Just watched a bit more of the full replay - and the @SneakyNinja pit exit incident I had, unfolded totally differently to how it felt in the heat of the moment.  It was all a result of  @Meers spinning at the exit of turn 1.  Makes for an interesting little clip.  Not sure how any of us could've avoided this TBH

You couldn't. I took turn 1 a bit too hot there and hit the marbles. One of many one-sided 'schmurgen-burgens' I had. Anyway, I shouldn't complain really with my 6th place. And congrats with 4th, mate! I really enjoyed our scraps. Also, mad props to @milko for 3th! And of course @SharkyOB for the win and @SANtoOos for the podium as well! @davejm also had a great comeback after the drama he went through. Special mention to @mrben09 too, you have really upped your game lately mate!

I think Snetterton has grown on me now, after that hour-long stint. It really is rather technical in its layout. And it still has a funny name.

After the race I decided to uninstall ACC from the SSD and clean the drive up. When I went to bed I let Steam install ACC again so I'm going to give it a spin tonight/over the weekend to see if it's any better. I had a lot of sound stuttering issues during the race last night, which was incredibly off-putting. There were also complete frame freezes that lasted seconds (the worst one being when Santos and Dave collided, somehow that's really taxing for my system). I'm so fed up with those issues that I'm thinking of taking a hiatus until I get new hardware. It really is unplayable under those circumstances. Hopefully the reinstall will make things better.

Anyhow, here are the standings after 5 races:

Yikes, it's all very close in the midfield!

Glad to see the back of Snetterton.  It's been my least enjoyable week of practice and racing so far.  That said, I definitely had an off night.  I didn't feel right on the track the whole time.  Just hope I can start to get a bit more consistent from session to session.

Blimey, I didn't realise we came together there, sorry :( I knew you were there or thereabouts so tried to miss @Meers whilst leaving as much room on my left as possible.

Which obviously didn't work as I clipped Meers and ran you off the road. Sorry.

I think that was the beginning of the end for me as my car sustained minor damage but something wasn't right. The next lap I completely failed to make the first corner, which as @milko said was hard to spot in the bright sun, but I don't think I missed the braking point by that much.

Ah well. In order to make up for my disappointment, I've just spent a shitload on new Fanatec kit :D

Holy moly!  Whilst I'm really happy with my Thrusmaster gear, I think that combo is what I'd buy now if I was starting afresh.  The Formula V2 rim is basically my ideal wheel!

Phew! I was half expecting someone to say 'nah, that's wrong'.

In for a penny I guess. This will of course mean I'll need a new source of excuses.

That would be a dick move, and totally incorrect. That's a phenomenal combo, mate!

Well you could blame a certain flying Dutchman...

Good lord that is some shiny kit. Envy! Gotta be worth 2 seconds a lap minimum :)

What kind of delivery time are you looking at?

No idea. It's coming from Ireland and needs VAT applying by the courier, so maybe by Christmas?

The sound design in this game is amazing. Watched that clip a couple of times just to listen to the car.

It was cool spectating and reinforced just how good the sound is. I was watching from the pit straight and could hear you guys make your way around the track on the parade lap. The ebb and flow of the engines was very convincing as the turns took the cars closer and further away from me.

It was also really interesting watching everyone’s lines from a static spectator’s viewpoint. For example, @SneakyNinja took a much earlier apex than @SANtoOos on the corner leading onto the back straight. On the same corner, @extremepabs was quite hesitant on the throttle, sometimes lifting off a couple of times mid corner. If you can make it one acceleration rather than lifting off and then applying the throttle again I’m sure you’ll find a lot more speed through similar corners.

I think I got worse as the race went on actually. The last 15 minutes were all over the shop - being almost a lap clear in either direction and tired left me a right old state! The Crew Chief had just said "great consistency!" as well.

There’s nothing wrong with trying a range of lines and braking points of course. Even in the middle of a race. It demonstrates a certain flexibility and adaptability to the ever changing milieu :)

Thank you for that vote of confidence (condolence ?)  in my "style"

To the guys in VR... I know @SharkyOB we've spoken about this before... the driver customisation (helmet, gloves, suit etc) doesn't carry through from your in-game driver to multiplayer servers.  Anyway, it's undocumented but I've figured out that you can set these values in the entry list file for the server.

So if you do want to change your helmet, suit or gloves go into your in-game driver profile and set it up in there and then do the following:-

  • Browse to C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Assetto Corsa Competizione\Customs\Drivers
  • Open the driver1.json file
  • Copy the following values:-
        "helmetTemplateKey": 511,
        "helmetBaseColor": 33,
        "helmetDetailColor": 343,
        "helmetMaterialType": 3,
        "helmetGlassColor": 1,
        "helmetGlassMetallic": 0.0,
        "glovesTemplateKey": 200,
        "suitTemplateKey": 504,
        "suitDetailColor1": 343,
        "suitDetailColor2": 33,
  • Paste them in here and I'll copy them to the entry list file

@Count Buffalos  Yes for some reason I just cant seem to get the grip right in the Aston. Any tips greatly appreciated I still think I overdrive the car too much.

Have you got the GT4 cars? We have a set of races coming up that aren’t from the newest DLC tracks...first in GT4 and then regular GT3.

Went with the GT4 only idea for this week; as it makes things easier to focus on practicing with one car throughout the week.  First will be Suzuka, then Imola.  More info to follow. :)

I learned something really important in this game last night, which is just use the aggressive setup with temperature related changes only at first, then make tiny tweaks (like, one change at a time) if you need to.  Basically I had an absolute mare in an AOL race at Spa a few weeks back due to running a really edgy setup where the car was very twitchy through Eau Rouge/Radillon, so last night for the final PowerQ race (also at Spa), I went back to the standard aggressive setup and just made changes to tyre pressures and brake ducts only.  The car was so nice to drive in the race (it all went a bit wrong for me at the end, but that was due to incidents with other drivers and me overdriving the car) so I'm basically going to stick with the aggressive preset going forwards.

This all came from watching an Aris video where he was talking about starting with the safe setup so you understand what the car is doing and so you can properly evaluate setup changes.  I have a tendency to assume certain changes will be right for the track, tweak a load of things, then feel a bit lost when the car isn't handling as I want it to.  One of the things he said was that the aggressive setup is really close to what real teams run at those tracks in real life, so if it's good enough for them it's defo good enough for me!  Another thing he mentioned was that an alien driver had recently won a top tier race using just the aggressive setup with tyre pressure tweaks; which makes me think it's a total waste of time chasing setup changes when it's probably you as the driver who's losing most of the time.

Aye, I was just checking them two could join in as I felt bad they were missing out so far this season! I mean, after this week we're back in GT3 but still on tracks that they should have so they could keep racing. Wasn't entirely clearly written, I see.
