Dunno if I'm enjoying NG+, everything dies instantly, bosses down in five or so hits, regular enemies just not worth bothering with. It's funny at first but gets old fast. The Tree Sentinel didn't even get close before he was vaporised.

I know it's asking for the moon but it is a shame that items and treasures are identical in NG+, making a lot of them pointless. Perhaps they could have been replaced with heroes runes or even upgraded versions of Talismans or Spirits.

I swapped my Magma Wyrm Sword for the Blasphemous Blade +10 which doesn't even seem fair. The damage output at 60/60 FTH/STR is incredible.

I'll probably leave this and focus on NG.

I was worried  this would be the case, I'm assuming all the graces are reset too so if a buddy asked for your help somewhere you may not have the grace. Definitely start a new character I've had a lot of fun playing the game differently.

I’m on now for about half hour and can put my sign down if you need a hand?

Sorry just saw this! Appreciate the offer anyway. I took the advice and went elsewhere, going to try and level up a bit more before attempting him again.

Thanks very much to @Benny, whose advice in to "How Do I?" thread made all the difference — having an idea of what resistances to boost and going for heavy armour (with corresponding medium encumbrance) meant I was able to defeat Maliketh after only one more death, hurrah!

Only downside: I looked like a right bellend doing it:

So, post-Maliketh statline (well, add two to Arc for my level ups):

Hopefully this'll be enough to see out whatever's left to do!

Nope — I entered it, saw all the platforming it was going to involve, and left.

So, I've now wandered a bit further in the "new" area, got embarrassingly beaten by a gargoyle, then made up for it by steamrolling a smartarse and then a giant pro wrestler on my first go, so that was nice. Funny how wildly the difficulty levels of bosses diverges!

Edit: just headed a bit further and was (literally) smashed into the ground by the next boss, so there we go!

Edit 2: just realised I've had Taker's Cameo since entering the new area. Such optimisation!

Yep. Started a NG and the spirit of the game is intact. To be fair I did make an utter pig of myself at the Albinauric genocide farm and I'm definitely massively overlevelled. I pretty much broke my character for myself. I might see if I can roll this character into NG+++ and beyond without levelling to see how far I need to go before it getds challenging again.

Graces do reset but the map stays visible btw.

Final boss down; Age of the Stars: get!

(images of said final scene below. So, y'know, spoilers)

Genuinely impressed to see just over 10% of people have got that ending — shows how engaging the game is for so many to have got to the end, even before realising that only a subset will have chosen/had access to that ending.

I finished the game over the weekend - and what a game it is, basically a new all-timer - and I got that same ending entirely by accident lol :)

Spoiler

After defeating the boss, I grabbed the Site of Grace, then walked over to the corpse and decided to have a look as some of the messages on the floor before doing anything and I completely accidentally hit the "Summon Ranni" one 😂

Oh no! I did wonder about how easy that might be to do

At least it was a satisfying ending! Not sure I've quite got the will to go a round 2 to see any of the others — may look them up online for a watch, but I think I've sated my interest in the game now. 97 hours is quite excessive, by my standards!

Level 100, I checked but no password set. I’m looking right outside his door but haven’t seen any at all. To be honest I’ve struggled to see any anywhere for a while now.. not sure if it’s a problem my end.

Nope. This is how it is. I’m queuing for last boss now (which is absolute garbage incidentally) and it’s taking upwards of 15 minutes to find two people who last about 15 seconds. Fromsoft matchmaking, netcode etc is a fucking travesty and always has been. They’d be perfect games if they just sorted out their damn multiplayer, performance and camera/lock-on woes. But it’s been years and no sign of even the slightest minuscule improvement to those since Dark Souls PS3. They’ve actually gotten worse I think.

shhh - don't you know that the bad matchmaking is part of the appeal...

or something like that.

I haven't delved into multiplayer options that much but I heard that From's region matchmaking options in some games are things like

1. Japan

2. North America

3. Other

I hope that I've just been misled by hyperbole, but it's still pretty funny.

I guessed the summoning problem was that there are more summoners than summonees, rather than dodgy netcode?

I also found the most success from -

- get summoned, help someone out,

- upon returning to your game, start summoning

More often than not I’d get two people into my game within a couple of tries, maybe a minute or two?   And this was from being under levelled for Nokron bosses, to (probably) over levelled for final boss.

also, had loads more boss wins with the mimic than random clowns

I've had to mire myself in retro game nostalgia to get anywhere near the same gaming hit since (trying the last Tomb Raider was a mistake). The main problem is I could do another play through, but the first time around my 250 hours was spent pretty much scouring every inch of the world, so there's not much left new to discover I would think.

I gave up on fighting the huge bear I found. Keep those runes, I don’t care. Stupid bear.

Instead I found a giant Baba Yaga type of situation which ties in to a game mechanic I haven’t even found yet, one of the big trees and its very angry protector, a cave full of poison(?!), an angry ball holding an NPC hostage, an opera bat, and an accidental portal to… the capital?

Surely that’s a safe location at last.

If this game has a critical path I am pretty sure I am not on it.

Never mind the critical path, just have adventures!

I realised I'd missed something today when a friend, who I knew was way behind me in progress, mentioned going to an area I'd not discovered.  Turns out...

Spoiler

I'd ignored Varre's questline, because it involved invading people, and I'm not bothered about that.  Looked it up and realised I have to invade 3 people and will get access to a completely new area that I could have easily missed.

And you don't even have to fight them. Invade, use the Finger Severer as soon as you spawn. Repeat another twice and done. Go speak to Varre for your "reward". There's still an additional step to do before you can access the area though

I'm sure everyone will be rivetted to know this, but after a night and day's reflection, I've determined that Elden Ring is my 18th favourite game of all time. I'm always a little wary when grading a game so shortly after stopping playing it, but for now that feels right. It's really quite something.

(in case anyone thinks that's meant as faint praise, it isn't. It's the first game to make it into the top 20 since Pillars of Eternity 2, and the fact it scores so high given its genre is astonishing; it's comfortably my favourite open world game (second favourite, depending on your definition, is either Shadow of the Colossus at 37 or Breath of the Wild at 57), and I liked it enough that it displaced my beloved Little Big Adventure 2 (now game number 19 in the list). It even pushed Beyond Good & Evil out of my top 20! Not bad, considering until now the only highest From game in my list was, er, Otogi, in at 132)

Honestly I think I might just keep on exploring and not bothering with fights except when I’m having fun with them. Caelid is a shithole but it’s not a terrible place to zoom about on horseback riding enjoying the weird sights.

You can also get there from a teleporter thingy in a late-game area.
