Oculus Quest

My link cable (Amazon choice variant) has stopped being reported as a USB3 cable, and PCVR looks ropey as hell now (noticeable compression artifacts).  What's odd, is that by all accounts online it doesn't actually use more than 300mbps anyway so USB2 should be capable, but somehow isn't.  Is there something else inherent about USB2 Vs USB3 other than pure bandwidth?

In any case, I've ordered a new cable which should come today but this will be my second cheaper cable now and part of me wonders whether it'd be better served with the official one.  Although hopefully this one will last.

I've not had much time to play this yet but I rinsed the demo:

I've tried a couple of drumming-type experiences and this one works the best so far; doesn't quite manage the audiovisual feedback of something like rock band or beatsaber but they've had a good go. Bit rough around the edges and the song selection isn't up to much but there's a lovely flow when you get into a tricky beat.

I put my plan of trading the PS4 Pro for the Quest 2 into action, & so far I don't regret it.  First Steps was mindblowing in that I could actually see my hands & reach out, pick up & use/manipulate virtual objects such as a ping-ping bat & a gun.  For my first purchase I decided upon Moss.  Wonderful experience.

I've populated my Quest Wish List with half a dozen titles & will ration them out over the next few months.  I'm aware that there's not a lot of software (compared to a PS4 at least) but what i've seen so far has justified the device to me.

Turns out this was announced ages ago, but I've only just heard. Also it's out this month!

Ah well. It's awful.

Ostensibly, it's a first-gen VR selection of carnival games with really unresponsive and flaky mechanics. Really annoying shit, like items all looking similar on a shelf, but only 10% being grabbable, so you're just flailing at scenery. In one minigame, you're throwing balloons out of a rollercoaster cart, and they still show balloons laying there when you don't have any left, so you're idiotically grabbing at air again.

The chat with the characters is pretty good, but this is not the game you want it to be. And I hope the deserved response to it doesn't put them off revisiting the franchise.

Try Floor Plan 2 for something that feels like the game this could have been.

Hottest day of the year so seemed fitting to pop down to John Lewis and pick up a Quest 2. Opted for the 64gb version.

So far so good, I lost my VR virginity with PSVR so I guess that immediate wow factor was a little less but it's a bloody cool little thing. The boundary setting is genius and had a lot of fun with the demo.

I need to track back through the thread looking for recommendations. Does the store have sales on at any time?

There are always a few discounts, they're rarely that great though. But they seems to send out discount codes quite frequently.

Jeeesus I just tried the Super Hot demo and I am super hot but not just because of the weather. That was intense I'm not sure I could play the full game.

I did laugh when I took the headset off and I was facing a full 180 degrees away from where I thought I was. The boundaries feature on Oculus is brilliant.

Super Hot is amazing, but admittedly not great in this weather. I still think it’s the best VR game there is. In that it’s a game that totally makes you feel in another reality totally with the time manipulation. As opposed to other VR games which are amazing just because you feel the sense of place,

Think that Ragnarock has been added to the App Lab and is well worth checking out - especially if you're a fan of metal music in any way. I loved the Steam VR version and may well buy it on Quest just for the wires free aspect. Custom songs are a breeze to add for the Steam version too.

Lone Echo has been discounted to £7.99. The lower price is available until the sequel is released on August 24th.  It's a PCVR title so will only work with Link/Airlink/Virtual Desktop.  At that price, and with the amount of positive reviews it has, I think i'll give it a try.

I've never had a voucher from Oculus :(

They seem to come around if you stop playing/purchasing.

I recently got a 30% off one and I'd say it must be 4 months since I used my oculus.

Picked up Saints & Sinners for £20.

Ah, I use it every day as a PCVR headset for sim racing and obviously it detects me as signing in even if I'm not using a native app.

thats literally all I’ve used it for (albeit not quite daily) and it’s sent me a couple of vouchers in the past 12 months. Dunno!

Guys, quick question if I may. I have PSVR but only use it for Beatsaber so I like the idea of the Quest because no wires.

Given the quest 1 is cheaper and I probably only want Beatsaber is it worth the extra for a Quest 2?

It’s definitely a lot quicker and easier to use than PSVR and not having cables is brilliant. You might want to hold off on a quest 2 however as they are recalling them due to the foam in the eyepiece, also there is a rumour that the base 64gb is being replaced with a 128gb version for the same price which is obviously true as I’ve just bought the 64gb version.

The Guardian system is a good idea for not bashing into things, but perhaps it could be modified that when you are using roomscale it will go into passthrough if someone enters that space as well as if you leave it.

I had a very enjoyable hour or so on Walkabout Mini Golf last night. It was very zen with some great holes, and the ball physics and so on were spot on. It's a shame that playing local multiplayer with the headset and so on is such a faff. I wanted to play with my wife but my massive head compared to her pea head would have meant adjusting the straps and so on after every hole. Still, however, as a single-player experience it was great. I think I only paid about £8 for it, or something, in a sale.
