I love and I hate laguna seca, such a fun track to drive but god damn is it difficult to be consistent. The slightest dip into gravel while coming out of a corner and the car has spun. Hoping to get another bit of practice tomorrow afternoon to clean up my lines and fingers crossed I have a better race than the last couple.

Not sure if I'll make it tonight, I've a RSI injury and don't want to aggravate it, I'll make a call last minute. 

 

This is the first track I've felt comfortable with since starting so would be a pisser to miss it. I don't know Silverstone so will likely be back to square one next outing.

glad you could make it @davadvice1 and hope it didn't aggravate anything? I usually get a bit of a sore toe on my braking foot thanks to hallux rigidus, I'm trying to use my whole foot properly but it's a hard habit to break.

 

whew. Podium in the Porsche and with no major incidents! That's progress for me. In my last race of the season!

Hard work on that track. Mostly I found myself in a 4th place buffer zone of "not gonna catch the aliens, but reasonably safely clear of everybody else". Then @OJM CHICKEN had some kind of incident and suddenly I was close! Very briefly ahead in fact! This immediately made me drive like a dickhead and nearly bin it, obviously. Back to a nice comfortable gap in 4th and being lonely. Then later somehow my pitstop gained me the 5 seconds deficit on @Ian Paskin and another duel was on. Drove quite a lot better this time, managed to nip by inside the last corner and then was lucky that you went off track a couple of times to leave me clear, I'd have struggled to hold on for long I think. 

 

Gutted I can't try and carry this form over to Silverstone now. It will also leave me thinking about staying Porker next season when I'd been planning to finally properly try a front-engined car for the first time. Decisions, decisions.

I had a great race tonight.  Really enjoyed my battle with @davadvice1 in the mid part of the race.  And very happy with getting into the 1.24's eventually too - having not troubled that in either practice or qually sessions.

 

I even picked up 6th place on the final lap as @Ian Paskin span in sector 3 and couldn't get back off the gravel quick enough...

Cheers @milko I'm not too bad thanks.

 

I had a decent start and some good racing with @Valverbut fell away. I have to admit it was hard work, that track gives no time to relax.

 

Selecting the wrong Aston at sign up never really helped me as there was no setup files. 

 

I suspect I'll struggle next week as I'm not familiar with the newer layout and keep thinking I'm somewhere else on track.

Mate, I've done loads of races / laps around Silverstone and I still do that at least a couple of times a race :) 

 

Frustrating race for me last night. Was having a good battle with @Meers for the first half but was gutted to see I'd lost 10 seconds to him over the pit stops. No idea how, but it really took the wind out of my sails as I then pounded around on my own slowly catching up. Which I never did.

@SneakyNinja it seems quite a recurring theme for you to lose time in the pits, have you any idea what's going on? As I said, I followed Ian in there with a 5 second deficit but came out at pretty much the same time as him so... well I dunno really, how did that happen? I didn't need to fix any damage so it was just a 30s tyre stop with fuel taking less time than that. Drove in, switched the engine off as I was coming to a halt, got the stopping point about right so the crew didn't need to move the car to get it on the jacks. It doesn't feel like there's all that much time to win or lose in there really.

You're right, it does seem to happen quite a lot. From my point of view, it seemed pretty much the same as you describe so it's probably a combination of things like me being too cautious on pitlane entry, too slow turning the engine off etc. I might get the stopwatch out and time my total pitstop to compare with others on the replay.

I think Erik posted some tips in here way back, but I hit the ignition switch just before I hit the brakes for the stop so I'm already engine-off as I arrive. And then once up on the jacks you can turn the ignition back on, and finally be holding down the starter as the car comes down again. I've always assumed that was marginal gains though. I do try to slightly err on the side of caution getting my speed down to the limit because the drive-through penalties are so painful if you're a little late on it.

The first 15 mins it was a great race with @Arthisins unfortunately I hit the sausage on the inside of 4 and my inner ken block came out, absolutely gutted because I really felt like I had the pace to win this time. @davadvice1dont worry we've all picked the wrong car for a race at least once and been confused when the perfect setup is completely gone.

If you dont hit the box but pitcrew has to move the car thats 2-3 seconds lost right away. So practice boxing so you know which line in the virtual or real lollipop to use as reference. For whatever reason the virtual lollipop's position relative to box seems to vary a bit so you need to make sure you use the correct position every time you go to a new track.

 

I just let the engine stall when I stop in the box. Engine can be started when theres 1 second to go and that will often win at least that much if nobody else does it.

The Ferrari is clicking with me here for some reason. I'll see if it's faster than the M4 throughout the week.

 

It's the last race of the season, and it will also be my last race before the house move, so I won't join the next season until I'm properly set up in the new house (prolly around Christmas time).

after the usual few laps of "how am I supposed to do Maggots/Becketts it's impossible" I'm enjoying trying to get the Porsche to go fast around Silverstone. 1.59.5 but I can find 0.25 better than that in the first corner alone so plenty more to get and 1.58.x should be doable. But all wasted 😢

Since I can't race tonight (rig a bit too big to bring with me to Germany) and defend my position, would anyone care to send it into Meers at T1 in exchange for a bag of Haribo? I'll have missed two races this season after tonight so no cover at all for my bad nights at the track!

I've been watching vids of this game cos it keeps on coming up in my feed, usually people with actual real dashboard setups driving amongst real-world traffic, and leaving me wondering if it was real or not.

 

I've looked at comparison sites between this and Gran Turismo, and the genera gist seems to be that this is more realistic than that game.  Correct?

 

It's an old game now, right?  Is it still worth getting?

@Smoothy you are seeing Assetto Corsa (with mods for roads, traffic and other stuff), not Assetto Corsa Competizione. Different games. AC is very cheap now as it's pretty old, but still well worth having. ACC is only simulating GT3 and 4 (and some others but anyway, a narrow field) and does not have mods.

 

If you've got a PC and a bit of patience for learning how to get AC running with mods then I'd say go for it. There's a content manager app which makes the mods relatively straightforward but still a bit intimidating to start with.
