PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

Do you think we will see comparisons between cross-generation games? I think it'd be counter productive to show for example The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 with the PS4 version not even being available. But I can also see it making sense to show the PS5 version just to generate interest in the new generation.

An interesting game to play might be - how late do you think the latest game they  show to release will be? I mean, I'd put money on them showing at least one title that won't actually hit until 2022...

deserves a column in the spreadsheet.

two titles, 2022; 1 title later.

@ironmanps5 on Twitter making claims about dates, reveals etc.

Claims that the final console design will be on the PS Blog on 7th July.

Console will be $499 / £449.

Says Horizon 2, GT7, Ratchet & Clank being shown tonight with R&C ready for console release day.

New PSVR headset next year with price of $399 / £349.

Also claiming Xbox Series X release of 6th November at same price as above with Series S due next year for £100 less.

The most unbelievable part of this is the UK price being lower than the US one.

How did you work that out?

Pound to US Dollar = $1.26, so say $1.2 as a conversion rate.

VAT 20%.

But also any other technology product launched in the last two years.

Don't quote me on this but I've heard this is going to be as powerful as twelve calculators and have wheels

I’ve heard they consulted with Apple.

The wheels will cost extra.

This is bonkers and so is the guy willing to pay £599.

The price is reasonable honestly for the tech (for series x at 599 and ps5 at 499-549) and for the tech market in general ( some people who would spew fire at above £500 would be just browsing the net and using whatsapp on a £700 plus phone) - just not reasonable for the console market and its expectations.

Honestly below £499.99 will feel like a bonus. The PS4 and Xbox One were more tech compromised at launch - they had shitty cheap CPU's even for the time in 2013. These offerings are more premium than the previous gen significantly - esp on CPU and storage which are advanced even for 2020

I mean it's already unbelievable the US price is higher in $ than the UK price in £.

But as pointed out, tax.

The before tax price at £349 is £290.83

At today's rate that's $367.

Microsoft have said repeatedly that they designed the console with a price in mind. I seriously doubt that price is $600. Especially when Phil has just come out and said there's a pandemic on and maybe buying a new toy isn't top of everyone's priorities.

I find all the "people pay a grand a year for a phone!" stuff pretty pointless. It completely ignores how much people use their phone in comparison to a console and the payment models for them both.

And install base is still key. You don't sell 100 million consoles at £400. You push that insane volume in the $250 price range. You can forget about it at £600.

Sure - but you have to be realistic about the tech cost - either they sell at  a loss or you pay for it. Again - the tech is far more rounded and premium than the PS4 and xbox one at launch - don't be under any illusion that this will be in the same price bracket as the $399.99 PS4 based on what is inside the box. People seem to forgetting the point that these are more premium tech offerings than last gen. It's like buying a lowish mid range PC and then replacing it with a higher end one next time and being shocked there is a price difference. The price is reasonable again on what you consider the higher end on a purely technical level - it's just what you  and some others consider too much.

Why do I, the user, need to babysit that? Shouldn't the OS archive off games I've not played for ages to make room for a new game, with the option for me to take manual control if I so wish? Perhaps this is such an obvious QOL feature that they've not even bothered to mention it.

how about if we called it “curating”?

Are there any circumstances where this is not the case? £599 is fully mental and I am willing to stake PeteBrant's reputation on it being nowhere near that.
