If you don't have PSPlus, can you *just* back up saves to an external drive and move those across to the PS5, leaving game data behind?

Also you have to manually download each games cloud saves on ps5.

First thing going to do is go in the back end of the Console and just get everything from the cloud. I managed to slim it down to about 17gigs

You can see the street reflected on Spidey's suit on Ps5, just insane attention to detail and way more surfaces/materials than i expected having ray traced reflections applied to them.

Does anyone out there know how the ps5 handles voice chat. You can of course use the controller mic but I’m worried when I play something like Apex online I’m just going to get shouting and hip hop.

Same as PS4, or rather, the PS5 system got spliced into the PS4 recently. The new 'Party' system is how it'll work, and private parties will get priority over in-game chat groups. Every controller having a mic is why chat will be standard now (also why people are freaking out over it being set to on by default).

Hopefully they have an option to mute everyone but friends/party members. I'll never use that because I'd miss out on all the delicious salt and rage but I can imagine games with loads of randoms being a nightmare.

 

I do appreciate that we can just use the Playstation App for voice chat now since I can just use my phone. I don't want to spend money on a headset just for videogames.

Spiderman MM and Demon's Souls have amazing reserve cover art devoid of any logos or text (bar the game name for Spidey). Hopefully all first part sony games follow suit and great if third parties make the effort too.

No, you don't. Press Options and you can select all.

Can you? Didn't know that. So if I want to play online, I can use my decent bluetooth headphones with my phone, rather than my falling-apart PS 2.0 headset? Presumably the app just does chat, rather than all game audio.

Yes, yes, and yes.  Did exactly that yesterday and it worked like a charm.

Yeah the app is just chat, and works for parties across PS4 and PS5. I've not used it yet because I have absolutely nothing to say.

 

I mostly play with an arcade stick that had no 3.5mm audio socket so I'd use the Playstation Camera as my mic and all people could hear was the echo of clicking buttons.

I still remember the Switch being nuked for daring to provide the same mobile chat option and now it’s a wanted feature.  Go figure.

That was probably because it was the only way to do it on the switch - misuse of the word option I would say

yeah I know that. I’m of the understanding though that downloading a game, I dunno, Prey for example, won’t download your cloud save automatically. You have to button press into it to grab them.

Ah, yes, it could be. When I swapped my original PS4 for a Pro, downloading all saves made more sense.

MY HYPE IS OVER 9000 and rising. Of course I was first focused on the Series X because that was out first, but now the shadow of the PS5 colossus is looming and I'm getting hyped beyond belief. Demon's Souls is one of my favourite games of all time and I'm a big Marvel nerd, so those two launch games are perfect for me 

 

I'm refreshing my order page every now and again in the hope it has shipped early, but no dice... yet.

 

Cleaned out the tv unit today, untangled an ungodly mess of cables and janked out a bunch of cables that weren't really being used anymore. Also finally disconnected and packed up the old Wii U - I need the space. I think there's now enough room right next to his next gen colleague:

 

 

It's going to look great those two monsters next to each other Can't wait
