@Shimmyhill, @multi is correct, for Walkabout Mini Golf only one player in a multiplayer lobby needs to own the DLC course for all to be able to play the course. The only caveat is that players who don’t own the DLC can’t collect the balls or do the treasure hunts that appear on the hard versions. However since they are one and done things anyway it’s not a massive issue.

Thanks both - thats really good to hear :)

I have been reading up on stuff so hopefully wont be asking too many n00b questions - seen the straps with batteries built in and assumed they just plugged into the usb c port… wonder if my anger packs work and of course they do, thats a great way to extend the play time even if im not sure it will be played for more than 2+ hours straight!

One last question… I assume you have to buy games on the store but can you get cheaper credit or buy codes elsewhere for games? Few more I want to pickup but its a airy for sale approach as dont want to spend too much early on and end up not playing them!

There are various not-very-good sales, but every so often Oculus/Meta will email you a 30% off code that needs to be used on the store (for any game) within a couple of weeks. The timing of these seems pretty random!

Finally played some Red Matter 2, and it's the best looking native game, for sure. Helps to build a fantastic atmosphere.

I was a little gutted when I found out it didn't have teleporting, as that's always my preferred motion style. Locomotion usually makes me woozy after a while. That said, I've survived it for about two hours in this, which is testament to the game's quality.

That said, I think they probably mitigate any nausea with a powerfully slow movement style. Again, great for atmosphere, but can be frustrating at times.

I've just found

Spoiler

the weapon

and am interested to see where it goes from here. Not sure how much more of it there'll be.

Like the first, it's the transparencies and reflective surfaces that put it above most of the competition, but the story and gameplay are no slouches either.

Finally managed to sort out a 5Ghz wifi access point in the same room as my Quest 1 and ethernet connected PC, so gave Air Link a go.

Blimey. I can't tell the difference from it being wired, it's perfect.

One thing for those having issues connecting - mine refused to see the PC at all whilst NordVPN was connected. It took me an embarrassingly long time to suss that out.

I've got completely thrown with playing PCVR. I have Resident Evil 2 and a supposed VR Mod.  I tried Virtual Desktop last night and I can play the regular 2D flat game on a big screen but that's about it.  The effect is seamless, there's no noticable lag, but in most cases I get the Steam VR screens on my Quest, but the game plays on the PC monitor and steam VR remains on the headset.  I've tried Virtual Desktop and also ALVR.  The only thing I've had work is a Sega retrogame where the menu is in VR.

Having bought Resident Evil 2 twice already, I must confess I have located this PC version on the high seas. Would that be the reason I can play in 2D but the VR patch has no effect?  It's been added to steam as a non steam game, and been added to the steam VR library.  The issue here for me is that I don't want to spend 35 quid on a game I already own on 2 consoles, before I know the PC can handle the VR Mod.  But apart from the Sega Megadrive collection menu screen, I haven't been able to play a PC game in VR other than Google earth and some steam native demos.

Could you tell me how you have done this? I have my router downstairs and my ethernet PC is connected upstairs where I primarily play my quest 2 but don't get a decent enough signal to the router from there.

I also really need a new gfx card capable of decent VR if anyone has one going  😃

In short, I used a Unify wifi access point to allow 5Ghz access to the network in the same room as the quest. I'm sure there are better ways of doing it, but this works for me.

Orange = ethernet

Green = wifi

If you have a BT Smart Hub 2 you can't split the wifi channels.  BY recommend standing close to the hub when you connect your device and as long as it's 5Ghz compatible it should connect to the 5Ghz.  If your PC is in another room you can go into the router settings and see which devices are connected to which wifi type.  If you know your PC is 5Ghz compatible but it keeps connecting to the 2Ghz first, you can ring tech support.  They can remotely turn off the 2Ghz channel on the hub.  Then, depending on what your needs are they can wait 2 minutes while all your devices connect to the 5Ghz then leave it all working, or reactivate the 2Ghz for your older devices.  Anything connected to 5Hhz should not reconnect to 2Ghz when it's reactivated.

Very odd they disabled the split channels option on the smart hub 2 as all the previous BT hubs let you have the two channels separately.

Yes , the guy at BT told me they use the Hub 2 as the centre of their complete home wifi mesh disks and the company didn't want people messing things up by playing around with settings.  He helped me, as all my Google Home stuff, Chromecast etc had all connected to the 2Ghz.  He turned it off, they all instantly reconnected to 5gz. Then he turned it back on and my incompatible laptop connected to the 2gz, with everything else staying where it was.

  • 2 weeks later...

Quick heads up to fellow Questers..

I recently bought a refurbished Quest 2 from a lovely chap on this here forum. No issues with the trade, the headset was in tip top condition, even had the lens covers and cardboard sleeve still on.

The issue is that Meta are effectively shipping bricked refurbs. They all need a firmware update before you can even pair the controllers to the headset or the headset to your phone.

The solution is to side load the latest update, but it needs some faffing about with Android command line tools on a PC. Luckily I'm a techie and it wasn't a problem (apart from it not looking like it's working then things suddenly work...ffs) But for those who aren't, the headset is effectively useless.

I have to say, I've just had a go on the PSVR after using the Oculus for a couple of months.  It's night and day. The PSVR screen isn't as bad as I remember but you immediately notice the lower res screen, the general "not very good, these" Move controllers.  And the wires! My god the wires. They seem to be everywhere.  Room scale stuff seems impossible.  Oculus' wire free setup makes a world of difference.  The Guardian room setup makes a big difference.  The sound is amazing. Oculus kicks PSVRs arse.

But then an hour later I've got back into Blood and Truth, Astrobot, Star Wars Squadrons, Tempest 4000 in cinemascope, Polybius, and my word... It just leaps out, the Rift needs more software support.  Resident Evil 4 is fantastic but now I've completed it there's nothing that really grabs me.  I'm impressed with Table Tennis, Walkabout Golf and a handful of tech demo style stuff...  But I see a lot of these headsets on Facebook Marketplace and they all say they haven't used it in a while and I can see that.  The hardware is amazing, but Meta need to get some more AAA class titles out there quick.
