Assetto Corsa Competizione | Season 14 Round 3 | GT3 Sprint @ Valencia

All good stuff, cheers chaps.  Let's be mindful that the format we've been following is working (regular league racing with a few off/mid season fun races) and not vary too much.  There are some things that clearly work well; such as the sprint vs endurance racing from week to week.  Some prefer sprint, some prefer endurance; so I think it's cool how we do it now.  It caters for all.

But based on the suggestions so far I think there could be a few things to vote on:-

  • Whether to switch back to one class; and if so which to go with.  Or have 2x shorter seasons back to back for each class
  • Potential change to pit stop rules (enforced tyre change, for example)
  • Whether to extend the qualifying session time
  • Whether to introduce something new to spice things up; such as an enforced car change
  • Whether to have more mid season races?

- Picking the track/conditions at random just before practice on thursday? (removes the whole taxing practicing issue, I'm getting a bit fatigued about it as well)

- High variability weather more often. That Paul Richard race comes to mind when we all pitted for dries and @Valver won heroically sticking to his wets if I remember correctly

I really like these two ideas!

I like this race evening once a week thing. Its not too serious so I dont need to practice every day and I can skip races. If races were only every 2 weeks it would suck hard to wreck or have technical issues, or to miss a race.

I will swap cars but I will see what others pick first and then pick one that isnt driven by more than one other driver, max.

There will definitely be racing every week, it's just whether we introduce more non-league races into the mix (one off single car races, Assetto Corsa races etc).   Personally, I like the balance that we have in that regard (a couple of off-season weeks, then a couple of mid-season breaks).

I'm not sure about this. I have setup and pressures dialed for one or two conditions for almost all tracks, but I dont think most have. Many tracks are quite difficult and I'm sure there are some many havent driven yet.

It would at minimum require everyone to be able to join and practice 30 min or so before qualifying starts, extending time needed from around 1 h 30 min(quali, session ending, pre-race time, formation lap and race itself) to 2 hours or more. I fear it would only result in more retirements and larger gaps between players, but I've been wrong before. :)

What have I started?! :D

I agree we got something good going and too much change will disrupt that! But I like the idea of engineering chaos for the off season races for some good old fun racing :D

I like the current short quali! Seems to mix up the grid a bit, maybe? It also feels exciting, wether I do well or not, I like the pressure of having to get the one lap right.

This was the stated intention when we started the season, too. I think it's fun to have in the mix regularly but I wouldnt want it every race, it does feel slightly like a gimmick. But I love it! (And usually gain places from it)

I'm so happy this weeks races are sprint races without a mandatory pitstop. The pit exit is a nightmare, I try to take it slow and still mess up spectacularly.

I got on for 2 half hour practice sessions today, some flashes of good lap times starting to show but no sign of consistency unless you count trips through the gravel.

I'm still looking forward to tomorrow will do my best to keep it clean even if it means taking it a bit slow.

I’m sort of tempted to try Raceroom again - has anyone played it recently?

I've set my game up again last night and man is it sweet now after the last update. You can adjust all options (except for graphical settings) on the track now, so no more going back to the main menu as was previously the case when you wanted to adjust something. Breath of fresh air really, as that was partly the reason why I stopped playing RaceRoom (the other one being the pay-for-content model).

The game runs phenomenally well on my system - on medium shader settings I can have everything on the highest settings and still get 85fps (on high shader setting not so much, haha). It's incredibly smooth compared to ACC (which on medium settings still suffocates my CPU).

Driving feels smooth and responsive, but maybe it's a bit too smooth. After having found a good feedback setting, it's still lacking a bit in detail when it comes to raw track feedback compared to AC and ACC (I've played with the FFB linearity and settled with 75% for my CSL wheel).

I would love to give it another chance and have a couple of races against you guys on RR though!

Remember to un-register from the race if you can't make it.

do we know what the cut-off is this for this? I'm a bit borderline on account of my folks are visiting for the weekend and arriving today it turns out. Not sure yet if I get away with racing night!

You can un-register up to the time the server starts at 7pm.

You can stay registered; it just shows as a no-show on your personal SGP profile and also in the community statistics.

Ask them if they fancy being an audience during your race. 😆

I've just had a thought... I'm not racing tonight... so is anyone able to get on when the server starts at 7pm?

I can make that easily. Dinner at my parents tonight, and the kids will be sleeping over.

How the heck did I manage a 1:30.0? This track is so slippery and my car wants to overshoot every braking zone, ABS flashing :D

Dave, how will qualifying for Monza race work, is it simply by best valid lap turned on the practice server?

It's actually possible my dad will want to sit in (for a bit, anyway). Only reason I play games is him buying me a Spectrum ZX48 back in the day, rubber keys and all. They're more here to see my boy than me :)

my braking points are so embarrassingly far back from each corner.

It was SO confusing. For at least the third time this season @SharkyOBand @Meershad a bump that let me gain a place, I was going along nicely, took what felt like a nice line through the corner and then suddenly there was a massive bang and I was sliding. Never saw a thing!

ah well, I profited from others' misfortune to gain most of the places back later.
