Has anyone down Carian Study Hall?

Spoiler

I did the staggered fight up the stairs against the invader - which was cool, and then explored the Rafters.

But felt like I was missing something and the area seemed "bigger"/"more important" than I managed>

Finally I’ve caught up with this thread. I’ve been playing this since last saturday and already clocked 26 hours. After hitting a brick wall with Margit on my first day, I’ve been holding off doing Stormveil castle until today. It turned out that being lvl 50 in Stormveil was a tad OP, I did it all dying just a couple of times (and none of those were on the end of castle boss).
Overall I’ve been enjoying this game a lot, I’ve not been this engrossed by a game since BotW and if it continues to awe me like it has so far I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up my favourite game ever.

Anyone else got a hoarding problem? I'm level 46 and my axe is +1 and my staff +5. I have plenty of smithing stones. I'm just keeping them back for a more suitable weapon but given I am almost level 50 and my str and dex are lev 12 each lol I should stop kidding myself and just bump it or a more basic sword up. It's honestly not held me back through. Breaking enemy armour with R2 moves has meant its not been much of an issue.

One of the guys in the hub. He doesn’t sound like Sean Bean other than having a gruff Yorkshire accent.

I’ve been marvelling at all the Welsh accents on display and then the randomly Brummie Roderika.

What? I haven't heard a single Welsh accent yet? Where too and who specifically?

You clearly aren’t playing a melee character. I ducking hated that fight

I don’t think there’s anything else there - or at least, not yet?

Snap!  Like shotgun shells in Resi games - "ooh, shouldn't use that, might need it later".

Backstabbing is such a joy in this, purely because the enemies no longer instantly snap into the backstab animation. I can't remember if they already cleared that up in Dark Souls 3, but in this it is particuarly chef's kiss when you backstab somebody who was sitting down.

it's a shame you can't put the boot in as quickly when they are on the ground (at least compared to Demons), letting them get back to their feet is far too sporting

An additional spell memory slot.

Fuck that then, I’ve not used a spell yet.

@Hexx and @Broker, a pal did Radahn last night:

Supposedly cold absolutely wrecks him. My friend put the Hoarfrost Stomp Ash on which gave his regular attacks cold buildup, but I suppose you could use a grease/resin instead.

And Broker, while we're here, that Tree Sentinel:

I assume you mean the Draconic one, outside the capital? Stay on horseback, don't lock on and just stick to the horse's butt as much as possible, making sure you've always got enough stamina to dash away if you need to. I did it third time somehow. I think if you stay close to him he doesn't do the one-shot lightning attack.

If your horse dies, as mine did when the boss was on about 20%, don't resummon, just try and finish the fight on foot. I don't recommend trying to co-op it because you need the horse, and from my brief attempt to do it, it seems it's a popular invasion spot.

Thanks, I’ll try both those things tonight :)

I'm nearly level 50 and Crucible Knight is still a total ballache. I can get to the second phase fairly reliably now at least. Progress!

I do like how you can't use summon ashes in some boss fights to be honest, it's easy to use them as a crutch when they're really leveled up and can do half the fight for you.

There's defo a few welshies in there, not super strong accents but I can hear it.  The blue lady who gives you the summoning bell thing is defo welsh, man!

I don't want to spoil anything, but there's 50% more to do 😉

I think Renna (who gives you the spirit bell) is voiced by Aimee-Ffion Edwards, and she's a bit Welsh.

Ah that wee small Welsh actress from the Detectorists?

I have a new talk option with her to check still,  so I'll take a closer listen tonight.

Did a bit myself this morning before heading out.

Tree Sentinel fell easily tbh. Once you understand and are a bit better at Horse combat it was pretty easy.

Explored a Catacomb to the east and it was a very tense one but got through it and to the mini boss.

Two Cat statues and I died.  Luckily with hardly any runes. So think I'll come back here when I've done some more levelling.

Your theory is incorrect 😀

I actually have no clue about the lift but the island across the way from the castle has nothing to do with it.

Intriguing! Without saying too much, do I need to explore the castle more to find a way down, or do I access it from outside the castle?

Spoiler

I honestly don't know what the lift is for, I just know it 100% has nothing to do with the island across from the castle.

Don't worry about the island for now, it's optional but you can't get to it from inside the castle.

Yeah, I think I said something in an earlier post but Tree Sentinel and the big dragon by the lake being placed right at the start of the game are definitely FROM teaching people that the horse is very handy, even essential.

Both those bosses seem very hard, near impossible, on foot but on horseback they are a breeze, especially Tree Sentinel as the majority of his attacks were avoidable by simply jumping the horse when up close and whacking him. It's subtle but smart teaching of the new systems FROM introduced.

You mean the wooden lift in the rampart tower by the grace site?

Spoiler

Both!

For the answer

Spoiler

Go outside to ramparts past birds and look to left when there’s a ‘platform’. You drop down there

Don’t get too excited though

There is a massive spiral staircase out of reach up on the ceiling - There must be a way to get it down. Also from the outside you can see that there's a bridge connected to the top of the study hall building leading to a massive tower. So I am pretty sure there is a way to progress past the rafters area.

I've been trying to farm for an imp axe thing for my bleed/arcane build.  My main file has about 5 of them.  Can I get one to drop?  Even with silver chicken feet?  Can I fuck.

I got their hat though!! :D

I'm not sure who does the voice, but the Crestfallen Warrior actor is in this, and he sounds a lot more Welsh this time.  I hope he's Welsh or I'm gonna look silly.  Sounds like my nan used to, proper soft valleys accent.

Thanks! I thought I’d cleared the underground but I guess I missed a bit.

I’ve counted wrong I think, probably should have said the seventh area.

I’d be interested to see your map. That spoilered area isn’t late game though. I’ve found 9 or 10 warp chests, and the one that took me furthest trapped me in an area you couldn’t get out of, just letting me look at that place, as opposed to the ones that take you somewhere you can actually explore. And that distant location it took me to definitely isn’t the final area or anything.

According to the stuff on YouTube and a few guide websites I looked at when arriving there,  it’s classed as a “late game/end game, high level area”. All the standard enemies are Dragons, so if it’s not late game then fuck knows what you’ll be fighting by the end! 😂

Just checked and I’ve actually opened all of the open world map and been everywhere now. Done that using a base character, with base weapons, no trouble at all. Also completed some of the lift stuff too. It’s really cool that it gives you the freedom to just go off and explore.
