Nightmare, phone up Sony and hopefully they’ll refund it.

Absolutely DO NOT download it if you can help it. Under no circumstances run it.

Thanks guys. I found a form to request a refund but I need to go digging through my account to find the transaction id to submit the form.

It hasn’t started downloading yet and I’ve now removed it from the queue so hopefully that’s enough.

Annoyingly there was another game I queued to download this morning, but I must have gone through the claim process on the console for that one.

dude have you got fomo? You’re constantly in the ps5 thread trying to shit on it, it’s an amazing console, that’s an unconfirmed report and the air flow tests show plenty of cool air will be sent over the nvme expansion slot anyway

It’s a discussion forum not a love in, you can be critical of things as you know as you were hardly gushing with praise about your account being hacked - we are consumers not being sponsored (well maybe you are) to own and report on these devices so calling out stuff where it’s not good regardless of brand loyalty should be the norm not attacked.

My PS5 has just bricked.

I was playing hitman 2016 getting trophies and it suddenly turned off and beeped.

Tried turning it on and few times got the repairing message.

right now I got a pulsing blue light.

I had a white light but nothing on the screen.

It just dies....

The tv is where I want it, the switches are where they are because that’s how the house got built.

Anyway. I managed to get to the safe menu, I just randomly picked change resolution and set it to 1080p and to my surprise it booted.

All my recently played game were shuffled then I went across the game library and it turned itself off

I turned it on again and it booted properly but gave me a software error reporting option. Then turned itself off again 2 minutes later.

I think it’s an over heating problem

Edit. I did a system nuke reset via the safe menu and it failed so had to long press to turn it off.

turned it on and I was greeted with the ps5 opening cinematic and a clean console again.

Just downloading some games to test.

edit edit

Hitman 3 is ok until I get about 7 minutes in and the console just gives up.

Need to try a different game but I think this thing dead.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is only £32.99 for the standard edition on PSN!?

Wut.

Does that mean it is a) averageware, or b) only 2 hours long?

If any game looked £70 it's this one.

It’s a game that can be finished in a weekend so the dev says. I take that to mean anywhere from 4-12 hours

Given this isn’t official surely it’s not right, 7 months after launch you can add some storage to the minuscule amount you get on launch!?

The fan ramp will 100% be needed for the hdd as pointed out by all the strip downs due to how inefficient the cooling design is particularly for the very fast and therefore hot NVME upgrades.

I think you’re overestimating how warm NVME drives get. They don’t get warmer than SATA SSDs, as far as I know. You can’t look at the fact that PC part manufacturers put heat sinks on a lot of them and read too much into it, as we saw with RAM. It’s a market where adding pointless heatsinks and silly lights makes sense from a business and marketing perspective.

The NVME will also be actively cooled, which is more efficient than pretty much any PC set up, which is usually just a heat sink and no air actually being blown over it.

Not so sure. I am starting to look around this as I have a NVME drive with no heatsink in my PC however it is an older slower one to those now available and given the speed the PS5 must run them at I expect there will be a fair amount of heat generated. Added to the fact it will be mounted in a fairly confined place it will get quite toasty unless it's cooled well. I expect this is why Sony are taking their time to recommend appropriate NVME drives. The problem is if they are ran hot for long periods the lifespan is reduced significantly. If will be interesting to see how this develops. As for heatsinks they do make a difference and let's remember the PC has a lot space and air to dissipate heat in  too...

I think the enclosed space is an advantage in this situation. It’s essentially a wind tunnel which is going to allow the fan to push air over it at higher speed.

i also don’t think Crystal Disk Mark is a great bench for console use cases. You’re mainly going to see sustained reads or mixed I/O, rather than sustained writes.

I completely agree, but you're constantly in here criticising things you don't know about, shitting on the console due to some unconfirmed report from some guy on twitter and assuming it suddenly means PS5's will sound like jet engines and the expansion drives will overheat while people are still just getting their consoles delivered and setup, wait until it happens to criticise is all i'm saying.

@Harrisown Have you contacted Playstation Support? Any response?

So overnight I left it in rest mode downloading.

it wouldn’t turn on so had to long press out if it.

I tried loading Demons Souls and it started loading but before the splash  screen was gone it had turned itself off

.....so I’m now looking into support.

Edit. Support page offers a few things I haven’t tried yet like a completely different power cable and reinstalling the firmware. Do I do these pointless things before I phone them or do I just lie and say i did them.

I have had coil whine (on 2 consoles) but my PS5 is getting louder, louder to a point its just annoying as fuck and i have to have headphones in and up loud. I have maybe played it for 30 hours tops. My other half hates when im playing the thing because of the sound.

Still working ok though. But im tempted to contact Sony for a replacement but not sure they would do anything. Im just happy i have other devices for my media apps.

They swapped mine for loud coil whine, told me not to power it on in case it's an electrical fault.

I think we can safely say the power supplies are shit in these things

”we are currently experiencing exceptionally high volumes of calls , wait time is 30 minutes”

GPU cards suffer from it on the PC too.... Just one of those things. Think the PS5 ramps up the GPU frequency quite high when games need the extra grunt and I guess this is why the whine is there when some games are played.

Not sure why Sony did this rather than just run everything at the highest stable clock frequency they could get. There would have been less instances of coil whine I'm guessing or at least they could have manufactured them the have some consistency using components that would have performed at the clock frequency chosen.

I thought the clock speed was set in stone. Apart from backward compatibility. It’s the power delivery that has some weird stuff going on.

The PS5 GPU can ramp up the clock speed (effectively like overclocking a PC GPU) when needed. Guessing it's when this happens it's driving components a bit harder. The Series X has a fixed GPU clock rate though.

Tried to contact sony support by online means and forums and they cant help with the current issue.

Any issues i have with microsoft products have been sorted without me actually speaking to someone. I hate talking on the bloody phone.

Coil whine is literally vibrations and you can do plenty to prevent it - it costs money and I would say Sony have gone for the cheap option but obv I know nothing about it and can’t comment as it’s not positive towards Sony.

Much like the poor airflow stuff you can get very in depth views on this from independent people on the internet and some brilliant YouTube stuff full of people testing with full diagnosis equipment that I’ve based my comments on....

CEX seem to have cut their prices for PS5 consoles. Still way over rrp but getting closer.

Didn't want to bump the stock alerts thread and get peoples hopes up so I'll just stick that here.

Was on hold to tech support for about 25 minutes and they are now closed :slowclap:

I managed to fudge the PlayStation into working but as soon as you do anything to do with three dimensions it breaks.

This is exactly how it first happened last week (only remembered today) and then last night and now forever...

im pretty gutted to not be able to do the elusive contract. But it was worth a shot because there’s no way this is getting sorted before it expires.
