At waypoint ruins a message said to look up, and a kind ghostly soul was pointing up. Lo and behold there’s an item on a wall. I tried for about 10 minutes jumping off the main structure onto the wall to collect it but couldn’t do it. Anyone know what it is?

Not sure sorry! However, I’ve noticed all the “Two Fingers but hole” and “Fort Knight” stuff has dropped off completely. Maybe a lot of those folk stopped playing at a certain point? The messages that are now popping up are often really good and pointing out worthwhile stuff. Makes the game loads better and works brilliantly!

There’s so many welsh accents in the game.

Spirit Tuner is not a Welsh accent btw.

Rennala is 100% one.

This hill I am dying on, cos if it's the same actor, I ain't accepting she's using a Welsh accent as the other character.

Bye.

Don’t think I’ve met/seen patches, what’s his story?

You've never played any other From game I see? He is in every souls game and also in Bloodborne. He's a real nice guy, a proper gentleman. 🙂

Nice to know I'm playing the game on the worst possible system (and on an ancient 720p screen!) 🤣

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2022-elden-ring-the-last-gen-analysis-can-the-older-consoles-still-cut-it

Feel my pain!

From that article:

Quote

In fact, one of the worst parts is the state of enemy animations. Even at the near-to-mid range, you'll see enemies run at a unique frame-rate - much lower than the rest of gameplay - until they move within attacking range.

That explains something I've noticed in every Souls game since Scholar of the First Sin on PS4 (the first 60fps console Souls game, I think): Enemies occasionally moving in a weird, jerky fashion when they're off in the distance. So it sounds like it's a performance-saving trick, where they don't actually move at full speed until they are at attacking range, according to that article. Always wondered what that was all about!

I played Dark Souls 1 & 3 but he doesn’t ring a bell. Should I be finding him in this one?

If you explore you'll surely bump into him. I can give you a clue

Spoiler

There's a cave near to where the big dragon is right near the starting area

I'm  surprised you don't remember him, in the first one he's in the pitch black place and in 3 he pretends to be siegward (onion knight)

And you thought me missing an NPC in this was bad! 😂

The Divine Tower is very original Tomb Raider feeling. FROM’s take on TR could be all kinds of awesome.

Funnily enough I think I ran afoul of Patches (again) earlier. :D

I've been clearing out godricks castle, and have gotten as far as the man himself. Was definitely going fairly well, though I suspect the man himself is gonna take some work. Got him down to half health on the first try (with summon), but can see that phase change being a bit of a hard stop.

The level itself though is....intricate. Peak From stuff. I've lost track of the amount of times the divergent paths have crossed over on each other, and I suspect by the time I'm done the whole lot will link up like a spidersweb. Hope so as I've had to bypass a couple of locked areas I cant access yet.

I’m kind of not sure where to go now. I’ve killed the academy boss. There doesn’t seem to anywhere much to explore in the manor just north of them. I’ve been fairly all over the place but i don’t really know what to do.

Another productive evening - killed Magrat. I massively regret using the Jellyfish, though. Made it far, far too easy and I think I basically spoiled the fight for myself.

Your penance is helping people. Put your sign down and do 10 holy Margits.

I wondered where you where!

I dared not go into this thread for fear of spoilers because I only started the game like 5 days ago! I wasn't planning on buying it until after finishing Cyberpunk and Elex II but that plan only lasted for a week. Since then Elden Ring has completely taken over. What a game.

I rolled credits on this this evening as well, after doing a bunch of prep for NG+ taking me to 90 hours. It's funny, after MBoM I just could not muster any respect for any boss afterwards, so did the final few areas just blindly charging in and actually getting away with it for the most part! Loved the looks of the last few though, some very cool stuff.

I thought I'd been pretty thorough in my exploration, and even spent some time mopping up in areas I'd suspected I'd missed something, but there were still two to three caves, catacombs or tunnels I missed in each region. Even in fucking Limgrave which I swear I went over with a fine-toothed comb! The amount of STUFF in this game is just absurd.

Anyway, onward to NG+, where I'm really looking forward to doing some of the character quests I fucked up. I'm not super eager to respec right now, but I've definitely gathered a LOT of fun toys for that STR/FTH build I was intending to go with when I started the game... Maybe NG++?

Glad you’re enjoying it. I’ve put a similar amount of hours in as you and it’s well and truly got its claws into me. Literally on a lot of occasions! Everything else is going to have to wait.

I keep having a pop at the Tree Sentinel from the start, and I still can't finish him off.  The big problem I have with trying to fight on horseback is that I keep jumping off.  I get tense during a fight and end up pressing the joystick in by accident and jumping off the horse when I don't want to.

Aye, that's the one. They even pronounce it correctly: bl-eye-th.

One of the vendors in Dark Souls says "aye siwmae" (sp?) when you talk to him, which I believe is Welsh?

I went off exploring and ended up at Caelid. Then did loads of other stuff before even getting Torrent. From what it says on Google the NPC is only there at night. Swear I didn’t even see a day/night cycle till I came back out of completing Sofia Well.

Have now equipped the Summon. The icon pops up, but the summon has a line through it. I try and use it and the character just grabs at their back, like there’s something not equipped. What do I still need to do?

Well that’s one way to do it!

I did the same, to the point where I switched R and L stick over. So left is now target (fewer problems but still not perfect if you press it in), and crouch is right trigger. It feels a lot more natural like this as well.

Unless

Spoiler

Godskin Apostle

is an outlier I seem to have screwed my damage output with a respec that barely altered my str. Rock Sling and Gravity Well seemed to be doing beefy damage to some minor overworld enemies (it was an int/fai-oriented respec, so that I could use more spells) but they barely scrape him. I'm using the same +15 Morning Star as before, so I wasn't expecting much of a drop, but I'm getting scared now. I was battering him down to 10% health in no time before, whereas now I can only shave off about 30% with a similar number of hits - gulp!

I don't have another Larval Tear, either... :(
