E3 2019 | Microsoft Sunday June 9th 9:00PM BST

This had better include an all-out hardware announcement to counter the PS5 details we've just learnt, rather than the merits of streaming. The latter will be a complete turn off for me.

 

I know we all want games, games, games (and it'll be fantastic to see where all these new 1st parties are in terms of output), but we're getting to that point of next gen announcements now. I want a competitor to the box under the TV model, not an acquiescence to the trend for streaming.

I think beyond some actual hardware reveal we're going to see lots of games being "released holiday 2019" or something.  Early launch for Xbox to give them a fighting chance against the Sony games juggernaut.  Sony could release a potato at this point but as long as it ran their first party games they'd be fine.

I'm expecting to see a couple more studio aquisitions to further push what they want to do with Game Pass, Hopefull the new game from Studio MHDR will make an appearance (they wanted to work on a 90's Anime style game so something visually nuts is inbound)

 

Hopefully the first party studios have their own creative freedom and don't chase the metacritic bus.

 

I can't help thinking that a new Forza from Turn 10 could signal an end to the bi annual new release and we start to have an ever upgradeable racing sim where the core racing game is there for everyone on the platform to dive into but is continally updated with new cars and courses and features. ie you buy a season pass or content as you want it and it all just evolves.

 

Don't see VR happening.

 

Will the fabled Nintendo partnership come to anything?

 

Will Xbox partner with Sega Japan and do something semi intelligent like launch the new Xbox in Japan as a Sega branded hardware product?

 

Personally have no interest in streaming so that'll be a bust.

I really want this, but is the model sustainable? I think it's perfect for Motorsport, where you don't need a massive new area a la Horizon. I mean sure, they can tweak how well a track is rendered, but we don't need distinct games each with their own version of Spa.

 

I'd keep buying DLC with ever more tracks if that's the model they went to.

It feels like the logical conclusion of everything eventually being a 'service' so I wouldn't be surprised, There seems to be a general feeling that certain game types are overly stale so to have something that never goes out of date and is just constantly updated is probably the answer.

Well hopefully because they'll have built the game to take advantage of the leap in CPU power the next gen looks like offering. 

 

I want a Fable that gets back to the idea of a world being shaped by your actions.

It makes a lot of sense financially. How much would they charge for a track? £5? What about a couple of cars? Now take the current £40 game and count up how many cars and tracks that comes with. What ever the number is im sure it's a lot, so thats a lot of content to make for just £40 assuming thats the price you buy the game at. But make it all DLC with just a base pack and you can earn much more per track or car or what ever is made. This surely has to be the way this sort of game goes as the content creation goes up but the lack of changes diminishes.

I imagine the problem with a GaaS real-world racing game is the perpetual licensing required for the cars. We've seen how multiple Forza games (and all of the PGR titles) have been delisted and aren't available on BC.

Good point, I guess it has limits. But reading this thread reminded me that Real Racing 3 is exactly what we're talking about it. I played it originally on my 2012 Nexus 7 tablet, and it's still going. They just keep adding stuff to it. So I guess, for EA at least, this model works. Granted, the game isn't as complicated as FM, and is built from the ground up on mobile monetization.

Turn 10 have only just started preliminary work on Motorsport 8. I'd actually expect the next Forza title to be the next Horizon at next gen launch. They've spent 18 months adding features and fixing FM7.  No new tracks but it already has 200 variations and I doubt those demanding such have driven on them all. 

 

As for E3 rumours suggest we'll see Playground's Fable, new Rare multiplayer IP, Ninja Theory's next title possibly releasing in 2019, a ton of Gears 5 , the tech behind Halo Infinite and that Xbox's stage will see a ton of 3rd party announcements with it being the only show in town.

Well no, I haven't, but it's just difficult to justify the time after all the previous ones. I'd um and ah over it even knowing the above, having put time into FM6 (and the Ms prior). 

 

I may pick it up on the cheap some time, but more likely to wait to see how 8 is planned.

I think they'll be more careful this time around seeing as there's nothing really official regarding the PS5 specs yet and anything they announce can then be trumped by Sony afterwards.
