Some of the set-up pics show that you guys have your PS5s in sections of a TV cabinet with partitions (or other consoles) to the sides and a wall to the rear - that’s similar to how I will be doing it. Any overheating issues with that? In the run up to launch everyone was speculating that the fins on the PS5 were there to ensure adequate airflow clearance, but as far as I know that is just speculation. When the series X launched there was talk of consoles struggling without 4” clearance and stuff, people being told not to put them in those kinds of positions etc. so I’m a bit wary.

 

I gather resetera has had lots of issues being brought up over the last week but I can’t bring myself to visit that place, just wondering if overheating is one of them.

This is tremendous though, I never want it end, I’m taking my time. And yes, the ice skating is brilliant :D. So many cool little touches and references at every single step. This is how you introduce a console!

How come Sony haven't bought Housemarque already? It feels like it would be a great fit: they're struggling to be independent, were almost PS exclusive anyway, and you could presumably ask them to make next-gen versions of a pile of really good games that already exist.

Right well it’s a lot bloody later than I planned due to a late delivery then needing to take the TV off the wall, thread the new HDMI cable into the hidden conduit, fit it all back on again, cut the back of the media unit and rejig the shelves all because it didn’t fit in the slot I had prepared. But... we are finally go for PS5 in the little ninja house! :sealclap:

I have no opinions yet other than the start up looked lovely. Currently downloading the system update. However I have caved and bought Demon Souls after all.

They might do that if Returnal does well.

I downloaded Apple TV, Now TV, Netflix & Disney+ There is no iPlayer app.

I've got a 4tb external showing up today to put my current PS4 data on and download all the others I don't have or have had to delete, I guess I'll find out later but if you're using an external can you choose where to save it when downloading? Can't wait to try out the huge library of PS4 games on this new hardware!

I just got a nice bonus that my PS4 arcade stick works straight in the PS5!

Haven’t done extensive testing but the machine recognised it and I could move around go though menus and return to home.

 

thats saved my £100 on a new fight stick!

Can I just mention what an incredible step back the UI is? It's not just muscle memory, it's the way Sony copied the Switch UI, but didn't go all the way. So now unplayed games trail off into a nebulous library which you can sort and filter, but won't remember its settings. At all. You have to resort every damned time you open the library. On top of that, the library is littered with literally every piece of software I touched. I have multiple instances of certain games because tests, demos and full games are all separate entities. That one disc a mate popped into the PS4 ages ago? Now a locked icon in your main library. That one time I had to test Infamous on PS Now. It's a scar for all eternity. Also because those tests and demos are now linked to a single game title, they all use the same icon so they aren't even identifiable as test and demos. It's madness. I've spent a few minutes with some titles, wondering why oh why this title was part of my library. Weird trip down memory lane that. There are still titles I have no idea of how they ended up there.

 

Sorting itself is just... who designed this? You've got your sorting in the top right, but the icon to change the sorting is all the way to the left...?

Wondered where your cloud saves are? Because there's no shortcut in the game icon's context menu. It's also not there in the storage settings. No, it's IN THE PS PLUS APP. As a tiny icon in the top right that completely escapes attention, because its colours are the same as the giant PS Plus Collection hero image you see when you open the PS PLUS APP. Why does this 'thing' exist?

 

And never mind the other quick bar settings. Every setting there seems to have a main screen and a pop-up all behaving differently. It's a bloody mess. As for the cards: TIHI. Just mindless clutter.

Press the PS button (hate it's just a poky little logo now instead of a nice big round button), and in the bar that pops up at the bottom there's an option called 'Game Base' messages and friends list will all pop up in a window there in a hodgepodge. Feels like a real step backwards core game related stuff being squirreled away in sub options while sodding Share Factory has pride of place on the main bar despite me not even downloading it, see also trophies being buried away as an option under your profile picture.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but can someone recommend an longer HDMI cable that will work with PS5?  I have used an old one I had (which I think was pretty decent) but looking at the spec it is only HDMI 2.0 and I am getting lots of drop outs where the screen goes black and then the sound screws up, which I am putting down to the cable.

 

I can't use the one it came with as it is too short for where I need to put the console...

First thing I would do is connect to TV using the supplied cable anyway, just to double check that it IS your long cable at fault

Seems like I'm the only one who's a fan of the cards, maybe it's just my limited playtime, so being able to drop in to a specific area of the game to continue a quest is really useful to me.

 

I've used them so far exclusively in Astrobot though as that's the only PS5 game I've played so far, mainly because it's so good, that and Demon's Souls requires a long session to get into. however, for Astrobot the cards have been crucial for getting 100% of the collectables in each area. 12 seconds from cold boot to get right into the section you want to play is pretty amazing. Also 4seconds (head count rather than proper time) to go from the hub to the section I want just by clicking on the card.

As for rest mode, even my mate has had issues with that and considering his background I can't put it down to user error. However, those who have had issues - have you customised your rest mode settings? It was the first thing I did during the setup - I turned off auto install of updates for games and firmware updates, as they break 'suspend and resume' of games from rest mode especially given the rate of updates at the moment. I think I left everything else on. I'd be interested to know what settings you guys who are having issues are having.
