I've got right into Walkabout recently, are all the DLC courses worth it? There's so many now, it feels like it'd be nice to get a collection.

I can't think of any duffers, I'm very happy to have paid for all of them.

I don't have them all but the ones I have are all brilliant. I've got the Labyrinth one, the Jules Verne 20,000 leagues under the sea course and the Upside Down Town course.

Was just playing it and the bloody space station course looks and sounds ace but can get in the sea as it's so frustrating.

So, is Space Pirate Trainer not available for the quest 2 at all? I can find the demo on the store page, but I can't install it as it as its not supported on the meta quest 2.

The only thing I can find is the Space Pirate Trainer DX two player thing, which looks ace, but is a totally different game...

Space Pirate Trainer DX is the original and the multiplayer mode. It was released as an update.

As for Walkabout, I'd say the most recent two courses, Atlantis and Upside Down, are among the most atmospheric, but the holes are quite boring to me. But, as others have said, I still buy them all day one.

I purchased a secondhand Quest 2 64GB. What essentials should I invest in?

Kinda depends what you're into. For rhythm and music, you've got Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Synth Riders and Rez.

For puzzles you've got The Room, Red Matter 1 & 2, Time Stall, I Expect You To Die, Shadow Point, Fisherman's Tale, Maskmaker.

For shooting, Dead Second, Shooting Arena (on Sidequest), Superhot.

For sports: Walkabout Mini Golf, Eleven Tables Tennis. Dash Dash World is a decent Mario Kart knock-off if your stomach can hack it.

A sequel to the lovely A Fisherman's Tale is due in the next quarter!

I remembered the other day that Meta/Oculus went on an absolute spree of buying up some of the best VR studios around: Camouflaj (Iron Man, Beat Studios (Beat Saber), Ready At Dawn, Sanzaru (Asgard's Wrath), Armature (RE4 port) and a bunch more.

But they mostly all seem to be working on unannounced shit. This would be an excellent time to build some hype around the Meta VR platform with some new reveals, unless they're just trying to hold it all back for a Quest 3 launch.

It's a frustrating space to be in, because Quest 2 has shifted big numbers but feels very neglected —and lacking in polished software. Worse still, smaller devs design a great VR game in 2019, then spend the next 5 years porting it to new platforms as they come out instead of seemingly producing new stuff. Plus, I suspect some of those smalleer studios were a little surprised by their own financial success and have more freedom than they've been used to.

I've received my Quest 2, something I didn't consider when buying a secondhand unit was whether the previous owner was a smoker - oops.

I need to replace the face cushion as it smells - I was looking at this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/KIWI-design-Replacement-Anti-Leakage-Accessories/dp/B08X1DHL23?th=1

The second issue is my glasses don't fit, so I guess I need prescription lenses - any suggestions?

I bought my Quest 2 new, and it came with a 'glasses extender' a bit of plastic, that went between the face cushion and the machine to place it further out, and let me use my glasses without issue. Might be worth checking if it's in the box, or if you can by it and a new face cushion in a multipack or something?

(Also, Resi Evil 4 VR is better than the remake. It's the GOAT version. SPITTING FACTS).

I fitted the extender straight away, I feel like I'm pushing my glasses in with unnecessary force and removing the headset also removes my glasses. I'll give it another shot but I didn't really like that experience.

Ah. Gotcha. For what’s it’s worth that’s totally not the same experience as my use of it. For me they don’t touch anything and my glasses stay on face when removing the headset.

must be the design of the glasses or something. I’ld absolutely look for an alternative if I was in your shoes. Not worth scratching your glasses or headset.

I played a 30 minute trial of Moss, much better experience than PS VR where I completed it before - I can actually see the scrolls now!

The headset is sitting on my forehead, big red mark left from just 30 minutes use.

Is there a big difference in fidelity between PC VR and native Oculus VR?

not in terms of clarity, no. Depending on your PC, sky’s the limit for how detailed and effect-filled it can go. Mostly it’s sims that stretch that, and Alyx. I don’t know if the PC VR version of Moss has much of a boost…

I've Kiwi'd up my Quest, head strap, face cushion and controller grips - initial impressions are very good, big improvement (and it no longer smells of cigarette smoke!).

  • 2 weeks later...

Call of the Sea finally came to the Quest, and I had penty of fun with it for about four hours. Decent story, above average graphics and fun puzzles — plus I always love a tropical setting. Here's a 25% off referral code for anyone who wants to give it a go.

Equally exciting, there's a new Walkabout course this week. That's always a great day.

Another new mini golf course!! I need to get back on this but with my usual golfing buddy @Mystacon having moved to the states we have found it hard to find a time we are both free (and the one time we did my ancient Quest 1 was refusing to do any updates, which I have since solved). I think there will now be three courses I haven't played yet!

I enjoyed Call of the Sea when I played in on the XsX and think it would suit VR well but it's another game I will have to put on the list until the Quest 3 comes out as I see it isn't Quest 1 compatible.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is an improved version of a game that came out in 2005, using the tech of today to make the best game ever into something better still.

Resident Evil 4 VR improves on the game further by taking the technology of the future and using it to make the best immersive experience ever and frankly Re4VR kills your enthusiasm for anything else.  It's that good.

I factory reset my Quest on Monday as it really wasn't working well. Games were taking up to 3 mins to load in (it took 6 to 8 mins to boot it up from switched off) and basically anything to do with the OS took ages. Did a backup in Sidequest and then a restore after setting it up again and it works just like new again, lovely! I had initially thought it was just the OS getting too heavy for the old Quest but that wasn't the case.

Anyway it has got me back into playing it, and it's still a wonderful piece of kit with some great games. I got back into some Beat Saber and today I've been playing a load of Pistol Whip. I haven't played it in a while so had missed all the new updates with styles and challenge modes, just so good. Spent 40 mins playing it earlier and was covered in sweat, quite the squat workout.

Need to get back into The Walking Dead, I was playing it a couple of years ago but then it was summer and became too hot to play it. Then it needed updates and at the time I had too little space on the Quest for the update to install so I never went back to it. Anyway I've cleared down my Quest now and it's got the latest update so will hopefully finish that off before the Quest 3 comes out and I can pick up everything that has not been available on the Q1 that I want.

That is interesting, my QUest 1 is a little sluggish to load as well. Was the sidequest thing easy to do? I have no issue with wiping it and simply redownloading all the content but I assumed my save games would be gone (there is no cloud save for quest is there) so the sidequest thing saves the save games?
