I just found out there's a free roam camera/photomode in ACC.   How have I been using this game and the replays for a year and not spotted it.

For those that don't know - pause a replay, hit F7, click middle mouse scroll button and a menu pops up.  From there you can adjust depth of field and all sorts, and also unlock the or lock the "follow car" option.  Use the arrow keys to move the camera around freely...  Take your picture using F12 for a Steam picture, or Alt-F1 for an Nvidia one.  F8 is the games screenshot key, but apparently it messes up any blur you've applied (its a bug).

I discovered this a couple of weeks ago which is why I've been posting screenshots recently.  I've got a few to upload shortly :)

Cascades was a right-hander! :o

loved the “near-Italian enthusiasm” of the guy who waved his arm slightly.

Yeah! I seem to remember Project Cars features the shortened circuit which they still race on with some categories, it's pretty fun

So cool!  Just found this track map which show the old layout with Range Corner:

I'm gonna look for that corner next time I'm there, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the tarmac is still there.

Not sure what's going on with the lack of shadows in mine, I've got the video settings maxed out when I'm not in VR!  Strange.

I had this issue - rather confusingly the shadows option isn't under graphics settings, its in the General box, pick a higher setting for "Replay Quality" I think it was

I've got that maxed out.  Odd!

Seems it is. Sorry, had to check the satellite as I was curious too.

Would love to see some close up shots of the current state of it. I think I took that route a couple of times when I missed my braking point, so it's definitely there in the game.

I offered to share a replay of my lap with @Meers, so I may as well post in here for anyone else that's interested...

I've been looking at why I'm 1.6s off your time and one thing I've noticed is that your ABS never cuts in (assuming that's what it means when the brake pedal travel slider flashes?)

I can't even stop the car, from any speed without the ABS cutting in. Even as I leave the pits and gently brake, it cuts in.

Here's me pootling about, trying (and failing) to stop without it flashing...

I've tried recalibrating my pedals, adjusting the braking power and balance, everything.

If I turn ABS off, the wheels lock all the time.

Does anyone have and pointers? (but I can't see how I can press the pedal any more gently and not end up as part of the scenery!)

I did assume ABS was kicking in for me at times but I have been really concious of controlling my pedal inputs.  Are we sure that the replay is showing the ABS and TC?  My video was from a replay file, whereas yours looks like a live video.  I'll give it a try and see what happens if I do a live lap.

That’s a good point. Mine was indeed recorded live.

Just done a test, and indeed the replay doesn't show the ABS or TC kicking in.  And I just did a lap and glanced down whilst driving and it was definitely kicking in during most of my braking, as suspected.

Brilliant, thanks for checking.

Still looking for those 1.6 seconds then :)  (I’m convinced it’s in the braking as I have to brake 5-10m earlier).

I'd suggest that'd be one of two things:

1.  You aren't braking hard enough in a straight line before starting trail braking; make sure you're at 100% braking when you initially get on the brakes.  These cars have lots of downforce and ABS so there's no way you'll lock up in that scenario, you just need to make sure you start to trail brake as you begin to steer into the corner.  This is actually something I have to remind myself of regularly, as I enjoy driving different cars in AC which don't have downforce or ABS, so you can't brake 100% in those without locking up.  You can be really aggressive on the brake pedal in GT3 cars.

2.  Your trail braking isn't quite right; you should be on the brakes all the way to the apex, then pretty much straight back on the throttle.  If there's a big gap between the two (which will generally happen when you carry too much speed into the corner) you're losing time.  So your braking/acceleration should look like this:

Thanks @SharkyOB

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a combination of the two. Feels like I'm about to go down the rabbit hole of telemetry/motec investigation, as it *feels* like I'm doing what you suggest, but I'm obviously not. Handily some youtube track guide fellas upload their telemetry data too so I can compare, once I figure out how!

I don't think you need to go as hardcore as that, just have a look at the brake trace when you get on the brakes to make sure you're hitting 100%.  You obviously weren't driving flat out in the video you posted, but I could see straight away that you blend the brakes in, rather than stamping on the pedal, which you can do in these cars with no issues (as long as you're driving in a straight line).  You may also have picked up a muscle memory habit of only getting to 80% braking (for example), so you might need to undo that.

A reminder that the first off season week has been delayed, so this week will be Snetterton endurance...

Server is configured for practice.

:hat:

Had an offline practice at Snetterton and confirmed something I was suspicious of, all aggressive Lexus setups in this new British GT pack are exactly the same. Same with you guys' cars? I thought something was off in Donington because it was the first time I had to do some serious setup work on that car. Oulton dry just felt plain wrong, it was like I was driving a lawnmower over those bumps, so stiff it was. Snetterton feels back to normal thankfully, all the exact same setup values though. So yeah, have they not updated the car setups?

What an amazing track by the way! Some tricky bits but so satisfying as well.

The aggressive setup for the GT-R seems to be the same for all tracks, not just the British GT ones, with the exception of small aero tweaks.  It's possible the dampers are different too, but I rarely look at those unless I'm having issues over bumps.
