The implementation of HDMI-CEC is exactly the same on PS4 as it is on PS5. There's nothing underbaked about that feature, it's intentional.

And the Xbox One for that matter.

If I've turned off the TV with the One selected, it turns on with the TV.

I’m sure this got a lot of debate some pages back but...

Ive got a digital edition on the way. Until now, I’ve been mostly physical.

Ive got maybe 10 PS4 games as I’m pretty picky, so I’m not worried about being stuck with games I don’t want. But I will miss games on shelves.

Anyone else find the same thing or sticking to physical?

I got a physical one because I wanted to be able to play my old disc games but the noise my drive puts out when it’s checking the disc makes me wish I’d gone digital and just rebought the games I actually wanted to play again in sales. :p

Just don't use it? it's a nice to have in a pinch?

The machine should only spin up and check the disc initially then stop - just like on the PS4 - but I'm aware that it's currently spinning up every hour. That might get patched out.

I'm 90% digital, but bought the drive version just to have it. Even though the driveless console is the better looking of the two, and cheaper.

Yeah mine spins up randomly (or probably every hour, haven’t timed it) even if I’m playing something else.

I agree it’s nice to have it, Last Guardian unpatched is a good example. Just wish it was less noticeable. Hopefully something they can patch like you say.

Yeah, this is something different to the behaviour with the PS4, and absolutely loads of people are complaining about it, I'd imagine it will get addressed some point soon.

The last firmware fixed the - super annoying - thing where the PS5 would install BOTH the PS4 and PS5 version of a game if you have the PS4 disc. That was fixed, so there's hope.

I went physical just because that was all that was available but I'm glad I did because, even though I own most PS4 games digitally, it meant I could play The Last Guardian at 60fps.

Jeez is that still an issue?

So just to be clear, after the heat death of the universe and I finally find a PS5 in stock somewhere, I should put my last guardian disc in and reject any updates?

Yes. Hopefully, it'll get an update like God of War, which needed the same no update trick for 4K60

How is this selling in Japan? The common wisdom’s always been that the more compact you can get your electronics the better.

If they’re picking up this beast, that’s some serious brand loyalty.

I’m expecting a hardware revision asap.

It’s madness over there with people overqueuing. Yodobashi is currently limiting PS5 sales to exclude people who bought one earlier or bought multiple Switches (?).

So yeah. “Peachy.”

Physical due to the amount of choice around price, and can resell or trade anything I buy for something else. When you still see a gulf of between £15-20 between a disc and a digital version, it's a winner to me, disc drive noise or not.

As noted the blu ray disc drive makes a very silly noise and the intermittent spinning of the disc if you leave it in makes me wonder who actually tested this machine? Also going in and out of rest mode it drops internet connection and sometimes takes a full power cycle of the PS5 and the Router to resolve. I’ve heard this is quite common as well. So much to love about this thing but so many silly problems that detract from the experience.

Also leaving party voice chat is terribly unintuitive. After Monday Night Race Club in GT Sport it’s always “ bye then.......” ..........”hang on, what do I press again?....”.......” oh that’s it, bye......”

I think there was a news story last month about a store that handed out ballots to randomly allocate their PS5 stock to interested customers, and even that process turned in to a violent riot where they had to withdraw the consoles from sale.

Someone's probably going to notice IGN's news story about Sony supposedly doing a PS5 version of the back button attachment for the pad. Or one of the news articles at supposedly reputable tech sites echoing it.

IGN's story is based on a patent dated to before the original attachment came out, a patent that shows the original back button attachment, attached to old the Dual Shock 4 pad.

https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=WO2021021362&tab=PCTBIBLIO

I have no rightful idea how IGN concluded it has anything to do with the PS5.

The menus and setup for inviting friends/making parties/doing fucking anything are atrocious. Especially compared to Xbox UI.

Honestly, the PS5 is the worst launch console I have ever owned.

Oh give it a rest mate

Give what a rest? Am I not allowed to not like something about something I bought? I'm not allowed an opinion on an opinion fucking forum?

Everyone critises parts of games they play. Why can't I be annoyed by a product I bought?

Im not going to wank over and praise a company or something that I don't like.

Things will improve, it's early days. But I'm not going to ignore it.

Think it's probably the fact it's the second one you have had.... And you sold the first one because you didn't really enjoy it after you finished the games you wanted to play on it.

It's a great console for sure if there is content you want to play on it and can justify the cost to play the content.

Just seems odd that you've bought one again despite not really getting on with it the first time around :) Especially as they are in short supply and it looks like there is nothing available that you enjoy on it at the moment! Anyhow just second guessing why the comment was made.

No doubt GT7 will be awesome though but personally I'd be surprised if that sees a release this year...my guess is March time next year. Normally a GT game would be my reason to buy a Playstation but I've been spoilt with VR racing now. Hopefully they build some VR support into it this time around for races. The PSVR support in GT sport was awesome but it was a shame it didn't extend to full races.

I had to sell it because I shouldn't have bought it in the first place at the time (it left me skint) but the opportunity came around to buy another (i made some good money from selling a watch) and I needed something to play GT Sport on. Buying a cheap PS4 seemed silly.

At least now I have the Sony exclusives to look forward to. I just need to accept the issues it has at the moment and not make any fuss about it :)
