies?

Saying that, one player invaded and dropped a humongous dragon sword for me then left so not all that bad!

Oh, you’re on about the Grafted one? I thought just the Lordsworn. Yeah, I’ve not got the strength to wield that cunt yet

No, there’s a colossal sword just called “greatsword”. Requires 31 strength to 1 hand.

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Greatsword

You can’t change the ash on the grafted one.

Also, don’t forget the strength requirements is what you need to use it with one hand, you can use it earlier if you two hand it.

Also there are some Wondrous Physick ingredients that raise your stats and enable you to wield things you wouldn’t usually be able to - you’ll see the red cross by the weapon disappear after you drink.

Managed to get to Altus yesterday. Found a catacombs - boss battered me. Found a cave - boss battered me. Found a path - boss battered me. Need to jump on my horse and Suicide run the place to open up the map points.

One strange quirk was that I changed my summon from jellyfish to Lucaria Soldiers and it just stopped working. Need to look into that later.

You might not have enough FP to cast the soldiers.
