Lochenvar
Cheers @Garwoofoo, that's really great info. I have seen some lenses on ebay that have magnetic mounts, for easy removal, and I did wonder about getting those. But, I'm like you and have pretty terrible eyesight, so I think it would be better to make sure I'm getting really good lenses. I doubt I'll be passing it around much and, if I did, I'd just have to do without them for the night. I'm used to stumbling around in real life anyway. Chooch
Is the only way to buy games via the Oculus store? I want to get Resi 4 but I also don't want to pay full price for it.
simms
As far as I know you can only buy Oculus games vi their store. Every so often Oculus send a 30% off code, check thru your email to see if you have one in date.
earlymodernsteve
@Chooch Fanatical sell some and very occasionally have Oculus game bundles - more usually it's Steam codes that can be played via Oculus Link - https://www.fanatical.com/en/search?search=vr&drm=oculus I thought Humble Bundle did but it seems to just be Steam codes as far as I can see.
Zathras
So... thought I'd take the plunge with the upcoming price bump. Ordered one from Amazon, which was delivered today, only to find this inside the box:- Spoiler Hadn't told the kids as it was going to be surprise, oh well. Amazon were very apologetic and refunded the money as soon as I told them. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, and was attempted apparently, which was a bit suspicious as I work from home and am pretty sure it wasn't. Also the box was wrapped in clear, not brown tape. 🤨 So anyway here ends my abortive start to VR.
papalazarou
Good to see Argos are not waiting to 1st of august to increase the price of the headsets - already up at the new price

Someone in the warehouse opened the box, nicked the Quest, replaced it with some nappies from another box they'd opened and sealed it back up with their own tape.
multi
Another new course for the fantastic Walkabout Mini Golf Jim Henson's Labyrinth. Looks great, out now I believe l.
papalazarou
upgraded by 64gb quest 2 to a 128gb one today as i was getting tired of having to keep removing games to play others (was planning to do it at the end of august but with meta putting the price up tomorrow went for it today.) Of coarse first game i played was the above walkabout golf and the labyrinth dlc (which you can actually explore the labyrinth by not following the golf coarse route!) you can tell the coarse has been made with love as its packed with so many details from the movie
Fletch
The Labyrinth course is amazing, as @papalazarou says above there are so many cool little touches from the movie. It’s definitely been made with love for the movie. The low poly versions of the characters are great. One of my favourite touches which I’ll put in a spoiler is Spoiler When your ball falls into the bog of eternal stench it continues to stink for the rest of the round which I thought was a wonderful detail. It’s absolutely worth the price of a coffee to download.
the_debaser
Brilliant and only £2.29. That’s exactly how you should do dlc. Let’s hope they keep supporting and improving the game.
the_debaser
That labyrinth course is great, pretty hard though, I got 15 over on my first go. The hole with anti gravity is just weird too.
papalazarou
Yeah it’s going to take a few goes to get good on - but they nailed the feel of the movie with the course layout (pity they didn’t / couldn’t have used the music from the movie)

metallicfrodo
The Labyrinth course is great, lots of lovely little details, including the one where if your ball lands in the swamp it gives off green gas from that point onwards. The changing gravity staircases bit is cool but in practice it's a bit weird that it doesn't affect you (although I can appreciate that this would probably be a nightmare to get right), and means it's quite fiddly trying to get the ball in the hole as you are at completely the wrong angle. For some reason this course suddenly made me realise how much I'd love them to do one based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass.

Simbo
A family friend has just bought a quest 2 and wants to link it to their pc. I got the original cable from Oculus but couldn't recommend it given the price. Is there anything specific I need to look for when buying/ recommending a 3rd party cable? Don't use the cable. I would say use virtual desktop (its about £15 but works fantastic) or at a push use airlink for free. If they are concerned about the battery running out (it should last a couple hours still) then use a external battery.
Valver
Oculus/Meta just released a hand tracking/controller free demo called "First Hand"- taking inspiration from the "First Contact" introductory experience that first appeared on the Rift. Free using the App Lab. https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/5030224183773255/

Plus, I can do it in a different room to the computer, without having some preposterous 18m USB C cable.
AceGrace
Is there a guide somewhere on how to set this up?
schmojo
Install the app from the Oculus store, install the server on the Windows PC and run your games out of Steam once you're connected. Just make sure you're on the the same WiFi network and, ideally, on 5GHz. It's immensely easy. https://www.vrdesktop.net/
