Record the sound the console makes, loop it phase inverted, bang!!! Noise cancelledationazed!

You joke but I actually considered just wearing my noise cancelling headphones all the time. My partner would leave me and my daughter would only see me on weekends but it would get Totally Aspens off my back.

It's not even remotely hot. The fan isn't even doing much work at all, it's just chirping away while whatever component causes the coil whine tuned up and down as I look at different things in Boletaria.

I’ve currently got Astro Bot on. Console is vertical and both sides of the console are warm to the touch, with a fair bit of hot air being pushed out the rear vents. The console is making a similar sound to a fridge. There’s a low hum and a fairly medium to high pitched tone too. A ticking noise in there, as well alongside some white noise. It’s all relative though. I have sensitive hearing from years of day to day gigging and studio recording with cans on. It’s likely that I’ll perceive something as louder than it actually is. Someone else might perceive something as quieter than it actually is. That’s where using a DB meter comes in. It’ll give you a fairly accurate idea of just how loud your console is in relation to other people’s.

A DB meter will give an approximate measure of overall noise at a given distance in a specific set of circumstances provided it is done so in a controlled environment. It will be next to useless in comparing specific console noise issues. Consistent fan rotation noise is going to be subjectively less annoying than a chirping fan noise as it causes some metal component to vibrate off the main board, or coil hum from a dodgy component on the board.

None of the noise is going to exceed that created by my TV speakers, but it's an annoying set of noises that not all of the consoles make and therefore indicative of a fault.

A minute ago you were talking about recording the sound so other people could hear just how loud it is and you could do a comparison! Lol.

If you think your machine is faulty then get rid of it. Problem sorted! If you get another one that’s noisy then you can just get rid of that one too and the next one and the next one after that. If it was me though, I’d 100% try to check to see if the machine is any noisier than other people’s machines, so that I’m not pissing my own time away sorting replacement consoles out for nothing.

I was going to record it so we could compare what it sounds like, not some vague attempt at measuring the loudness.

That's precisely what I'm planning to do, and I have absolutely no idea why you are so completely fascinated by my decision as to keep weighing in on it with ever more elaborate home redecoration advice.

My Fully Aspel is annoyingly noisy. Nothing seems to make it shut up. Anyone else having similar issues? DM me.

It's ok, we are all just feeling the pain for @Spacehost & @Fully Aspel is just feeling it more because of the haptic feedback & force feedback in the new controller.

Yep, WRC8 was really good........WRC9 is absolutely fucking awesome, especially on PS5! Not just the best Rally game I’ve ever played but one of the best driving games I’ve ever played.....period!

And this is very good news because it's the WRC9 developer and publisher that are also working on Test Drive Unlimited 3.

No worries! If you don’t want to follow any common sense advice then that’s fine with me! Good luck getting your replacement console sorted.

Just so you know.....I’ve spent many years as a professional musician and engineered and produced many albums and live recordings in that time. Audio is my thing. Just trying to help you out with your issues.

On a side note......

I don’t appreciate the insults. Especially when they’re referring to Autism, which is against the forum rules. As well as being a musician I’ve also spent many years working with people that have severe learning difficulties, many of them on the Autistic Spectrum. Your comments are really not cool.

Well now you've totally lost me.

Didn’t know that! That’s fucking awesome! I loved Test Drive Unlimited on the 360. Just imagine a PS5 Test Drive.......ooooooh yeeeeeeah!

Doubt it mate. You’ve just called me “Totally Aspens”. Pretty obvious what you’re saying. Aspens is even a well known charity that works with people on the Autism Spectrum.

Literally just been trying to help you out and you start throwing ableist insults my way. Not cool at all.

I am in a thoroughly Godawful mood today, so if we could spare me any more helpful tips about putting my console on some levitating platform in the centre of of the room or replacing my ears with ones that hear the authoritatively correct way I would really appreciate it.

I think we all know that he googled that to look for some extra reason to be insulted. And even if actually Spacehost had happened to creatively mangle his name in to something that matched a small SE England disabled children’s’ charity that Aspel had worked with, it would take some degree of uncharitable thinking to assume that was anything but a coincidence. (I doubt that Spacehost has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Kent’s children’s’ organisations.)

In any case he’s very clearly not as not bothered as he’s making out and he needs to take a break from the thread.

Coming from someone that unironically used "SJW" as a derogatory term not long ago, please understand I don't really believe you're posting in good faith here.
