PlayStation 5 - Next gen is expensive

I'd like confirmation More Days Gone is in development. Deek and Boozer always had the intention of driving north. Heck, they even could go southeast towards Reno following an event in Days Gone.

If they show remasters of current gen titles I'll be surprised and sorely disappointed. This event is supposed to raise some hype right? How much hype is it going to raise when they say, "Hey kids, here's a slightly shinier version of that game you like. Can we have 600 quid of your money now?".

I think you're going to see new IPs and sequels as well as re-dos. They've been quite good at getting that balance this gen.

I expect:

Horizon 2

GT

Housemarque's game

Demon's Souls

Godfall

Something from Insomniac, either R&C or Spidey 2

Silent Hill

Would cover the bases nicely. Horizon 2 is the big gorgeous blockbuster, GT the racing game, Housemarque's game is proably the balls to the walls action title, Demon's Souls the core RPG, Godfall the MP game, Insomniac's game the colourful title and Silent Hill the legendary IP that returns.

Perhaps the Bloodborne remaster as well. Where there is smoke...

Third-party:

Resi 8

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Probably more, but it could be anything really. From Watch_Dogs to Ghostwire Tokyo to Rocksteady's new game.

Wildcard announcement: the PS5 is based on the same architecture that powers PS Now so not only is Remote Play significantly improved, but they’ve also added back compatibility to all PS1 and PS2 games, and a “significant number of PS3 titles”.

This dream will be scuppered by the PS5 actually having neither CD nor DVD playback capability at all. Somewhere, deep within the bowels of the Earth, Ken Kutaragi laughs from the centre of a flaming pentagram.

Shadow Fall still looks the business after all this time.

And is the only game I've ever played that made use of that "fast booting" technique. Remember how that was a thing during the PS4 press conference? No developer logo, no publisher logo. Just straight to the game. All of the logos will be displayed in the end credits.

I think we'll see:

  • A sequel to Horizon, showing off a flying mount
  • The Demon's Souls remake, perhaps showcasing 3D audio
  • Silent Hill, with environments getting real-time rust makeovers
  • Some sort of GT demo
  • Housemarque's game, whatever it is
  • A new Ape Escape that demos the haptics in the DualSense (albeit not to us watching, obviously)
  • Call of Duty, because marketing
  • Final Fantasy XVI

Perhaps rather ambitious, but now would be the time to make a splash. Could be they lean more heavily on new IP, but obviously that's harder to predict.

It wasn't a technique as much as they had people negotiate a lot of rights and pay off a lot of companies to change their licencing agreements.

Knack V.

also a lot of use of the phrase “launch window”.

and something that doesn’t get released for four years but looks amazing.

(the same applies to the Microsoft conference, except battletoads not knack).

I just want to see one game that will convince me to make a day one purchase. Very little of what I've seen/heard from Sony or Microsoft has excited me that much, from a game or technical POV, but that's partly on me as beyond playing games I'm an absolute Luddite when it comes to the technical side or understanding the potential of the improvements. Obviously, neither side has shown what is to come, so this next month is key; especially because consumer spend is going to be much reduced in the coming year. I know it's expecting a lot but if one release game can excite me in the way that trailers for Morrowind, Bioshock, Fallout 3 or TLOU did in the past then I'd get my pre-order in immediately. I know they weren't available on consoles' release days, but Zombi U was and that convinced me to buy a WiiU..

Elden Ring gameplay please.

Isn't Microsoft doing the promotion for Elden Ring? In which case, it's more likely we'll see it at the Microsoft show next month.
