Ooh that's nice as well. I'd go with that if it's easier for us all.

Adding the real names is going to take a lot more work than I thought, as everything is linked to the forum IDs. 😓

you just need a vlookup to a sheet with the names in one column and the forum handles in the other, right? I’m not an excel expert :)

It's a fun and slightly uncomfortable watch, but very interesting.  A good insight into the coaching.

I've thought about getting coaching.  Although one of the things I keep seeing in videos like this, is the advice to look ahead rather than down into the nose of the car.  This is something i haven't got to grips with yet, so at least I do have some obvious things I need to work on.

I might have another rethink about the coaching if I hit a wall or start to fall out of love for it, but at the moment I know I'm still improving anyway.

I did the Driver61 simracing coaching program like I described in a previous post. Since I'm of a fairly competitive nature and had lots of time on hand during lockdowns, I thought it would be a worthwhile investment. I definitely felt it payed off over time in terms of accelerating progress and quicker lap times but to each their own of course.

@davejm The "looking ahead" topic is the first thing they teach in the Driver61 course. Takes a lot of practice to reteach your brain and I still don't do it 100% consistently either. Their youtube channel also has a decent free video explaining what they mean by it.

That will only show the total for that series; so you'll still need to add up the GT3 and GT4 series leaderboards :)

Technically, yes. But Vlookup is not very reliable, unfortunately. It's all about Index and Pivot Tables to scrape data out of tables, which is what I'm using. But when you add something that's not built in along the way, you'll still have a bunch of work trying to knot it together again.

@davejmI'll have another look at it. I love solving Excel challenges and every time I do, I'm disappointed because it's solved. 😅

Are we able to feed this kind of thing back to the guys n galls at simracing.gp? Presumably the 'beta' bit means they're open to feature requests etc.

I've seen them say that they won't introduce this feature; because using real names encourages better on-track behaviour and responsibility; but I don't see why they couldn't have a per-community feature where we (as community owners) can choose an override (which we do on the manual entry lists with other server hosts).  I'll think of how best to raise it with them.

Just on the real names thing... and this is my personal opinion now rather than thinking from a organiser point of view... I think I prefer it.

Calling people 'Buffalos' or 'Sharky' or 'VapeSim' when you're in-game chat always seemed a bit strange for me... so if using simracing.gp with our real names means we all get to know each more; I think that's nicer when in-game.  The only issue is the disconnect between the forum name and real name for identifying each other... but I don't think it would take that long before we know who everyone is anyway (and I'm further along than you all due to setting you all up on the platform).  There were only one or two people I got mixed up with yesterday when on-track.

Hope I wasn't too rowdy on the overtake @SANtoOos since I felt you gave me a lot of space?

Now I am very excited for next week 😄 Favorite track and car combination for me so hoping to really challenge for P1

Not at all man, all fair and square, I was  overly cautions, just wasn't vibing the cold tyres, need to improve that.

After all my FPS issues I could really notice how I "see" oversteer even before I "feel" it through the wheel. Looking ahead through corners gives you better and more natural car positioning and lines but another advantage is if you get oversteer, you'll see it more easily. Imagine you're losing the rear, and the screen starts "sliding" sideways, the further ahead you're looking, the easier it is to react as you would see things far away in the horizon moving more dramatically than what's in front of your bonnet.

I totally agree, I prefer real names too as I said earlier. And after amending the spreadsheet, I know who's who now as well. Speaking of the leaderboard...sorted it:

I saw someone use my car number last night (I have #15), but forgot who it was. So the game gave me #16.

@daifuco, what is the car number that you registered with @davejm?

@Meers for simracing.gp there is no override for race number (or short driver name moniker).  It will just try to use the driver number that is set up in your driver profile in the game.

Hmm, maybe another good feature to suggest to them?

Edit, sorted.

One thing for me is that the name overlays in game are all like "D.Moscrop" to pick a semi-random example, so I'm like "I don't wanna just say 'D', but 'oi, Moscrop' ain't quite it either!". Once I've remembered a few more first names it'll be easier. Frankly I don't care at all if you lot call me Mike or Milko, by the way :)

I must admit, it felt strange seeing peoples real names for a bit but I think I prefer it now as well.

I reckon once everyone has settled on custom car paint jobs we can get back to haranguing each other, rather than trying to work out who's who :)

Race 1 was pretty horrible for me, I thought I had a great start was clear of a few people but it was my Internet lagging and then all if a sudden another car pops back in which I'm already making contact with and I'm off the track. I'm sorry for ruining anyone else's race with that will look into making sure my internet connection is stable for the next race. I came back out of the pits had good pace keeping it in the 2.19s it was great to at least get running in rainy conditions.

Race 2 was overall better but still quite sloppy from me with plenty of mistakes. It was super stressful seeing @SharkyOB close the gap multiple times over the race and in the final lap he was alongside practically the whole way down Wellington straight and I stupidly cut across the braking zone into brooklands which only spun me thankfully. After thinking back on this move from me I think I was trying to way to aggressive to hold the position/squeeze sharky into the apex and I should have tried to stick with him as I might have had the inside line luffield and woodcote had I kept my corner speed up. I had decent pace around silverstone but my real lack of actual racing experience showed yesterday, its something I need to work on as it will only be a matter of time before I actually ruin someones race and not get off lucky like I did in this race still finishing in 4th place.

Flying the flag of my adoptive country. I'll have to add a 'van de' before my last name to make sure I really blend in 😁

I reckon that'll come pretty quickly. It's a great place to race door handle to door handle, safe in the knowledge that people won't lunge down the inside and use you as a braking zone, or punt you off on purpose.

We've all had incidents (you should have seen the first season!!) but every one was unintentional, and learnt from.

I hope so I've really enjoyed racing against everyone here and only want it to get better.

I may have to subject myself to some open lobby monza races so I can work on my awareness of the surroundings in the car.

No probs mate, it was a good battle and it's just a shame it ended like that.  Just as a general thing, last night you did seem to be pretty aggressive in defending your position, I think sometimes a bit to your detriment in terms of losing too much laptime.  I had a run on you a few times and you went all the way to the inside on the track, which obvs left me no way to pass, but also cost both of us quite a bit of laptime as you were slow through the next corner.  It's a tricky one really, because I don't think anyone should just jump out of the way when someone's passing, but sometimes you cost yourself by defending too hard.

With the last incident, I knew if I just went to the inside you'd have done the same as above, so I intentionally went to the outside then swung across behind you so I could get alongside before you could close the door.  I was really surprised when you came across in front in the braking zone but you've covered that above, sorry about the exclamation on the mic though!!

Not saying I'm perfect or anything!  I was quite scrappy in both races and my pace was a little inconsistent.  I should've passed you into Vale early in race 2 but outbraked myself and went wide letting you back through.

Yeah I really need to think about how I go about racing. I wasn't measured in my defense at all, it was all or nothing and I know this isn't the best way to race but behind the wheel it wasn't even a thought in my head. You were clearly faster than me, maybe I should've let you through to try and follow as best I could.

Had a great first race with @Erik. Tight and close racing throughout, just a shame it ended with a clumsy bonk with my chunky chevy front end 😅 Not used to those huge front engines after mainly using Audi.

2nd Race I got "pirelli'ed" by my internet connection after a good start and getting back into P2. Hope I wasn't too rowdy on the overtake @SANtoOos since I felt you gave me a lot of space?

Its allright. I have killed about third of the grid including some of the fastest competition in a race start so I'm not allowed to complain about others bonking me a bit this year. :D

I couldnt afford to make a mistake there and I had to adjust TC and BB almost corner to corner, very exhausting. Arena section was especially difficult for me, I couldnt get the car turned and 3rd gear was too high, but if I shifted down to 2nd to get it turned it'd kick out the rear and engine brake would make it even slower. I was chasing setup all week and last minute guesswork changes and probably pre-race adjustments for wet conditions just made it worse. Lesson learned, I need to test the car in rain too and stick to what works. I was slowish in race 2 too but with the cars behind me fighting for position it was enough. Cant wait for rainy Zandvoort, with even more long corners!

I see for Kyalami we have 9 participants in  7 different cars. Nice to see this kind of car diversity.

yeah we're pretty good at having different manufacturers in GT3. Not sure why GT4 got so boring, what happened to all the McLarens? I'm going to change next season for sure, I like the Porsche and it actually matches my colour scheme, but it's kinda boring to look at.
