When my PS5 turns up this week and I need to do the recabling, I'm right in thinking that I don't want to cable it like I do the PS4 Pro and run everything through the PSVR breakout box, right? The VR box isn't HDMI 2.1, so I'd lose some of the benefits of the PS5 by doing that?

Is there a recommended HDMI 2.1 box that I can plumb the PS5 output into, and then select whether I want that to go direct to the TV on one input, or via PSVR on a separate input? That would seem to involve the least amount of messing with cables?

Not yet I don't think. @SeanR posted a setup that worked on HDMI 2.0 devices where you could have the PS4 Pro going into a splitter one to the TV one to the PSVR you got the full benefits of 2.0 from the Pro as long as you didn't put the PSVR on. Seemed to be the perfect solution except for the lack of 2.1 splitters currently. I still ahve to manually switch cables to run mine.

Not really surprising. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if PS5 software sales dropped or stayed flat during the actual launch week.

Shops are shut until December so everyone is pre-ordering online. If you pre-order a console online you're probably pre-ordering your games online as well and they're being delivered a week earlier than the console so it's not really as noteworthy as it first appears.

Based on previous experience with the PS4 Pro/PS VR v1/HDMI 2.0, you'll probably lose 4K 120Hz support by connecting PS VR up as normal.

I tried using my amp as a splitter, but the PS4 always seemed to detect the PS VR and downgrade the signal. I ended up upgrading to the v2 headset.

Yeah a quick google and a trawl of the splitters on Amazon reveals no 2.1 splitters - I think the best search term is 8K as that is only supported by 2.1 irrc.

HDMI 2.0 supports 8K at 30hz

4K 120 Hz at 4:2:0 is also a part of the HDMI 2.0 spec according to Wikipedia.

Never knew that. I’m assuming that it’s not supported by the LG B7 (or the Series X) as it doesn’t show as an option for me.

Anyway, hopefully Sony will sort something out for the VR breakout box. Cable swapping is a pain in the arse.

Coming from a PS4, can I just copy saves, login to the PS5 with the same accounts and go from there?

Not bothered about a 'full' transfer if it's mainly game downloads from the store I can get at a later date.

Even better, just upload your saves to the cloud - when you load up any PS4 games the saves will work. I genuinely don't understand* why people are needing to link the PS4 and the PS5 and transfer data across. Just log in to the PS5 with your PSNID, you'll still have all your library of purchases available to download, all your cloud saves, and all your trophies.

*One exception - people with really shit internet who want to continue playing their PS4 games.

I am 99% certain, yes.

Also you have to manually download each games cloud saves on ps5.

First thing going to do is go in the back end of the Console and just get everything from the cloud. I managed to slim it down to about 17gigs

This is great. With PS5 game sales topping the charts and Game Pass breaking the internet it looks like both of the new systems are getting off to a flying start. What a time to be alive.

Does anyone out there know how the ps5 handles voice chat. You can of course use the controller mic but I’m worried when I play something like Apex online I’m just going to get shouting and hip hop.

Same as PS4, or rather, the PS5 system got spliced into the PS4 recently. The new 'Party' system is how it'll work, and private parties will get priority over in-game chat groups. Every controller having a mic is why chat will be standard now (also why people are freaking out over it being set to on by default).

Hopefully they have an option to mute everyone but friends/party members. I'll never use that because I'd miss out on all the delicious salt and rage but I can imagine games with loads of randoms being a nightmare.

I do appreciate that we can just use the Playstation App for voice chat now since I can just use my phone. I don't want to spend money on a headset just for videogames.
