I like the idea of reaching out to see if any of those guys want to join us.

 

Before I do, I'm on the look out for new server hosts.  RackService have given notice of closure of their gaming services.  I found a couple of alternatives to look at so nothing too much to worry about, but I'll get that sorted before we prod the PowerQ guys, just in case.

 

At the moment we only have until the end of the month, but at least we're ok for the final race of the season.

Was great fun but I had a massive crash and totally killed my car no steering at all so couldn’t even limp back to the pits hence my early departure.

Thanks @milko, it's been costing around a fiver a month with a kunos forum referral discount so it barely seemed worth faffing around asking people to chip in for it.  A few peeps have offered to help in the past (which is appreciated), but I've enjoyed doing all the hosting duties and I take so much fun from the game the cost feels like pennies to me.

 

Plus, it feels like one way that I'm giving back to the rllmuk community that I've been a part of since the edge forum days.

 

It does look like the any new hosting service might cost a bit more, but I'm thinking of switching to an AWS hosting server anyway which means I can do other stuff with it besides ACC.

 

I'll definitely go with a new provider but if i do take on another dedicated hosting service (i.e. an ACC specific gaming service rather than AWS) and the price feels like too much of a hike I'll let you guys know.

Please do - I know Ive had so much fun from your efforts that I'd be more than happy to chip in with any ongoing costs.

 

BTW - Is the rllmuk server password for the championship practice changing back to what is was previously?

Yes. Just set a time on Donington. It's not easy whilst not being fit so it's not a very good one.

In other news, I'm feeling significantly better again today. Mrs Meers and the kids (all diagnosed with covid by now) are feeling a tad better too thankfully. Not gotten rid of all symptoms yet so I'm still at home.

And I can't believe you still remember we did a classic racing series. Details like that are long gone from my aging memory (only 2GB of RAM). But I still remeber us doing a Datsun series at some point. That shit was mental. A-class tuned I think they were. Bonkers!

Night is that server glitch I got the other week, you log out and log back in and should find yourself in the afternoon or something like that. I had about 17C I think. I know some places I still have time to find... if I have time to do it. Not sure it'll be as much as needed to catch SantoOs though, eef.

I remember it now - it was organised by RichXM. Cars were slidey as hell but loads of fun to drive. Look at everyone overshooting the corners, hahaha!

I did suspect that might be the case.  Was quite happy doing some laps at night though, as I was putting the new VR headset through its paces.

It's great, basically a proper high res monitor strapped to your face.  No screen door and everything seems to run almost as well as on my Rift S due to not needing to super sample anymore.

Managed to get one at just under RRP from Ebay.  Second hand but the guy had clearly hardly used it.

Interesting, I thought they were meant to be quite sapping on the old frame rate due to the resolution but considering my Quest is basically an ACC unit with occasional jaunts into deskbound things like Flight Sim and Star Wars, I do find a better display would better suit me than the cordless tech.

It is definitely more taxing, but not as much as you might think due to being able to sack off super sampling.  If your card is as good or better than mine (2070 Super) you shouldn't have any issues running ACC on a Reverb G2.

 

I haven't got round to trying Flight Sim yet and I'd completely forgotten about SW Squadrons; really looking forward to giving both of them a go!

3080FE so yeah, pretty hot on the graphics, my CPU is perhaps getting a little long in the tooth however. 

 

Eh, it doesn't really matter yet, I need to not be spending money. I think I'm gonna wait and see what the next version has in store, hopefully it'll be a big leap, whether that Quest 3 or another.

4k with OLED lenses would be the next big upgrade I think.
