Sony have asked me to send them my console to look at.

In #fangate news, here's a French site finding that their retail-purxhased unit has a fan with less blades than their review unit, and is noisier; they apparently tore down five units and no two had the same fan model! So maybe the noisy fan issue will be resolvable with a simple swap to a 23-blade fan instead of a 17-blade one.

Just a quick update on this. I managed to be lucky and grab a new unit from Argos when they had stock.

Unfortunately the exact same noise as the original console for me. It definitely seems luck of the draw to whether the fan runs 'whisper quiet' or audible.

It does mean that I'm going to have a spare console if any rllmuker wants it before I send it back to Amazon? Obviously disclaimer that it's not a whisper quiet unit, but may help someone before Xmas. Would be collection only from near Oxford.

My digital one finally arrived from amazon yesterday and as someone who totally skipped the 4 i'm quite impressed.

Obviously wasn't prepared for the size and did wonder if should have got the disc one (managed to bag both but decided to keep the digital) but for what I use it for I think I made the right choice and as the disc one is not symmetrical it would play on my OCD! Plus as PSN thinks I live in the galatasaray stadium, games aren't that badly priced either and PS Plus was only 23 quid.

I may "move" to Indonesia soon though as they're even better prices there.

Finally managed to get an official headset ordered from Amazon Germany.

I’m pretty happy with mine though it remains to be seen how good voice audio is - other players voices in overwatch seemed pretty quiet but I haven’t played it in comp yet where people are talking properly. The mic seems very sensitive and registers input very easily but I’m not sure if others can hear it.

On that note, you’ll have to briefly disconnect the headset on astrobot for blowing on the mic, it won’t work fully on the headset.

Has anyone successfully connected PS VR & Camera with a hub? If so, which one?

I intend to leave VR permanently connected & an external SSD, and don’t want to run cables around to the front of the console like I have to with the PS4.

Yes. Don't come close to my previous Sennheiser's (and now DT 1990 Pros with Arc mk2 amp)but wouldn't expect them to the latter at that price. Both on PC mind.

The artic pros sound ok but the build quality and whole overall experience are just not that great, they cut corners imo. But this is more more for the headphones thread.

Just interested in the official ones as seen wildly varying opinions on them. Sennheiser keep threatening to make console specific headphones but have still yet to produce anything. I'd be all over that if they did.

Looked at Audeze Penrose?

I needed an upgrade from my PS4 Gold headset since the coating on the ear pads is peeling off and falling to bits.

If that's you're only reason for upgrading, there are replacement ear pads on amazon for a bit over £10, just ordered some myself.

Mentioned this a while back, but I now have said Sackboy code up for sale in the trading folder - HERE

Quite surprised to have not seen much chat about it to be honest. It's an outstanding platformer, and gets really tricky in later levels. Co-op'd the entire game and absolutely loved it.

(that said, Knitted Knight Trial #16 is testing my will to live, but damnit I'm gunna beat that sodding level!)

I managed to get this on disc sealed for £45 today so had a couple of hours with it earlier. Really enjoying it, yes it's very easy at first but the objectives give replayability in a very similar vein to Super Mario 3D World. In fact the slickness of it all is very Nintendo, I could easily see this as a Yoshi game particularly with Sackboy's 'hover' jump.

My friends leaderboards for the Knights Trials is pretty sparse so more friends requests would be welcome!

Will do. I needed an upgrade from my PS4 Gold headset since the coating on the ear pads is peeling off and falling to bits. I was tempted to get the Steel Series Arctis 9 but that was twice the price of the official ones.

As @MagicalDropsays you can replace these easily for a tenner from Amazon. I did mine recently but had to do the head band as well, cost more and slightly more fiddly to do but the ear prices themselves twist off easily.

Apologies if already covered. I've got a few games where I've got the free PS5 upgrade version which worked great, but because you need to use the PS4 disc to play them if one of those discs is already inserted when the PS5 starts up it automatically tries copying the PS4 game onto the HDD and downloading an update; if the disc is inserted while it's already powered on it doesn't do this. It's a very minor grumble and is just of going into the download bit and cancelling but is there a setting somewhere I've not found that will just stop it doing it altogether?

This thing with the pad resistance... I thought the controller was a bit of a cheap gimmick. The speaker is too small and tinny sounding plus the effect of the rumble is very weak. Is it possible I have a duff pad? I mean it's set to the highest setting in the system OS?

One thing I'm loving is recording gameplay with a double tap of \|/* and being able to review that footage instantly on a card without leaving the game.

Get a clutch kill, score a fancy goal, and you can watch it back while it's finding the next match.

I've even used it in Souls when making a mad dash for a shiny and getting the hell out of there, missing the actual item popup, have a quick scrub through the instant replay.

It's peeling of the headband too, can't replace that as far as I'm aware. Could do with something with a longer battery life too.

Maybe a duff pad. First thing I did on PS4 was switch off pad speaker but I've kept it on this because it does sound better.

Are you using it in a game with voice chat, and the pad microphone is set to be the chat input? The pad turns down speaker volume and vibration/ force feedback to stop it being heard through the mic.

I've played Spiderman and God of War, both PS4 games. Other big title was Miles on PS5 with some Astro but its not really amazed me so far. I've been watching the Digital Foundry footage scratching my head as I couldn't see what they were so excited about. Just feels weak.

I did the headband as well. Be careful as you remove the old one with the pry tool as the wire connecting the left and right ears is interleaved into the backing plastic. Also, top tip remove the glue residue before putting the new one on. I paid 20 quid on Amazon. However, there are a couple of different gold headsets, I have the blue headrest on mine.

PS4 games are going to just have replicated old wobble motors, and to be honest I kept my DS4s around as it's not the same at all. Astro should be impressing you though.

I’ve gone to download Doom 2016 from my games library having originally bought it digitally on PS4 but never getting round to installing it / playing it. Strangely it’s coming up with “This PS4 game isn’t playable on PS5” and a link to buy a ‘Playable Version’ for £15.99 :hmm:

What’s that all about? Are any of you able to install it having owned it on PS4 previously? Anyone had anything similar for any other games?

Ah shit, yeah, that probably is the case. Good shout, thanks.

Any other PS4 demo I’ve had in my library is similarly ‘locked’ and I’ve only just remembered that I did indeed install the Doom 2016 demo at one point last gen, which is what I’m seeing here in my library.

Now that I recall, I purchased the full game on sale via a foreign PSN account using leftover credit. Guess I might need to get that old account running on this machine as well...

I knew my PS5 had coil whine since first booting it but it was usual constant white noise when in gameplay (Usual more intense games), however today I noticed when playing Planet Coaster it would intermittently wind on and off almost. Much more distracting when it's not constant. Anyone else experienced this?

Opened her up to see if the fan was grinding a sticker as some suggest, and although the sticker was poking out, I moved it with no result. I guess it's just electrical vibrations when the system needs more power.

Also got stick drift on the right stick of the DS which is frustrating!

Still absolutely love it and have put over 100 hours into it so far, and plan to put many more!
