PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

I enjoyed the stream. No complete megatons, but Demon Souls, Abe and The Devil Inside Me are my games of the show. I'm not completely put off by the SKU design, but I do hope they do it in black.

The first time I saw the Switch my immediate reaction was - I need to touch and play with that! It looks fun and cool and full of potential.

I think I prefer the functional look of the Xbox to this. I can see why some people would like it but also gside the rest of your room.its going to look a little out of place - probably would t stop me buying one at some.point down the line though.

Nothing I'm terribly interested in from that showcase; if you'd told me those were PS4 games I wouldn't have questioned it. Might be down to the low quality stream though. Hopefully we get better quality versions soon and more information around launch date/pricing/BC etc.

I wanted to know of at least one exclusive system seller available at launch. Was that too much to ask for?

 

I'm still getting one but nothing from that conference screamed out that I need the console day one.

I think that probably took the edge off the over-the-top PS5 hype in a lot of places, it certainly wasn't the PS4-style blowout that was expected. Everything about the way these consoles have been marketed has been weird.

 

A bit of a mixed showing for many of the same reasons as the Xbox one, a lot of cross-gen games that don't look like "The Future Of Gaming" and some that could easily run on consoles two generations old (literally in the case of the opener).

 

Highlights:

RE VIIIAGE looks very different, which is welcome after all those nostalgia retreads.

Horizon looked like the first actual lavish next gen game we've seen, assuming that's in-engine.

Ratchet and Clank looked very impressive too, to my eyes, but this was peak screen pixelating

A couple of very impressive indies, Kira and that Annapurna one

 

Lowlights:

Rockstar trying to sell you GTA again, as a probably premium upgrade no less

That Octodad Game

Godfall

Destruction Allstars being the nth game to try and make their bunch of overdesigned twats popular

Astrobot Gameroom, which manages to look like a low quality PS4 game while not being VR?

EA trying to get you interested in NBA with rendering a single bloke in an empty court, that looked current gen anyway

That Pragmata game which seemed really hard to be ripping off the Kojima Productions logo trailer, for some reason? It felt a bit like those Asylum productions you used to get.

It looks like it’s either nigh-airtight or about to completely fall apart depending which angle I see it from. I genuinely cannot get a feel on it.

I think the whole thing would have been well served by a narrator or compere explaining why the games we were looking at were true next gen material - this is 4K, that is 60fps, the other has zero load times, etc.

If Demon’s is out at launch I’ll buy the console, that simple. That, Horizon and Resi VIII all looked excellent.
