Hey, @MattyP, guess who stayed up till 3 last night playing Astrobot?

What a charming, lovely little celebration of the history of playstation. Top three things that made me laugh:

  Reveal hidden contents

The bot cosplaying Bloodborne

The GPU song

Fighting the T-Rex from the PS1 demo

When setting up the console, it asked me which of my PS4 games I wanted to transfer to the PS5, so I selected a few. It said it would take 99+ hours! I cancelled. I think I'll just transfer over the save data, then I can re-download the games piecemeal, as and when I want them. For example, I'll be wanting to play Bloodborne with a solid frame rate at some point.

Then I'll buy an external SSD. Is that what we were talking about?

:D Warned you.... Charming isn't it? A great way of demonstrating the controller whilst providing a bit of nostalgia and a celebration of what the PlayStation brand has delivered over the years it's existed!

I was expecting an appearance from a virtual Ken Kutaragi at some point near the end though. Miss him and his whacky hardware designs. I'll always see him as the essence or ethos behind the PlayStation.

I finally replaced the white face plates with some cheap matt black ones. The hideous lump of ridiculously curved white has now almost dissappeared under the TV. They are a little flimsier feeling and, obviously, don't have the Sony logo/textures but that's not an issue at all...

Why Sony have not been pumping out face plates in different colours or themes themselves is a mystery as they seem like they would be easy money.

Ok, this isn't strictly a ps5 thing, but when I ordered my ps5, I also got an LG CX. I was playing Tales of Berseria on my PS4 on the old 1080p telly, but am now playing it on the PS5 on the new LG. Holy heck, the colours pop! I don't think I've ever used the word vibrant before, but that's what the picture is!

I've been copying files backwards and forwards to external storage recently, I have to say the Xbox does this much better than PS5. Why can I do nothing else while files are copying Sony? It's really not that intensive. 😬

IIRC the LG TVs expanding the image from the ordinary RGB colour space to the whole HDR colour space by default. I don’t normally suggest image enhancements like that but for games, especially 2D games or something that isn’t trying to be photorealistic, it’s incredible. Don’t turn it off, once you’re used to it “ordinary” colours look like shit.

It’s more about the fact that it’s a true 10 bit  panel and an OLED.

Ah, ok. It's on game mode, which I thought turned off all the image enhancement gubbins. But whatever the settings are it looks great, so I won't be changing anything.

I think a couple of people in here have had controllers go bad, right?  My right trigger is doing the 'floppy to the point of registering a press if you look at it funny' thing.  Game say they need it for "14 working days" (what does that mean?) to replace, and Sony haven't responded yet.  What did you guys do?

Since it's obviously faulty (and a relatively well known fault at that) I was going to request a refund from Game (and maybe have the argument about it being part of a bundle, despite the extra controller being an itemised line on the order... and it's obviously the extra one that's broken, right?), and have ordered a new one from Amazon.  I'm afraid I'm at the stage of being a parent where having 2 controllers in the house is well worth the extra couple of quid it might cost me in the long run, just for the sake of the kids being able to play Minecraft at the same time...

Game want a "handwritten cover letter" describing the issue, and requested photos of the thing before they'd discuss it with me over email...  Are they having people try it on that often?!

Send it back to Sony. They’ll pay for postage and you’ll get it back in reasonably short order.

I’ve returned 3 thus far. (2 floppy triggers, 1 right stick drift).

Recommend putting the PS5 in the loft if a labour government get voted in. Heard something weird about Sector 7 bailiffs looking for Mexican or Korean goods that didn't pass port inspection or something. Doesn't make massive amount of sense to me, but Shadow Governments tend to be a bit eccentric lacking police information and just do random stuff that seems cool.

That Rachet & Clank picture points to the letters 'Nark'. Seems a combination of Quark and Narc? Typically Quark refers to the MOD.

"3. n. A person that turns you in for something you did wrong; specifically to any type of authority figure like parents, cops, teachers, boss, etc. "

Sounds a bit Sector 7, yep.

Okay. Just wanted to say that same as the social club legal agreement when you register here, there's a legal agreement you have the following phone number for Colchester Garrison, (01206 816080), cos I did make a legal agreement at school to the population. Also the thing about Playstation2 having scud missile launcher chips going around gamer news was true. Someone fixed the legal issue with this, possibly David Blunkett liked Singstar or something.
