Assetto Corsa Competizione | Season 14 Round 3 | GT3 Sprint @ Valencia

I've created a rollcall and voting thread for season 5.

This season will NOT feature the British GT DLC tracks so hopefully a couple of the guys that sat out the last league will re-join.

For this season the track list will be determined by competitors.  Those that indicate participation will be placed into a hat, and the order in which they're drawn will determine who gets to choose the first track (for round one), then the second (for round two) etc.

The polls include sections for whether we utilise GT4 cars and whether we go with a change to the sprint race format.  It might mix things up slightly if the sprint races feature a shorter qualifying session; because if drivers are only able to get in one or two hot laps the grid order might feature some added variation.

I have also included a poll for weather settings.  Whilst the dynamic whether settings is fun, I don't feel that it's altogether realistic due to the lack of weather forecasting that the game offers.  I feel like there's some value in having set conditions for some races (i.e. for a specific race have light rain) because it enables people to have fun changing car setup for specific conditions which isn't really possible if the weather is dynamic.

I've just added an extra option of 'GT4 only' for poll 3.  I notice someone has already voted (before I added that option) so if that affects your vote in any way let me know and I'll factor that into the final results.

getting closer, @Pockets! That looks easily good enough to join the race.

I had a quick go last night and could barely stay on track, I find Donington really Jekyll and Hyde. Some nights I feel stable as anything and ready to push for fast times, others there is hardly a corner on the track where I’m safe, even if I’m trying to drive carefully.

Haha, not sure about that. That was my first go on the course after 10 laps or so, so could probably get a couple more seconds off once I learnt it. I was a couple lower a few times but screwed up.

That’s my problem really, I can get one lap done but will crash or spin at least every third lap. Once I can stay on track a bit longer I’ll join in.

I've been doing that for 4 seasons. See you Thursday. Don't be late !

Hi All - I'm Sharky's brother, James.  Just wanted to say hello and thanks for having me :D.  Looking forward to getting back into racing after a long layoff due to two small children... I was fairly handy at Forza back in the day but I'm very much aware that the game has moved on since then so I'm at the start of a long learning curve!

A big thanks to Matt (Sharky) for very kindly helping me out with the hardware and his patience in getting me up and running on ACC over the past few days!

See you out on the track :bye:

@davejm - how about a non-championship race before we start the next season as a taster session so @Pockets and others who are worried about the potential carnage can join us where there's no pressure?

I mean, there's not a lot anyway, but you know what I mean :)

oh yeah, we should definitely have a couple of non-league races to experiment and so on.

Yeah, I’d be up for joining in on a pre-season friendly or something but I’m reluctant to commit to things too much at the moment. I have recently accepted I’m too old for football now so that’s freed up my Thursdays but I never know what might crop up.

if you miss a race the worst consequence is that you score zero points that round, we don't subtract for non-attendance! It's not really a commitment in that sense, you can't really let anyone else down. Well, until we have more people skipping races than we have attending, I suppose.

Yep, I was going to factor in two off-season weeks I think :)

I really wanted to get into this game and get involved but I found I was so slow compared to the AI that I ended up pushing too hard and constantly spinning out. I was 8 seconds off the AI when I was completing clean laps. Then in one race I noticed that I was getting overtaken constantly on straights by the AI regardless of the car I picked.

Turns out my accelerator is only calibrated or travelling to 75% input!. Not sure if it needs lubrication or mounting differently but I recalibrated the accelerator in ACC and now the AI are getting smoked. So might be interested in joining some races once I develop some consistency and race craft.

Just had a cheeky pre-lunchtime practice.  Found @mrben09 already on there.  Great fun driving with you.  We were both pirouetting and spinning in tandem.  :D

Eventually I bashed in a 1.28.6 something (which I was very happy with).  I've decided to post my lap from in-car - looking for any tips on how to improve further (cough @SANtoOosand co).  I feel that for turn 1 my line is wrong -  it seems to vary each lap and I'm not sure what I should be aiming for...

I may be on. Depends on how knackered I am tonight and if mrs Meers goes to bed early.

I am racing tomorrow, though!

@Valver If a novice's opinion is at all useful you could get further into the pit exit to make T1 a wider entry I think, not sure how helpful it'd be. You're hitting the apex late in what I understand to be the right place. Then also could be tighter on the apex of the last craner curve. Interesting to see these, is it easy to record once you've got a replay file? I find my car a lot less stable than yours looks on the exits of the last two corners, I'm usually squirming all over the place trying to find traction.

Novices opinion?  You're faster than me, Ill take anything and everything :D

I feel proper cheeky crossing into the pit lane exit as it is - and you think I can get away with more?  I'll try it!   I can see a few sub optimal corners when I watch it back that felt ideal while driving,  e.g I didn't get maximum speed out due to a correction for a mini-slide and so on.  But thats generally representative of how I drive.  As for stability - this is Lambo default aggressive setup with tweaks to get tires warm enough.  Nothing else changed.

Recording - if you have any half decent Nvidia card and GeForce Experience installed, once you've loaded up the replay in ACC, hit Alt+F9 to start recording and same again to stop it.  It will record whatever is being shown on screen...

I'll see if I can do a lap worthy of uploading. I'm only intermittently faster than you! I feel like some cars have better presets than others.

As far as I know, that pit exit is another one where as long as you've two wheels inside the main track, you're fine. Maybe not something to push when we're doing two pitstops each on Thursday night!

I found an autosave of my 'fast' lap so I've uploaded it for comparison. Amusingly poor apexes on the last two hairpins due to bodging the downshifts on both mean I've got probably half a second left on those alone but (tale as old as time) any laps I hooked those up nicely had problems elsewhere. This wider line did give me better stability on the exits than I usually get there however so it doesn't show my troubles there. A bit of a slide coming out of McLean's too, there's got to be loads of time left here for me if I could get it right! I always feel like I ought to be able to go faster round Coppice as well, just don't know if that's wishful thinking or not.

The lap before was a 1.28.1 but I got invalidated for something or other, probably overdid the chicane cutting.

LOL, I think your pit crew rushed out with tyres ready based on how far you went into the pit lane

Nice vid.  Very comparable lines, and braking points, hence the similar lap times

Interesting that you’re taking that bit after the first turn flat out. I find I have to lift. Might experiment with turn in points there.

That took me a while to get, especially the last part of it. Turn in points are key and of course the apex bollards for the last one will be gone after about 1 lap which makes it harder to see. I sometimes lift a bit on cold tyres just to try and be safe, albeit that opens up a world of potential disaster too with lift-off oversteer.
