Cheers @Garwoofoo, that's really great info. I have seen some lenses on ebay that have magnetic mounts, for easy removal, and I did wonder about getting those. But, I'm like you and have pretty terrible eyesight, so I think it would be better to make sure I'm getting really good lenses. I doubt I'll be passing it around much and, if I did, I'd just have to do without them for the night. I'm used to stumbling around in real life anyway. :)

So... thought I'd take the plunge with the upcoming price bump.

Ordered one from Amazon, which was delivered today, only to find this inside the box:-

Spoiler

Hadn't told the kids as it was going to be surprise, oh well. Amazon were very apologetic and refunded the money as soon as I told them.

It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, and was attempted apparently, which was a bit suspicious as I work from home and am pretty sure it wasn't. Also the box was wrapped in clear, not brown tape. 🤨

So anyway here ends my abortive start to VR.

That's the PS5 warehouse theft scam all over again. Someone in the warehouse opened the box, nicked the Quest, replaced it with some nappies from another box they'd opened and sealed it back up with their own tape.

upgraded by 64gb quest 2 to a 128gb one today as i was getting tired of having to keep removing games to play others (was planning to do it at the end of august but with meta putting the price up tomorrow went for it today.)  Of coarse first game i played was the above walkabout golf and the labyrinth dlc (which you can actually explore the labyrinth by not following  the golf coarse route!)  you can tell the coarse has been made with love as its packed with so many details from the movie

The Labyrinth course is amazing, as @papalazarou says above there are so many cool little touches from the movie. It’s definitely been made with love for the movie. The low poly versions of the characters are great.

One of my favourite touches which I’ll put in a spoiler is

Spoiler

When your ball falls into the bog of eternal stench it continues to stink for the rest of the round which I thought was a wonderful detail.

It’s absolutely worth the price of a coffee to download.

Yeah it’s going to take a few goes to get good on - but they nailed the feel of the movie with the course layout (pity they didn’t / couldn’t have used the music from the movie)

No David Bowie with his extremely tight trousers either.

The Labyrinth course is great, lots of lovely little details, including the one where if your ball lands in the swamp it gives off green gas from that point onwards. The changing gravity staircases bit is cool but in practice it's a bit weird that it doesn't affect you (although I can appreciate that this would probably be a nightmare to get right), and means it's quite fiddly trying to get the ball in the hole as you are at completely the wrong angle.

For some reason this course suddenly made me realise how much I'd love them to do one based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass.

Good to see Argos are not waiting to 1st of august to increase the price of the headsets - already up at the new price

Lucky I bought one on Friday then. I reckon I saved about £150 although in truth I wouldn't have bought it after the price rise.

A family friend has just bought a quest 2 and wants to link it to their pc.  I got the original cable from Oculus but couldn't recommend it given the price.

Is there anything specific I need to look for when buying/ recommending a 3rd party cable?

My reccomendation? Don't use the cable.

I would say use virtual desktop (its about £15 but works fantastic) or at a push use airlink for free.

If they are concerned about the battery running out (it should last a couple hours still) then use a external battery.

100% agree with this. It's my setup and I have no reason to use anything else.

Plus, I can do it in a different room to the computer, without having some preposterous 18m USB C cable.

Just had a spin of the demo and it seems great..aiming seems a bit off but that might have been my setup.

Also the train driving game mentioned earlier seems great! Bit more to it than just driving the train thats for sure. Would love a VR densha de go.
