PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

I took my PS5 out of the cupboard it stays in, mucked about with vertical and horizontal orientation and am now satisfied that there's nothing wrong with it. I think where I keep it, you can't really listen to it without getting quite close, but having it in an open room, you can certainly hear it, but it's totally fine.

FOMO/FUD or whatever about having a bit of dud over. :D

Patience is indeed a virtue that too many people lack these days, I fear.

Agree. However I think the internet and the marketing teams have a huge amount to do with this stirring people up into a frenzy about some "must have" new thing.

Not sure what the solution is as everyone falls into the hype machine these days, myself included. Sometimes we just need to take a deep breath sit back and appreciate what we do have rather than what we don't. However its difficult when everyone is shouting around you how amazing things are.

So I guess its all a bit about philosophy and approach to life. Tricky in a capitalist society in a pandemic I guess but personally going to try and chill out a bit now. Not chase about trying to acquire things the moment they come to market and just wait until what I have no longer serves its purpose for me. Which means I'll be keeping the Series X for a long time.

Let the people consume if it makes them happy. Ultimately new things are mostly empty promises. Its using whatever you have and appreciating it that makes you happy.

Anyway flipping any high demand limited item has always been a thing. Even before the internet. Its just more people have the tools to do it now. People do not have to buy it - it's a free market I guess. Not condoning it but those buying to sell on are always taking a risk they'll be lumbered with an object that they can't sell on. In the grand scheme of things it's the least of societies problems and more of a product of them... :D

To add I don't think this is "morally" wrong. Its just capitalism at play in general. If you start to dig too deep into everything morals go well and truly out of the window with lots of things that happen in the world....

The problem with the official docks (at least during the PS4 era) is that Sony creates a limited single run of them and then they simply disappear from retail. It's actually the first thing I pre-ordered, even before the PS5, just because I was anticipating Sony not having learned anything from the last gen. Hope I'm wrong this time around, but well, that'll be why that eBay price is sky high.

Same here when everything went up on ShopTo in earlier in the year I preordered 2 extra pads, charge dock, headphones and remote control knowing full well that the accessories usually sell out very quickly.

Yeah I'm getting really annoyed with the included ones. I've done a couple of gaming evenings and the pads ran out of juice both nights, right pain having to stick the cable in. I should leave it in but I'm quite hand wavey when I'm swinging about in Spidey and need the freedom

I’ve got a B7. You should still be able to play it in 1080p120, if you’re bothered with 120fps. That’s what I’m hoping to try.

Is there an option within the game to switch to this mode? I can't see anything.  It is also really good with the controller update.

If only Sony let you use your own batteries!

God no. I absolutely hate that about the standard Xbox controllers. Constant faffing about with individual batteries. Got a charge pack for that one ASAP.

My pet peeve with this is that the rumble in my lovely Xbox 360 Reach SE pads disconnects the batteries and thus the controller. Tried everything to fix it and nope - turn rumble off is the solution. AA toxic landfill are the stuff of a bygone era.

How’s the 120fps? I don’t particularly want a racer but I do want to try 120fps.

Just unsuccessfully tried to play 1080p 120fps. Put the console in 1080p mode and had no option to choose 120fps either in system settings or game settings.

I think you have to choose the Performance Mode option in the system settings, where it asks you what you would like your default preference to be.  It’s a bit odd.

If it's like COD then you have to go to Settings and Game Preferences and set the console to performance mode as preference, then it will allow 120fps mode to be enabled in game.

Well it's been a week now with my PS5 and the only negative I have is not having enough time to play on it. It sits there gurning at me with it's massive presence in the room calling me to play... While I'm subjected to another period drama on Netflix, at least I steered us towards the Queens Gambit which is actually very good... None the less no game times make Q sad :(

On the plus side I did steal a round or two of Everybody's Golf on an extended lunch today. It would have not been possible before as my wife works from home in our living room and the jet engine distraction of the old pro would have made it impossible for her to do her job. Instead I have the TV on volume 3 and I can just about hear the fans above that.

Sharpe's on Netflix now, tell her its a romantic swashbuckling tale period drama.

There seems to be a bug with HDR.

Loded up the surge as I was just browsing games to delete from my external. It’s not compatible so I deleted it while it was still running.

I loaded up Monster Hunter but something didn’t look right. Then went into Demons souls and it told me HDR was unavailable and sure enough my TV wasn’t in HDR mode.

Rebooted and it came back.

Jesus no... seriously, you Xbox fanboys defend this to the hilt don't you. Can't personally think of anything worse than AA batteries in a modern device. Stick em in your fairy lights... that's it.

And likewise you Sony faboys defend a built-in battery to the hilt don't you.

Isn't that the benefit though - choice to do that if you want to - to have it either way.

We have been using eneloop for over a decade now, they last 5 times longer than a charge on a pad and it means you don’t need two pads for a sesh unlike a PlayStation - non serviceable batteries should be from a bygone era, funny how the forum says when Apple do it it’s anti consumer but when Sony do it it’s pro consumer

I couldnt get 1080p 120 to work in COD either, my screen can do it apparently but the game has the option disabled and appears a common issue on series x and PS5 :(

I'm probably in the minority but I love Eneloops, have been using them for years. I agree would love it if the Playstation controllers took standard AA/AAA batteries. No need for a charging station.
