If you guys are super excited about PS1 backwards compatibility through HDMI you should check out the PS3.

My BC PS3 is still plugged in. It's getting a bit long in the tooth now, though and I need something to play Gradius V on.

Failing that, use that time to make sure the new console is really good and has shit hot VR in the pipeline.

...actually, fuck....I never even realised.  PSVR will be getting a big bump in quality, won't it?  I suppose it's just like upgrading your PC and being able to dial up the shinies in Oculus/Index/Vive games.

There was a rumour a while ago of Bloodborne coming to PC and PS5. Just seen another video saying they've heard that it's this year and may be one of the big unannounced surprises being held back. I loved it, but it still too recent for me unlike Demons', which is due another look.

@ Mitchell - I certainly hope so.

Yeah the Bloodborne rumour never made much sense to me. It still looks fucking great and the number of people willing to rebuy the game for an improved frame rate can’t be big enough to justify the dev cost surely?

If, on the other hand, it was to show off what is possible with backwards compatibility on PS4 games then that would make more sense and be quite sexy too.

I can totally understand why they are holding back on any sort of new additional VR hardware yet, pitch the current PSVR bump in fidelity and quality as a PS5 bonus, get more people interested, get more games out, expand the base....then boom, introduce PSVR2 next Xmas with a ton of bells and whistles.

I imagine the game would sell incredibly well on PC alone. Them being able to sell it again on PS5 is just an added bonus.

Sony sponsor the competition, and the stadium and all television coverage is plastered with Playstation stuff. In fact they've had the PS5 logo on the advertising hoardings for the recent games so they very well might start running TV ads during that game. It gets massive viewing figures across Europe so it would make sense.

I'm really torn on whether I'll get a PS5 at launch. I think ultimately it'll come down to two things:

How much I want Miles Morales and Deathloop. If Miles Morales shows off some amazing next-gen capabilities, and I feel like I simply can't wait for Deathloop's exclusivity to expire, I'll be really tempted.

if they do anything with their big first-party PS4 games. All the stuff left on my 'wanted' list for this gen are big Sony games - HZD, GoW, Lost Legacy. If those games get PS5 patches similar to what MS are planning for Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4 and Sea of Thieves, that'll probably seal the deal.

Are those ray traced puddles? They look like regular puddles. Or is that the magic?

Maybe the reflection under his arse (sorry) couldn't be done via screen space? The hand clearly could be, but after that it feels less so as you move right across the scene.

Cutscene or photo-mode raytracing at least seems like a strong possibility, thinking about it - more processing time per frame to build up the model.

Do you plan on getting a next gen Xbox at launch, out of interest?

I think Xbox is seriously unlikely for me at the moment (after the Halo delay), but if the PS5 isn't too expensive, similar to you, Miles and a next gen patch for Ghost of Tsushima would probably get me on board day one.

Yes, I think the Series X is a shoe-in. I did waver when Halo Infinite was delayed until I remembered that the main reason I want a next-gen console is to play third-party games at their best. It's the combination of the Elite controller, general compatibility of peripherals, 'Smart delivery' promise for lots of key games, enhanced backwards compatibility for games I'm still playing, plus the fact I can save a load of money on new releases vis Microsoft Rewards. Oh, and Game Pass of course. Even though the console is likely to be very expensive, beyond that it doesn't require much extra outlay.

For PS5, my costs could stack up. I might have to buy a second pad, I'll want those fancy new headphones for the fancy new audio, I might be tempted by expensive 'remasters' of stuff like HZD (we'll see what happens there), plus PSVR would be another reason for getting a PS5, which is another chunk of change.
