Oh my sweet summer child.

The sooner this invasion of Poland is over and we can get away from all these international tensions the better :coffee:

Of course he does - he's one of the lucky few to experience it in action (Xbox One X at a guess + C9/CX or similar) hence the disappointment.

More so PC/Gsync

There is currently an issue with the screens and VRR anyway so personally I would leave it off on the PS5 for now even if the option was there due to this unless a game consistently dropped below the target 60hz

Easily solved by just playing bright cheerful games. Outrun 3, for example, with turquoise blue skies!

If there's one thing the consoles always missed compared to PC gaming, was there weren't shitloads of configuration issues, patches and technical nonsense to worry about with their experience out of the box. So I'm pleased to see this is now spreading itself around so every gamer can suffer.

Or you could ignore it all and plug in a classic snes

I wonder how long it'll be before the next gen consoles are more freely available. I couldn't justify 2 consoles in the same month so I went for the X. I'm going to end up with both though.

Probably the other side of Xmas. Come January you'll likely be able to get them freely everywhere...or who knows?

I'm also planning on getting both with the XsX bought early next year.

Re. VRR - reading up on it a little bit, having not even realised this was a thing coming to consoles, it seems that most of the latest and greatest OLED TVs have pretty serious gamma issues when VRR is enabled. In particular, the latest LGs - which I think are otherwise thought of as some of the best choices out there - appear to be absolutely fucked (technical term) and maybe can't even be fixed with firmware updates. So is this a feature that isn't going to be very practically usable for a while anyway?

Yeah, it's useful if you have it hooked up to a PC monitor.

I have one of the forum fav OLEDs and I've not using VRR with either console on it. That will be remaining off.

Serves them right for having a better telly than me.

Except it does work, and I don't appear to have the Gamma issues that others have mentioned.

That would be the HDMI 2.0 implementation which may not necessarily be the same as the 2.1 which which goes up to 4k 120hz HDR 10 bit - I've not experimented enough myself to know either.

Its a shame that for recording video in 4k you have to manually start the recording; I'd have to be extremely confident that I'm about to do something very cool if I want it recorded in higher quality.

I think pressing Create to capture a video of recent gameplay saves it at 60fps now though? It was a little frustrating that they were 30fps capped on PS4.

Can't believe it's so soon! Trying to convince myself I'll enjoy Demon's Souls to build the hype.

Oooh, quite possibly. I've been enjoying Deus Ex Human Revolution at 1440p and 120fps - gsync handles any dips. Old school textures and character models aside, the game looks absolutely amazing. :)

Some places were reporting that Samsung QLEDs were having VRR issues too, though I haven't bothered to read into it yet as I've put my TV shopping on hold until the consoles are out and we get proper, testing happening with the actual devices I'll be using.

You can pretty much count TVs in 2020 that have 2.1 and support these features, and, in Europe anyway, they are made only by LG, Samsung and SONY.

I wonder if they are delaying VRR on PS5 as it doesn't work with the XH90 /X900H which is the TV Sony are advertising as PS5 ready...

Someone on Reddit has the digital version of the console already, there is a 11gig in size update for the OS it seems.

Now that is a real reason for concern on launch day.  On launch day, my PS4 was basically unusable as the servers ground to a halt and, when combined with my mediocre broadband, meant the update took about 6 hours.  At least the week difference with Europe and the US will help I guess.
