Now we can all get back to discussing all the exciting information we have at our disposal regarding Elden Ring. I am most excited about the downhill-on-shield snowboarding sections, which members of the press who's names escape me have described as a worthy successor to EA's SSX series. Others were disappointed that the action-oriented, stunt-focused high-score gameplay, rather than the expected "Dark Souls of Extreme Sports Games", felt distinctly out of place.

Some possible spoiler leak info and concept art.

Spoiler

The game world is based on the world tree from Norse mythology, and also references something from Celtic mythology.

The gameplay is similar to Dark Souls, but the map is much larger, includes dynamic weather and day/night alternation. Imagine you fight with a Boss from day to night, he said, and the weather changes from sunny to thunderous.

The modeling of enemies is more complex, and there will be cthulu-style enemies similar to bloodborne.

Remember that red hair giant (Look up at sky, it burns)? He was badly wounded in a battle. His faction is characterized by red hair and the use of large weapons. There is also a faction characterized by white hair. The two biggest factions he has known so far seem to have come from the same ancestor, but have split up eventually.

The guy with a lot of hands at the beginning of the 2019 trailer is probably an NPC.

That crestfallen dude will appear again.

Waifu (similar to fire keeper)

Patches may not appear, or not appear in human form (bloodborne spider).

There are characters like Gael and the xanthous king.

The game development stage has been completed in the first half of 2020 and is now in the polishing stage. The game will be released in 2021, he's pretty sure. It's possible to see a new trailer after the Japanese New Year.

I really hope its very different in gameplay style to Souls games.

Or at least more forgiving.

Eww. Open world Dark Souls with a bigger map is my dream. I’m pretty sure at this stage they won’t waste their time bowing to the “it should have an easy mode” crowd. There’s literally thousands of games if you want easy third person combat and a world you can navigate with no effort.

My biggest hope is that From introduce some innovative features, like towers that you can climb to reveal the map and the locations of enemy camps you can take over and the locations of the NPCs who will give you quests.

That's a very nasty thing to say. I'm simply offering my genuine opinion on what I think would be a really fun game mechanism.

And next week the big news is that Ubisoft will be buying From Software...

Tom Clancy's Elden Ring will be an exciting addition to the Ubisoft Family, where the players take on the challenging role of protecting wealthy, powerful people from the legal and moral consequences of their actions. Developed by industry veteran and darling From Software, Elden Ring will have it's basis in their classic, genre defining style - but updating it for 2021 with exciting features as: -

  • Dynamic cover shooting
  • Simplified stealth mechanics which will work on proto-LoS, but it's basically random.
  • Excessive skill trees, enabling you to only really use the fun stuff when it's far too late to matter, or for you to care.

... we've heard player complaints about the inaccessibility of the plot, so now the story will be told (constantly) by NPCs by what we're terming "Magical Codec". Here at Ubisoft we absolutely feel that it's better to tell rather than show.

Sorry but that reads like the exact type of fake list that gets posted by people who know nothing and so just hedge their bets on the safest and most non-comittal things they can think of in a bid to sound convincing.

Dark Souls but bigger! Enemies models are more complex! Patches may or may not be in the game! A guy we've already seen in the trailer may be an NPC! Also has a load of stuff directly equivalent to things from past games!

It's a whole load of nothing, anyone who has ever played a few From games could crap that list out in a few minutes. Fake.

A moment to acknowledge just how incredibly prolific from has been when you think about it. They have had just a spectacular run. Dark souls, bloodborne AND sekiro. They are all clearly made by the same people but the worlds are so interesting and unique. The mechanics are also unique to each franchise. Name another developer with this incredible  legacy of new IP in the ps3 and 4 era. They really can do no wrong in my eyes. Sekiro which I initially did not like ended up being my favourite. Conversely I think George Martin is a tit.
