PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

Finally got to try someone elses PS5 Dual sense on my console side by side and... it wasn't broken. The effect is just crap  I don't understand what all these reviewers were getting so excited about. It's a joke how responsive it is and even on full pelt it just feels too weak. Were they maybe supplied better pads by Sony for the vids? I love Digital Foundry but from their footage on it, was like the second coming of controllers.

I set mine up yesterday, the controller is nice but not revolutionary as some sites have claimed.

The OS is ‘fine’, identifying what games I have in my library and what I have installed is less clear than it could be. It’s clearly based on the PS4 OS, so it shouldn’t be as muddled as it is.

The console isn’t so visually offensive in person, or as big as I feared (the OH said ‘it’s huge’, so may just be me), it could be smaller and neater but it does at least seem to be quiet.

I have noticed the PS5 is giving my external SSD a workout while in rest mode, I have no idea what it’s doing - I’m not downloading and it’s still flashing away like crazy.

Well my console seems to have developed a minor fault, after playing Ghost of Tsushima off of my external hdd earlier when I went to the dash there was a tile saying unsupported disc, this is the cyberpunk disc, so I ejected it and put it back in and it's fine. However whenever I boot my console it gives me the same error so I have to eject and replace the disc, rather annoying. Seems I'm not the only one to experience this from looking around, someone on reddit seemed to think removing the hdd, turning off the console and then turning the machine back on fixed it, which it did, however as soon as I reconnected the hdd and turned off/on again the message is back, so it's weirdly something to do with the hdd, I wonder if is looking for the GoT disc even though it's a digital copy, which gives me an idea, I'll play a disc based PS4 game and see what happens...

Ahh the unsupported disc thing, I think it's because Cyberpunk is a PS4 game and it's looking for it on the HDD when I installed it on the internal SSD for obvious reasons, I'll do some more testing tomorrow but it's a bit annoying that it only started after playing Ghost off the HDD, I just changed the setting to 'always install PS4 games to the extended storage' option to off so maybe that'll make a difference, who knows, it's clearly an OS issue not the drive.

Some embarrassing fucking shit in here.

I honestly don't understand why these sad bastards can't just enjoy what they they've got.

And here's me PS5-less just wanting to help peeps through PBWT 5-2, again.  :seanr:

Sill can't believe bbciplayer is on this thing, so I still have my PS4 hooked up

Iirc some one mentioned the BBC drastically cut the BBC iPlayer Dev team. It is also delaying the release on the LG CX as well as others I suspect.

The stick drift I have on one of my controllers is really bad now.

I can’t be arsed to send it back though, I might just buy a new one

That sucks, I had hoped the latest controller update had eliminated this issue.

I’d send it back, we sent a DualShock back just before Christmas and got it back within a week. Even if you buy a new one at least you’ll have a spare.

I marked the controller with some tape so I know which one it is.

I shut down over night and this morning I’m not having problems....last night was unbearable, like a child pushing on the stick while your playing with the map in snowrunner constantly moving or trying to pick up loot in Apex.

Strange

There's no chance you were holding the stick at an angle when the pad powered on? Dunno if it's still a thing these days, but PS1 controllers calibrated on startup. You could totally fuck your mate's Tekken combos by holding the analogue stick a little to the side when you turned the console on.

Ok I just booted up and no Unsupported Disc error so turning the 'Always Install PS4 Games to Extended Storage' option to off seems to have fixed it in case anyone else experiences any issues.

I had a weird issue with Miles Morales last night where the only buttons on the controller that would work were R2 and L1.

Except when I wanted to do L2 and R2 together or L1 and R2 together then those worked.

X would only work in the air, no Square or Triangle or Circle.

Everything worked on the dash and in other games.

Ended up loading an earlier save and they all worked again. Weird.

I’ve had almost the same issue a few times, only in Assassins Creed Odyssey on the PS4. That doesn’t help you, but I wonder if there’s some middleware that causes it.

That would be totally weird but maybe I’ll try.

Likemi say , zero issues here today with the ‘bad’ controller.

I did have the Ps5 start up without sound but that’s a daily thing.

My other folder is now 83 gig :S

Fuck it's back and I've only played Cyberpunk, god damn it.

My PS5 has become close to unusable if I suspend a game and try to navigate around the dashboard, it’s like worse than PS4 levels of unresponsive when trying navigate around. It did this about a week or so ago and a reboot seemed to fix it but it’s back again. Anybody else had this or is my

PS5 borken?

As someone who hasn't tried the controller yet, this is interesting to read.

I remember before the switch came out/immediately after launch the media hype merchants and early adopters were making out like the joycon's "hd rumble" was some totally gamechanging and revolutionary advancement, claiming that it made you think you were holding some specific object (not a joycon) in your hands etc, when in reality it's genuinely rubbish and nobody even mentions it anymore.
