PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

Fortnite next-gen update.

Quote

PS5 and Xbox Series X players can expect 4K resolution, 60 FPS gameplay, and dynamic visuals and physics; grass and trees will respond to explosions, while liquids and smoke have more realistic simulation effects. Clouds and the Storm have also been enhanced. Split screen modes also support 60 FPS on these consoles.

Loading performance has been upgraded across all next-gen consoles thanks to their SSDs, both in terms of texture load times and the speed at which players can get into a match.

For PS5, Fortnite supports the DualSense controller's haptic feedback features, with vibration and trigger feedback. There’s also support for the PS5's home screen Activities, which allows you to go straight to the Battle Royale lobby of your choice - Solo, Duos, or Squads - instead of going via the game’s main menu.

The Xbox Series S version of the game supports “most” of the visual enhancements available in the Series X version, but runs at 1080p / 60 FPS rather than 4K.

As some one requested earlier in the thread - activities = shortcuts to the in game main menu.

No 'Quick Resume' I guess, just Quick ;)

Just back from going to my local Game (again) now they have sorted our the issue with accepting payments for the PS5. All done and sorted, with all my in-store credit the disc version of the console cost me £75. Lovely stuff.

As others have stated, it's a click and collect system on the day of release. They will be open 8am-2pm on the 19th for people to pick up their orders :)

Did they have information on bundles yet? Anything of note?

I'm glad people are still going to be able to get their consoles, but isn't it technically illegal to leave your home except for:

This means you must not leave or be outside of your home except for specific purposes. These include:

  • for childcare or education, where this is not provided online
  • for work purposes, where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home (including if your job involves working in other people’s homes)
  • to exercise outdoors or visit an outdoor public place - with the people you live with, with your support bubble or, when on your own, with 1 person from another household (children under school age, as well as those dependent on round-the-clock care, such as those with severe disabilities, who are with their parents will not count towards the limit on two people meeting outside).
  • for any medical concerns, reasons, appointments and emergencies, or to avoid or escape risk of injury or harm - such as domestic abuse
  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which should be as infrequent as possible
  • to visit members of your support bubble or provide care for vulnerable people, or as a volunteer

This list is not exhaustive and there are other limited circumstances where you may be permitted to leave or be outside of your home. These will be set out in law and further detailed guidance will be provided.

Surely GAME and the like should just be moving their in-store orders to deliveries to stop people from having to technically break the rules to get their console?

The same page on the government site also states:

'Non-essential retail can remain open for delivery to customers and click-and-collect.'

So think it is fine :)

Also, Boris speaking to the Commons just now confirmed this too.

Not sure sorry, I am only getting the console itself so didn't query it.

Imagine the lawsuits that will happen if big game shops in Europe are forced into holding all these console pre-orders for weeks after launch? Customers will find other alternatives and cancel their pre-orders with them. Though I guess in reality these game shops won't struggle to sell them so...

I dunno how lock downs in Canada work but here in Blighty nothing stops consuming! Certainly not some fly by night mass killer disease - launch day will be heading down to game to pick up the machine, get to school and do some learns, after a quick Maccy D on the way home it will be non stop next gen gaming - just remember to pick up your (bug)snax before 2200 as that’s when the virus shit gets real!

I think as a general principle it’s hard to sue someone for following the law.

Really good article. Richard Leadbetter has made some similar 'pro-developer' noises a couple of weeks ago about it too.

Interesting towards the bottom it mentions the tasks/help feature that was shown in the UI demo...

Quote

“Demon’s Souls,” a famously punishing game, will make use of the PS5′s activities UI, which offers helpful tips regarding certain tasks. Moore says there are over 180 videos, each with increasing levels of visibility into what’s needed to complete portions of the game, available via the interface. Stumped? Now you don’t even have to leave the screen.

I wasn't massively convinced by the Sackboy example but I can see this implementation potentially being something players find useful given the sort of game it is.
