Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

By the time I was done with Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula, I was almost level 40 with decent gear. Nothing stood in my way. So yeah, perhaps I got a bit complacent. Stopped using a shield, two handed my great sword. No big deal.

Got fucking minced by some nobody guard in a camp far north a while later. Knocked me off my horse than gave me a quick flurry whilst I was lying on the floor. My 20 vigor worth of health just evaporated.

Never get complacent in this game, guys

This is quite good but definitely too hard. Just feels like you keep dying until you level up enough to beat someone. Feels cheap and I doubt I’ll bother finishing the game which is a shame.

Also don’t think open world really works that well here, the game improves massively once you are inside the mines or wherever.

Serious question though.

Where can I get a bow? Feel free to reply in spoilers

Spoiler

Go look along the beach west of the starting merchant - there’s a friend there that will sell you one.

During a late lunch-excursion I found a cool demi-human boss thing in a ruin that netted me a sweet wand for casting, that only needs 10 int!! Yay! :D

Jack of all trades build is going well!

Yeah I know the one you mean. Died very quick for how fierce it looked!

I seem to be doing something similar, build wise. Usually in From games I just go vigor and strength but in this one I’m

branching out a bit. Might be too difficult to maintain later as level up costs rise exponentially, but for now I have

21 strength

20 vigor

20 endurance

17 dexterity

12 int

10 mind

10 faith

Lol it’s tough but it’s not too hard, it’s definitely not “cheap” and you don’t need to level up to beat things (although it does make it easier).

@cassidy agree with this bloody

Spoiler

Bomb barrel bird bastards as I’ve affectionately named them. Sometimes I can nail it without taking a scratch, sometimes they absolutely wreck me. Utter bastards.

Might just try running back inside and see if I can pick them off more easily

A trick I think they missed: it would look insanely cool for fashion reasons if all six armaments slots were visible on your character's body at once.  Imagine how awesome you'd look with a Claymore on your back, uchigatana at your hip, bow over shoulder, etc.  All at once.  It would be amazing.

I bet this guy thinks throws in 1v1 fighting games are cheap too.

If anything it's the easiest souls-related game I've played. The basic enemies aren't nearly as much of a threat as in the Dark Souls games unless they mob you and summons etc help out massively on some of the harder bits. So far the difficulty is perfect for me as someone who threw in the towel on Sekiro for example.

So, just killed Margit. On my first attempt.

Obviously that's because I'm a super swag master of skill, style and enormous sexual potency.

Also, it might have something to do with the fact I'm level 33, with 20 points each of vigor, mind and strength, along with a Lordsworn's Heavy Greatsword +4.

Oh, and a summon called Banished Knight Oleg. Holy shit. It's the first time I've tried using him because I've only just levelled Mind enough (takes 100 FP to summon him). He ripped Margit to pieces! I just chipped in with an occasional hit and critical hit when he got staggered. I've unlocked easy mode, apparently.

I didn't realise summons were linked to Mind.  This should help me! I usually pick ones which look martial but some I think are in the equivalent of the sun bro guild which also helps.

So many things mentioned here I haven't encountered so far, and I thought I had done a fair bit of exploring.  Not used the map well admittedly, since I couldn't find the mine.

My strength boi status:

20 Strength

20 Vigor

19 Endurance

13 Dexterity

10 Mind

9 Int

9 Faith

7 Arcane

It's basically how my characters in the other games went. I want to hit things, and survive more hits. :D

E: I had like 150k runes from farming in my last session so Vigor and Endurance have gone up to 25 with Strength up to 26...

The battlemage class I'm rolling is so much fun. Spells in left hand, nice rapier in the right to stick em with the pointy end when needed.

Level int, Dex and mind mostly for that

But what about the satisfying chonk of hitting someone with a guard counter?

I am tempted to roll up a astrologer for a little play mind you. It’s just it’s got such a nice meaty feel to hitting someone with a big heavy weapon.

I'm enjoying my class so far, with the sword stabby weapons. It's a Dex Str hybrid right now but because I'm a Confessor I have the miracles device in my left hand. This is ideal because you don't need to cast miracles often with the ones I have, freeing up the left hand for 2 handed moves like the weapon skills. I'm planning to try out rappers once I get the stats and maybe dabble in longswords as well. There are daggers too but I've always been terrible at partying so that might be a lost cause. And the claws are fun for certain types of enemies you can get close to, just rip into them with combos. Not figured out how to use the dash to get backstage yet though.

Getting pretty sick of these ghost bull guys and their arrows. Could go somewhere else of course but there’s just…one…more…torch!

I rode around like a madman on torrent  for most of that area :)

The reward you get at the end is

Spoiler

Amazing

Don't know if this is common knowledge, but I had to turn the game off yesterday after dying to old G, so did it as soon as I died. Straight off. When I turned it back on I was outside the arena with 0 health, died again, but now all my runes were outside to be easily picked up. Given the lack of homeward bones this is one way to recover them.
