That took me a surprising number of goes for a first proper boss. I didn't use summons or spirits, but still, he was markedly tougher than anything I've encountered so far and I've been playing for 15 hours. Those quick draw dagger attacks when you think he's at the end of a combo were a bugger. I can't remember a tougher first cutscene-introduced boss in a From game. Even Gascoigne was easier.

Sounds like you missed an item. The fight shouldn't be that hard if you've explored thoroughly. Gascoigne is a good reference.

I still won't be reading any of this thread, but just saw the new subtitle. WTF, who is saying that?

I played a wee bit of DS1 Remaster on Xbox One X and that looks like a 360 game. ER looks stunning, to me it’s a much prettier game than Halo Infinite which is the last recent open world game I played.
Let’s not forget that Halo Infinite launched with performance issues on PC, as did Forza Horizon 5. It took a fair bit of patching to get FH5’s frame pacing issue sorted, while Halo Infinite’s performance was still sub-standard when I completed it a couple of weeks ago.

Lol, @Broker I think you should change the thread title again. Some people's sarcasm detectors are clearly malfunctioning. ;)

Can anyone help me with something? I appear to have a "thing" to summon a Jellyfish, and I bought one to summon some wolves, but I can't use them. I went back and followed the "main beginner" path, but still feel I missed an important tutorial bit that covers this ... what do I do?

Rest at the church of Elleh.

I feel like the jellyfish is cheating a bit. I'm running away from a bosses waiting for their HP to tick down.

I found that thing but never used it, ha. Typical. Does it make this fight significantly easier, or is it just a temporary thing, like the music box against Gascoigne?

I just spend a 90 minute work meeting playing Elden Ring on mute in the background, just galloping round the map, only stopping at a few grace sites and if I saw a shop.  Hoovered up some loot on the way too! OMG THE SIGHTS ❤️

An Xbox 360 game, just now:

Managed to grab some excellent weapons by accident and found another blacksmith!  Neat :D

I want to pause real life so bad.  :(

With the item, NPC summon and levelled up wolves, a complete walkover.

In my notes I posted earlier that was one of my key points: always assume he hasn’t finished a combo. There are so many times when you think he’s done and then you get shanked.

True, but there’s the caveat:

Spoiler

It stops working after the first phase. Which you’ve probably got down by now.

Castle Morne post side quest question:

Spoiler

Ok so I gave the letter to the girls father in the castle and was going to head back to her to see what she said. For some reason I accidentally attacked him with R1, he grumbled a bit so I gave him another swing and he retaliated. He is now dead but dropped a sweet +12 weapon (halberd iirc). Went back to the daughter and she was dead (the text said ‘she’s dead’ which made me laugh out loud). Presumably if you didn’t kill the father she gives you a reward, what was it?

@Thor this isn't quite right, I think what you have to do is warp there when it is night time.  All will become clear if you do it, an NPC will appear.

Ah. Well, I didn't use any of that. Whoops. I did wonder why he was so tough. On the run where I finally got him I was able to poison him with my poison sword spell and staggered him for another critical hit, but the way he punishes you for healing by throwing the daggers at you is straight out of Sekiro.

Hopefully I'll find the next boss a bit easier.

Spoiler

Nope, she dies either way. When you go back there after finishing Morne, her father is knelt beside her body, crying, swearing vengeance on whoever did it. If you look at the lore surrounding the castle, it’s all about revenge and vengeance, so this just continues that cycle

Ooooooooh, thanks!  Had light of graces close to a few so easy to pick up.

No problem.

For anyone else, perhaps we should sticky this somehow, but this is how you find map pieces:

You can't always see it when entering a new unmapped zone, but ride around for a bit and you'll find it eventually.  :)

Nope she's dead whatever happens and the father vows revenge.

I presume the questline will continued

Spoiler

It's called Magrit's Fetish, or something like that. I couldn't quite remember where I found it, but it's near Stormhill, IIRC, in one of the dungeons.

Also, I love how From games expand your vocabulary. I've already had to look up the original (non-sexual) meaning of 'Fetish', and also 'Badalchin' and 'Recusant'.

Wonderful.

Is there a way to dual weild with vagabond? I have a few different weapons and not sure how to assign to left hand. I only seem to be able to use a shield.

Anyone can dual wield, you have to put a weapon of the same class (sword, axe, polearm) in each hand, then press the two-handing input (Y + L1/R1).

Your L1 attacks will then be fancy pants combos.

How do you put a weapon in each hand?

Yeah, I probably chose 'pass time'. It was a while back.

After risking life and limb slogging through the castle, I realised you can...

Spoiler

just travel around the side. I honestly can't wait to see what the speedrunners come up with...
