@mexos all things considered that was a lot less shambolic than most people's first effort at racing with us. My first attempt I couldn't get out of the pitbox in quali and had to quit. That "you need to be in 1st gear for the pit limiter to work" is a good thing to learn before we do league racing at least  there's so much damn stuff in this game that it doesn't exactly go out of its way to teach you in advance.

Heh, well I was just glad I could lap pretty consistently. 8-) I decided I'd just try and keep it neat and try and keep up. Who was in the Lambo? I almost followed you off!

Didn't have the pace for 2nd legit but I recon if you hadn't gone off I could have maybe grabbed 3rd which would have been cool. Took a few laps and I got into a rhythm which was nice.

I had no idea it was a timed event etc. Almost didn't make it. On PS5 we just turn up and go!

Yeah & sorry about my kerfuffle. I completely missed my braking point and was desperately trying to avoid you!

Stupid Porsche ;)

No worries. I got a proper jump scare! What the?! Good job I'd turned down the FFB on my wheel, it'a already tried to break my thumbs when crashing in GT7. Thing is small but it has powaar.

The black Lambo was me!  I lost it in that chicane and speared off into the wall.  I damaged my suspension and on the following lap or two I had the turn in ability of a barge.  So I had to pit and get repairs - coming out in last coz' that took a while.

It wasn't a great start either, @milko edged ahead of me before the start line and just cleared off as the lights dropped.  I felt very stupid 😆

The highlights video doesn't show my crash...  but it has @SneakyNinja's "moment"

Great fun tonight - a nice short impromptu race - just what I needed.

Yup enjoyed that. It took me literally until 1 min to go and the last possible lap of quali to stop trying to drive it like I was in the Aston, I could not do a lap at all! Scraping 3rd was better than expected with that one shot, then with @SharkyOB  losing pole to whatever weird VR glitch that was, up to second for the green light… or in fact first. @Valver seemed to be going at about 30mph when we got into the 43mph zone, I was well under the limit but still found myself leading as we crossed the start line. Most odd. A slightly nervous first lap and then I sailed away into the sunset serenely, the car was great and I had a 30-odd second lead by the closing laps. Then I lost it at Beckett’s, lost it a bit at Stowe (Tokyo drift!), nearly lost it at Abbey, lost it at Village…my tyres were suddenly all red, 10-15 seconds dropped and the final lap a more tense cautious affair than I’d been expecting. But a chequered flag! I should’ve enabled ranking. And I should go that fast in league races.

@SharkyOBare you running the reverb g2? @davejmhad some complicated settings to get that running nicely with OpenXR.

Yeah, I'm using Open Composite which is a tool that bypasses Steam VR so it runs a little better, and then with the Open XR toolkit I'm doing foveated rendering which lowers the resolution at the sides of the headset in favour of extra resolution and clarity in the middle.  Looks amazing!

Amazing!  Could you talk me through that at some point Dave?  Using my new card with VR seems to be causing issues with the menus in ACC; it'll start glitching then eventually crash to blue screen in the headset which closes SteamVR and the Mixed Reality Portal.  Seems to be ACC specific and only happens in the pause menu, i.e. not while in the main menus or while driving.

PS.  Loved being back tonight, doubt it'll be regular but it's nice to know I can drop in now and then and be somewhere near my old pace :)

Yep of course, will do.  What card you got now?

4090 😅

This gave me a proper laugh.

After all who the hell would buy a 40 series card. Especially those idiots that bought a 4080.

I too would love to hear more on how you set up your VR. I’m a bit lost with it all.

For Quest it’s different, start the game in Oculus mode and all these OpenXR/OpenComposite/SteamVR tweaks don’t enter into it. Are you connecting it by cable, or wireless? It should be relatively straightforward, the main annoyance is trying to navigate the game menus and controls from within it. So long as you can get to the windows desktop from inside the headset, and can reach a keyboard and mouse.

Holy fcking moly.  I'm not sure you need my fancy settings in that case 😆

Edit: might help with the glitching though, moving away from Steam VR.

Yeah, I'm hoping so.  I was thinking maybe the menu frame rate limiter might be the culprit (I've always had it switched on) as it's a specific feature of ACC and it's the menus that are causing the issue.

I've been using a Quest 1 and lately a Quest 2 with ACC for the last couple of years. (I've got a RX5700XT GPU)

All I do is....

  1. Fire up the headset and start Oculus Link - I use a cable. Airlink works ok but there are minor graphical compromises that I don't like - some textures look a bit more compressed etc.
  2. Within the Quest, view the PC Monitor and open steam, and start ACC in Oculus VR mode.
  3. Adjust the graphics settings within the game until you get a good balance. Happy to share details but the rendering resolution is the key one.

I've tried all manner of other things to improve performance but I can't really see a difference. I've not had any issues either, other than needing a 4090 ;) Certainly no reliability problems.

Oh, and if you've not get it yet, Crew Chief is a must. https://thecrewchief.org/ If you're not familiar, it runs in the background hoovering up ACC game data and talks to you as if it were your crew chief in the pits. And there's a spotter who tells you when cars are nearby. It does LOADS and is worth looking up some yootubes get the gist.

Wow, that display sounds awesome.  When I first dabbled in VR and got over that initial 'wow' factor relating to immersion, it did take me a while to accept having to give up the high resolution pancake mode looking so crisp and clear.   And that was going from a 34" ultrawide.

I'd love a 38" monitor like that behind my rig.  I almost bought a LG OLED C2 42" during black friday, but that would have meant looking into extra mounting options which seemed tricky.
