Sony are cheeky fuckers! 

 

I'd decided to let me PSN+ subscription lapse since I rarely if ever play online and have it set to lapse in my options. It comes to end in a couple of weeks time. I got an email yesterday saying that they were giving me an extra couple of weeks at the end free of charge. Fair enough I thought.

 

This morning however I've got another email saying that my 2 week trial is set up and ready to go and at the end of it I'll automatically renew on a monthly basis. Well dodgy.

 

If you get any kind of 'offer' from them, make sure you check exactly what they're doing to your account.

I know. I had auto-recurring turned off. But they’ve turned it back on without asking me.
 

Luckily I actually read the email that they sent me and noticed what they’d done but what if I hadn’t? They’d have charged me at least a months PSN+ (assuming I’d noticed the charge on my bank account) and from what I’ve heard about their customer service previously would have banned my account and therefore stopped me accessing the digital games I’ve paid for, should I have needed to do a charge back. 
 

It’s as dodgy as fuck and pretty inexcusable imo. Will certainly make me think twice before ever resubscribing to their shitty service ever again that’s for sure.

It’s very odd that they would turn it back on without you actively accepting an offer, that would seem a very dubious practice. They will turn it on every time you change your subscription, top-up etc. but at least you’re aware of that.

The problem is this is Sony so you expect it to be dubious at best, they really need to be hammered for their practices like this and the farce over ripping people off for PS5 versions where there is a free upgrade on the PS4 game but its just how they operate and they get a free pass due to being popular/powerful - they need a PS3 style humbling.

Yep they’re not doing themselves any favours recently. This may be my last PS if they keep it up.

The shame is that ive been using the PS5 a lot lately and I really like a lot of what it does but, and there is always a but with Sony, there is so much rubbish to deal with and then the outright greed and willingness to rip off their consumers brings you back down.

 

They need that dude from MS to come in and shake them the fuck up - its such a weird thing to say but MS are the good guys in this arena :o

I got caught out by the same with PS Plus, it ate up all my PSN credit before I noticed - customer services couldn’t give a monkeys. I paid for 3 months and didn’t use it once. I haven’t left credit or payment methods on my account since, still have a sour taste over it.

I can't say Sony being cunts is anything new, as soon as they reach a comfortable position of leadership they always revert to that as their default behaviour.

 

I fucking love my PS5, it's amazing and far outshines Xbox, Switch etc for me. Sony themselves however were never going to stay as they were during the 'mid PS3 to mid PS4' era, it's a shame cos that is the only time I genuinely liked the way they were acting as a company. Greed always takes over and they can never hide it.

Yeah Sony seem quite intent on mimicking Nintendo these days. Unfortunately it’s not just the quality 1st-party titles, innovative hardware, cut-to-the-chase video presentations and celebrating their own history bits but also the aloof “fuck you buddy” attitude to the customer bit.

I could do with VRR sooner than “the coming months”, purely for Elden Ring; not expecting From to address the performance any time soon. I get that it's a niche feature, though: I'm guessing a low single-figure percentile of the PlayStation audience have an HDMI 2.1 TV.

 

Interesting that it's a two-tier toggle, one only for “supported” games and a blanket option. I'm expecting the latter to work fine – Sony are always super cautious in their wording about enabling stuff like Boost Mode – but I wonder if developers will be able to include specific VRR-tuned modes in their games. For example, Forbidden West could target a range of 40-50fps at a higher resolution than the current performance mode.
