Been playing Star Wars Pinball VR which is excellent and just managed to get hold of Saints And Sinners which seems very, very good so far. The Climb 2 is pretty impressive as well. Only downside is that I've only got about 6 games installed and only have about 15GB left :(

Played shit games on a lesser system. Doesn’t want to try VR again. Checks out.

I've also done a fully professional Marvel VR experience in LA (where I had to wear a vest and gloves so it could track my hands properly) and had brief plays on other systems before, so whatever. That Marvel experience was also completely wire-free, but I guess that's a "shit game on a lesser system" too, right?

And nowhere did I say I wouldn't try it again, but whatever.

I'm very surprised to hear this - that thing is terrifying the first time. I could barely inch out onto the plank and definitely didn't want to jump.

I dunno, I just walked straight out to the phone without any issue and the falling didn't trigger any response either. Propagation did feel better, as I said, it just wasn't great with the actual shooting, which felt loose. That would've been more fun if it had 'normal' traversal rather than the pointer method.

I had my first proper go on VR Saturday at a dedicated centre (so I had my own space to walk around in) and I have to say, I was very underwhelmed.

Overall, then, it wasn't something that I feel I would return to. I

You can see where the confusion lies…

Sad you didn’t enjoy it and have seem to have written off VR as a medium. But whatever.

Ha, well that'll teach me to type a post when tired and not re-read it, so you got me there. :D

By 'first proper go' I meant trying a range of different things - the Marvel experience was just a fancy shooting gallery (though it did have the full-tracking and the platform we moved onto also moved around a bit) - so this was doing some stuff where I expected it to excel, in particular the boxing (I see that it is a 2018 release though so I accept things have likely improved now and I did acknowledge that in my post.)

I think my brother still has PS VR, I might have a play around with that when I next see him.

Hehe it’s fine man I’m only messing with you. I played PSVR a few years ago - the experiences were much more limited than now, obviously (well, not the psvr experiences, they’re still as limited oh ho ho) but I could definitely see the potential. The best experience I had was playing through resi 7 in slightly blur-o-vision PSVR and I admit a certain glee at “playing” the Batman VR experience.

I think it seems that for every Half Life Alyx there’s dozens of Creeds so it is an expensive outlay for potentially not a lot of return. I think we’re still a generation away from it being really great - if it’s allowed to develop that far.

That said…I do really fancy getting a quest and resi 4…

With regards to @Gabe’s experience the first try I had with VR was on the original rift playing Richie’s Plank experience and it did nothing for me. However getting a PSVR and going straight to Rez blew my mind. After that Superhot with moves and Beat Saber totally sold me on VR. Wipeout on PSVR is still the most amazing technical achievement I think I’ve played, just pure witchcraft to get that running on a PS4(pro for me).

The Quest really takes the concept up another level though as while it’s not got the graphical grunt the PS4 had (and obviously not what PCs can do), the first time I played that completely wire free and with proper hand tracking I couldn’t believe it was actually a real consumer level priced product. It was just like magic. And that was at launch without all the improvements that have been made since.

RE4 is really, really, really good. Maybe the best version of the game. And it's one of the best games ever made. It's peppered with great new decisions and mechanics relating to VR which sit atop the already great foundation. It feels fantastic, whether you go for a seated comfortable experience or a full-motion FPS with the laser sight turned off (my preference!) The weapons all feel great and there are lots of things borrowed from Alyx but made more approachable.

Agreed on all counts. I played this for ages yesterday and loved it. It feels so strange to know an environment so well and then be ‘in’ it.

I think RE having tank controls is what makes the switch to VR so successful.

@metallicfrodo I did see Beat Saber being played, but I've never been into rhythm action games so that didn't interest me.

The Marvel VR did have a sense of presence - you ended-up being on a helicarrier, so I did experience a bit of 'presence' but the game itself wasn't very engaging or fun (cost a bloody fortune though, I think it was about $60 each) but being wire-free definitely helped.

@Doctor SharkTo walk my comments back a little, I am prepared to try VR again, though I'm not sure what types of games I like would make for a good experience (action RPGs, mainly). But, as you say, it's an expensive outlay - not that I would have the space for one anyway, even if I loved it.

Walking Dead Saints and Sinners if by far the most immersive Quest game I've played. Playing virtual burglar and going in abandoned houses and physically rooting around in people's drawers and cupboards is strangely thriilling. Not tried Resi 4 yet though.

I really got to get round to playing that

My first VR experience was Astrobot which absolutely blew me away.

I’ve since sold the PSVR and bought a Quest 2 which is awesome but I’m yet to have an experience like I did with Astrobot on the PSVR.

Astrobot is fantastic. Such a shame it will never be on Quest.

No real interest in it for myself (what with my famous good taste around Resi 4), but I have a friend who loves the game who I was thinking of grabbing the Oculus version for, for the next time she visits. However, what I've read about the game's accommodation for body types that, say, have breasts, or wide hips, suggests it might not be ideal for her. Hopefully they patch some kind of body calibration into the game!

It is, and I'd love to replay it on a better headset than PSVR. My one, very slight hope is that it one day makes its way to PCVR, much as other Playstation exclusives have made their way to PC. See also: Wipeout.

I don’t play Resi that way @WiperJust stick the gun/item wheel on right trigger and you won’t get bruised boobs. The beauty of Resi 4 VR is the sraggering amount of options it has.

The inventory management alone is worth the price of admission..

It's really surprisingly great for a licensed game. It's kind of like playing a VR version of The Last of Us.

I looked this up after you mentioned it (got it confused with another walking dead game that was meant to be bobbins, I think) and it looks great! Definitely keen.

Myst is on sale too...

I've always had a soft spot for that game, though i'm aware most don't like it.  When i first played the Demo on a PC Magazine cover disc (where you couldn't leave the Library) My inner Bookworm was enthralled by the setup of the world, the handwritten stories of adventures in other worlds & the postage-stamp sized videos that would play in the books.

It probably doesn't hold up as well today, but I'm willing to revisit those worlds in VR to see if any of that enthrallment remains.

Ah, fab; a shame she won't get to go for the most tactile approach, but probably worth it for the avoidance of unintentional self-harm! Thanks for letting me know there are alternative options :)

No worries. The immersive option is obviously more immersive because it makes you feel like Leon, but due to things like the cutscenes and third-person animations when you kick and push things, having a wheel appear on-screen doesn't really ruin things.

If she suffers from VR sickness there's a slew of options too ranging from teleportation to even no side-stepping (which makes the game a little harder and more in line with the slower pacing of the original game). It really is an astonishing game.

Has anyone played this with teleportation? Obviously it looks very interesting, but I just cannot get on with active locomotion.
