2.3 seconds between 1st and 2nd is shocking. I'll give it another try tonight as I couldn't find the pace yesterday.

So far, the SSD cleanup (~80GB) and the reinstall has done wonders to ACC's performance on my system. 70-75fps in the lobby with Sharky and Ben last night, which gives me a nice bit of overhead for my 1080p60 setup. See how it goes when everyone's there, but initial testing in a 25-30 car lobby over the weekend was promising.

The only problems that still remain are the CPU bottlenecking (it's near 100% performance when ACC runs) and the RAM (~90% used). I think I may upgrade the RAM from 8 to 16GB to create a bit more margin and prevent the SSD (C disk) from being used as a memory buffer (I think that's how it works, @mrben09?)

New PC is on hold for now. :(

Hopefully more RAM should assist a bit. effectively when the RAM is congested it writes out what it calls paging files to a temporary area of disk. More RAM, less paging (writing backwards and forwards to RAM), MOAR POWER.

I was under the assumption that most games rarely use more than 8GB of RAM. But apparently ACC uses a lot of RAM too (and CPU power as we already know). I'll try to figure out which type and brand my laptop has. I already found a video on how to swap the RAM (and potentially the SSD).

Good lord that is some shiny kit. Envy! Gotta be worth 2 seconds a lap minimum :)

What kind of delivery time are you looking at?

Ordered Friday, arrived following Monday, with VAT paid online over the weekend. Really quite impressed.

Mounting holes drilled (in the right places thanks to the included cardboard templates), and wheel and pedals all set up and installed and firmware updated. Should be ready for first proper use this Thursday!

Obviously I'll be using @Valver's "Lots of new buttons" excuse this week :)

Wandering dangerously close to "All the gear and no idea" more like :)

The cat loves boxes. He's as pleased as I am with the delivery.

Now to avoid the rabbit hole of shifters, paddles and pedal mods.

BTW, I blame ACC and you guys for this. I was quite happy with my G29 for years until all this. :blah:

Are all the dials/knobs on the rim mappable??

I think so, all apart from the middle rotary one which selects the mode of the optional add-on podium shifters, which have a few flappy paddles each side and can act as throttle, handbrake, F1 clutch etc.

Wow, that is super impressive!!

Love that track map wall art, thinking of getting the Nordschleife for the man-cave in my new house.

Sorry, missed this earlier.

Thanks dude, I'm really lucky to have the loft as a man-cave. My wife got me a full set of 22 circuit maps for my birthday, but I've only put a few up so far. Coincidently, my mate got me some bigger wooden ones which are in my WFH office, that are of the three tracks I've physically driven on. :)

Posted some loft pics in another thread:

is anyone else not racing this week?  If so I'll exclude you from the reverse grid placement for the race.  It gets a bit messy if you allocate the position for someone that doesn't take the grid.

I will not be racing this week.

I popped on the server tonight, despite not being free tomorrow evening, for a quick practice  I decided to just run in 2D, rather than sort out my VR settings and headset, as I was pushed for time.  Wow, what a difference (in a bad way)  I was so much slower - I don't think I troubled an apex all session.  Not being able to look into corners, or have any sort of depth perception made a huge difference in feeling like I was driving.  Despite my Rift being a low rez blurry mess relative to my monitor, I really missed the immersion.

Have fun tomorrow - hopefully someone else can take up posting highlight reel duties...

Thanks for coming to my TED talk :hat:

Right, I'll try and get in tomorrow I think. It's going to be pretty slow and bad, I don't know these tracks at all and half an hour of each tonight has not been enough to be "dialling in" or indeed "completing a valid lap ffs" but never mind, I'll enjoy figuring it out as I go. I hope. At least I vaguely remember the Porsche from last time out in these GT4s.

Morning guys.  Hope you're ready for some GT4 action at Suzuka and Imola! :)

  • Server is configured with the reverse grid positions based on current league standings.
  • I think that anyone else joining start at the back of the grid in the order that they join the server, but I'm not 100% sure.
  • Race length is set to 30 minutes
  • I'll start the server around 6pm
  • I envisaged the timings to look something like this:-
    • Race 1 start:
      • 20:15 - 20:45
    • Race 2 practice:
      • 20:45 - 21:00
    • Race 2 start:
      • 21:00 - 21:30
  • After the first race @SharkyOB will re-configure the server for Imola then manually skip to the race session at the appropriate time.

Some practice timings from the server...

Has anyone worked on a setup for Imola?  I haven't and I'm minded to make it a rainy one.

I'm gonna work on one before the race tonight in an offline session. It's going to be a copy n paste from my Suzuka one I think. In case of rain I'll load the default wet setup.

Gonna be joining but cutting it real fine due to delays in the youngin's bedtime routine at Milko Towers. This should be fun, don't know the track, no setup and no time to figure out any kind of tire pressure!
