One thing I was going to ask, if anyone has any rough circuit / car combo competitive lap times (maybe the pole times from your previous races?)  they could share that would be awesome to have something to aim for. I've done some practice races but I would like to do some time trial to get up to speed.

I think all our previous stats are available on simracing.gp, including pole times and best race times.

If you're not a community member on there yet I'm sure @davejm can hook you up :)

Nice! Ta very much! I will have a crack. Would I need to change tyres or anything else to be in line with how you ran sessions?

not really. Get the ambient temp around 20C (ish) and you should be somewhere near - sometimes we were in hotter or colder conditions and it can make a difference but I don't think we'd be able to find out for the practice stuff at least.

Tyres in ACC are pretty simple in a way, you are on either dry or wet and always aiming to get them to the right pressure. No messing around with inters.

Also if our results go back far enough they might pre-date some game updates where the physics and tyre model changed, which added 1.5s or so to every laptime on average. We may look like we got worse, but it's fake news!

Would love to jump on a session with you all. I had a quick go round Silverstone last night and my times were 10 secs off those in your practice sessions on the site! I'm assuming fuel + setup etc etc plays a big part because my lines were not bad (I've done a lap or two around there).

I did find it a bit annoying in that as soon as I tried to push the car would say nope. There doesn't seem to be much of a grey area where you can go over the limit and gather it up, pull it back from the edge without losing bucket loads of time. Example: into Copse. Go in even slightly hot and the car wants to swap ends and it's all over the place.

Are you all racing in cockpit view? Obvs bumper cam is easier / faster but not as immersive. I did hook up my quest 2 but it felt buggy as hell so I've not tried again yet.

Snappiness and force feedback warning and feel depend a lot on car and its setup and your settings. Some are easier to drive and understand than others. Try say BMW M4 or Aston V8, make sure your FFB gain is low enough that it doesnt clip(the gray bar bottom left under gear and such is FFB, if it flashes red it clips and you lose detail) and you can try to increase caster to strengthen wheel centering force.

@mexos Erik is right - if you're in the Porsche 911 for example, then you're setting yourself up for some pain (also some fun, it's my current ride). I do find the GT3s in this game are fairly brutal compared to anything else I've driven, that cutting edge is really narrow. Even now, when we move to a new track I'll often spend my first ten or so practice laps insisting that the stupid thing is impossible to get around at any sort of speed without crashing. The 'safe' setups are usually a bit harder to spin but it's always on the agenda and I sometimes find them counter-intuitively hard to drive because they tend towards understeer.

Get your tyres (assuming dry) to about 27.5-27.8 psi after 3 laps and that helps an awful lot, that's the sweet spot for performance. And cockpit view all the way, it hadn't really occurred to me that there's any other way! But I play exclusively in the Quest, it's just too immersive to not, despite how frustrating it was to get working properly and all the controls set up etc.

Watch this video by one of the developers, and gain a whole new way to pronounce "coast":

He has a lot of useful stuff on his channel actually.

Or I can create anything for you if you can't be bothered to faff around :D

In the spirit of learning the game we probably ought to have a go!

I'll see if I can hop on the practice server and discord later on tonight if anyone fancies it. I am not great at the track.

I just hopped on for a quick blast - have had a couple of glasses of wine this evening and yet put in a half decent time!  🍷

I was 0.51 secs up on my last lap and the session came to an end about 2 seconds before I crossed the line...  not sure if it counted or not?  edit: looks like it did, according to rllmuk-racing's timing page.  Smashed that last sector!

Wasn't on discord, so couldn't be social, sorry.  Also, the VR magic hat means I dont type in the chat much/ever.  But  @milko - yeah I saw you leave as soon as  I joined.  I've got your number 😉

Haha, good to see you all the same. And @davejm and @mexos. we definitely have to get you on discord, it’s too hard using the chat box in VR!

I had a 1.59 in the Porsche but let it go on the last corner like a doofus. Then tried levelling the playing field by taking the Aston in default aggressive. Wow that’s a different drive! Would take me a while to feel like I’ve got the hang of that now, but fun to try.
