PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

The pc is 3 times more powerful and can do a lot more.

I look forward to playing PS5 exclusives on my PC any day now.

People want the convenience of a console, along with the lower cost and no driver issues and the odd annoyances that PCs always bring.

This will be a more interesting conversation when, say, £600 builds you a PC with one of these GPUs, an SSD and fast RAM, in a box smaller than a 1990s Compaq. (Hey, at least Sony and MS made that last part easier this time.) It will happen, and it'll be interesting to see how AMD deals with that, and whether the console manufacturers come knocking at nVidia's door for their mid-generation refresh. But suggesting that being able to spend 2.5 times as much money on a PC with a GPU that's three times as fast is going to make a significant difference to this console launch (except to people who already own gaming PCs) is a bit premature.

While I can’t deny that the power (and price) of these new graphics cards excites the inner nerd in me to some degree, being able to play the next Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and Horizon games etc etc on day one rather than 2 years later means far more to me than extra fps or graphical shininess.

For that reason the consoles will be my priority again this generation.

You're doing it all wrong! You buy them at launch, you then buy the other console version to see if it looks a smidge better, and then you buy the PC version and wait for a month or so before the patches iron out all the bugs! And then you go back to the original purchase because it doesn't crash constantly ;)

Circle of life innit?

Had there been any news if Spiderman is a launch day release?

There has been zero news, nothing at all. Hopefully something this month they can’t drag this on to November.

At this point looking doubtful? Would rather have a complete game than one that is buggy all to hell.

If it does slip launch I can't imagine it will be by much.

Oh yay PC vs new console debate. It's been an entire console launch since the last time we did this.

There’s some pretty significant technology coming down on nVidia’s side that AMD simply don’t have, which makes this a bit more interesting than normal. It is definitely going to have an impact on games development more broadly over the next few years.

This perhaps isn’t the thread for it though, as a card launching this year is not going to make a significant difference to games currently in development.

There seems little to no point in getting the console on release if everything will get puched to 2021. I'm thinking it's best to just wait until next year but I am weak.

So far the only actual PS5 game delay is Deathloop.

I'm wondering if Ratchet and Clank is the only release game. Seems like we have seen more of that.

I think the reason they showed Ratchet is it actually looked relatively next-gen.

I'm guessing Spiderman is going to look much closer to the PS4 game - so would have risked the same reaction that Halo Infinite got.

I’m 100% in for launch day PS5, as long as it’s not more than £500 (and providing I can actually get one *touchwood), but as an accompanying machine to the PS5, I’m now very sold on a new gaming PC with a 3080. Feels like a real sweet spot for the next gen.

Ill also get whatever Nintendo next puts out too of course.

Multiple Sony folks tweeting about Demon's Souls today, from Shu to Hulst to Bluepoint themselves. It's gonna be a launch game. Lock it.

That on PS5 alongside Yakuza 7 and Cyberpunk 2077 on BC on XsX justifies both console purchases more than enough for me
