Hey guess what Uzi

”We are unable to find a match for the shipment number you have entered. We may not yet have received your parcel from your retailer.”

Meanwhile I can get same day delivery from Argos or just walk half a mile and pick one up.

That's because it's using the tracking ID not the shipment ID (which should be in your text). Mine arrived today despite also initially getting the above error message.

Didn't get a text, or an email. But you're right - I phoned the supplier direct dept and they told me it had definitely been dispatched but they can't track it.

I bet you an Oculus Quest 2 it doesn't turn up.

I bet a 3090 shows up instead

Mine turned up at 11:30; I've had a quick go to set it up and now it's charging.

Initial thoughts:

  • The display is a lot sharper and worth the upgrade. My IPD is about 63mm so ideal for setting 2, but I still notice some slight blurriness towards the edges of the lenses.
  • Black levels are not as good as the Quest 1 but perfectly acceptable.
  • Audio seems a bit better/louder.
  • A couple of Quest 1 accessories I had still fit - the AMVR lens rings and AMVR grips (these are a slightly tight fit but nothing major).
  • It's faster - the bootup time in particular is super speedy compared to the original.

Oh my god,the reviewers were not kidding about the strap. It's utterly useless.

I thought it would do me but it's so much worse than the first quest strap and even that was shite.

Yep I’ve got this on order:

Heyyy it turned up. Nice!

First impressions:

Lighter. It's only lighter by a fifth but it really makes a difference.

The elite strap is a must have. While it's daylight robbery at £50 for about £2 worth of plastic and packaging, it makes a gigantic difference. That thing is firmly cupping the back of my skull now and doesn't budge at all, without feeling too tight. I'm able to look down without it hanging off my face or wobbling around. Game changer.

Screen and lenses: Boo it's no OLED. I didn't realise that it was LCD as I didn't read too much about it. It's not the end of the world though. It's sharper, colourful, still a tad streaky around the edges. God rays are pretty minimal, about the same as the quest.

Tracking: This seems much improved. It was very noticeable in a couple of beat saber songs with notes in the upper far reaches which I would consistently "miss" before. Suddenly I'm hitting them every time.

Controllers: Much improved also. Only a small difference, but having a place to rest your thumbs feels lovely. I do feel like I have to depress the trigger at all times when I'm playing Beat Saber. it's almost as if there should be an option to lock the trigger in place so it doesn't move.

Audio: Better. It was godawful before, so that's nice. Still a way to go but it's an improvement.

Performance: Speedy! Menus are much nippier than before and boot time is faster too.

All in all, very good first impressions.

Don't forget to switch on passthrough and 90hz (it's not enabled by default!) in the experimental features bit.

This post just cost me £49.00

My first impressions with the standard strap were also that it's awful - It was cutting into my ears and hurt the back of my head.

I then realised I was trying to make it fit like the Quest 1 strap, where it's supposed to cup the base of your skull. I tried again with the arms higher and the strap more horizontal - it now sits a lot higher and made a massive difference in comfort. I played for quite a while without even feeling it.

Also, I was surprised to notice that the audio actually has a bit of bass to it now. I really noticed it with the background music in Arizona Sunshine.

I've caved and bought one of these, the 64gb model ('proper' games I'll run via link to my PC). My first VR set, seriously hyped. Arrives Thursday, have a Half Life Alyx downloading now.

Any recommendations for free stuff to try? A link to a site which gives best ideas etc would be appreciated.

Is the included USB-C cable long enough to be used for link play? Not bothered about room scale stuff, the PC is literally right next to the chair and I want to use it for racing games.

TLDR; how long is the included cable?

Quest 1, yes. Quest 2, no - it looks like they've intentionally made it shorter so you'll have to buy a Link cable (or much cheaper third party equivalent!).

It's about 1m.

Previous quest cable was long as fuck.

Thanks for all the replies. Those cheeky cheap bastards. Jokes on them though,  as I was feeling the new tech itch and was going to pick one up from Argos as they're in stock. However as I can't just plug it straight into the PC and get it linked up straight away, I'll leave it for now and probably get over the desire for a new headset entirely. My OG Rift is just a little bit screen doory but it's still good... it's still good. Sigh.

Is there any difference in use between this one and the official cable apart from the extra length of the official one (and the fact the official one is optical)? Is this one fast enough for the Quest 2 for all use purposes?

Yeah the shorter cable is a bummer. The amount of times I used the long one so I could still play while it was charging up (sitting down) made it super useful. Third party cable it is. No way am I gonna buy the official one on top of the Elite headstrap.

Both this and the official cable are 5GBS

This is fucking magical. Setting up Guardian and seamlessly moving between VR and my living room (with floating AR elements) is trippy as hell.

And the fidelity is so much better than my old DK2. Loving it.

Bit sad to find out that Google Earth isn't natively on it though. My PC ran old DK2 experiences, but it's a little anaemic for current VR.

There's an app called Wander that is basically Google earth with multiplayer components and some other stuff. It's £7.99.

Also, don't rest on Alcove. Free app which I love. There are some tours of Japan, new York, Rome and others and I love them. Also has board games and other stuff to mess around in.
