What happened in the start? Two races in a row I’ve been fortunate to pick my way through some crashes, this time from a shit qualification of 9th up to 4th. Hung around there for ages unable to do more than tread water with a 3-4s gap either way. Eventually was among the last to pit so found myself briefly in first place and going fairly quick. Pitted and came out narrowly second but lost the place while my tyres were coming to pressure still. Had a good battle for the rest of the race, then the leader (Whacky Teddy, is he on here?) ate the Bad Sausage so suddenly I was back in second place again. He caught us up and did me with a colossal dive bomb/very brave manoeuvre -need to check the replay to decide- on the Crocodiles in the last lap, frankly I was relieved just to come out of that in one piece for third place. Maybe I should’ve done a more defensive line there.

So yeah, fairly serene for me but it sounded like tougher times again for everybody else? This kind of luck won’t last I’m sure.

Upload of the highlights.

Was a bit of a messy night for me, rookie mistake and went into the back of @Meers early in the race which put us right at the back. Had decent pace in clean air pity we didn't get to fight in the pack ahead. 😕

Edit:

Here is a clip of my 1st degree murder against Meers

And a battle I had with one of the new guys.

I slipped past the first lap fuckery as well and got P7. I managed to keep up with Dave, but Cillian and Yannick were breathing down my neck. I was a bit knackered from working in protective clothing all day (in 30°C conditions) so I lost my focus later on in the race and drove all by myself after my pit stop.

The bang made me jump out of my seat, I didn't expect it at all. Thought I didn't do anything out of the ordinary (such as braking too soon or moving under braking) and the replay showed I didn't (which was my worry at first). I thought it was a divebomb but looks like a racing incident looking at that clip. Unfortunate mate, it's just one of those things. 😕

You were faster than me, so you deserved that pass. Sorry for holding you up for that long.

It's really tight now for the podium, @SneakyNinja! Can't catch @milko anymore (Unless he scores no points and I finish 4th or higher, so slim chance).

Server is configured for Suzuka practice :)

Already got Vietnam flashbacks of the 12h rain race I did there last summer - in the Audi, too 😱

Last night was good, although too inconsistent. I managed to sprinkle in a few errors here and there, which I'm not too happy with, but all things considered, P5 is not a bad finish at all. Had to play catch-up right from the start - not blaming anyone as there was nothing they could do as I was trying to avoid an accident right in front of me. That netted me nine seconds of repairs, which I didn't take as the car felt okay and I don't think I would've gotten the time back on the track. Still hoping for an incident-free race at Suzuka though :D

You were driving perfect at that point in the race. I broke at the point I would have if I was in clean air, I should've braked slightly early knowing you were ahead, it's a heavy braking point and you always close in on the car in front under braking like that. I know these things but for what every reason trying to chase you down I didn't put it into practice.

Ah I didn't deserve the pass, you deserved a clean fight and you didn't hold me up, just gave me a good fight. That's why I'm racing here with you guys.

 Bro hug time then! Thanks for the kind words and indeed, that makes this league so good.

It's incredible that I managed to get a decent pace at all in the beginning, considering my hot work day. The loft was also steaming hot after a while, even with 2 fans next to me and the Velux© window wide open. Desktop PCs generate a lot more heat than laptops! 😓

gah, my replay didn't save somehow. If anyone's got a decent angle of the last lap I would quite like to review that and see if I could've done better - the highlight unfortunately starts about 2 seconds after it's all over and we're heading down to the finish.

@Valver @SneakyNinja how are you guys feeling today, any better yet?

It was horrible yesterday, felt more like Florida than the Netherlands.

I have the full replay saved, not sure if I will have a chance today to record it but will definitely be able to do it tomorrow if know one else has it.

Thanks for asking - still coughing and spluttering. Annoyingly I seem to start the day off 'ok' then go rapidly downhill after lunch, so I feel better now than I did last night, but will have to wait and see.

It'd better clear up soon as we're off to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Sunday!

Never been to Florida but I'll take your word for it.

And today it's 20°C again and rain.

Thanks for checking in on us @milko

My coughing has died down a lot, to pretty much nothing. But it's the fever that's kicking my arse.  I'm eating paracetamol as fast as I can, but I'm frequently hot/cold/shivering.  I woke up this morning in a right mess and a bit delirious.  I had no idea where I was (hint: spare bedroom!)

So that's nice.

Gutted I didn't feel up to racing - that's the first one Ive missed in about 2 years!   I watched a bit of @Meers's stream towards the end of the night - which made me wonder what had happened earlier in the  race to mess up the order .

It was a divebomb, he doesnt make the apex and managed to turn the car when hes already drifted across the track.

My lap 1 T3 collision happened because the lambo beside me lifted and moved across before he had cleared me. I was on kerbing myself and thus couldnt turn more and thanks to the stupid A-pillar I didnt really even see him.

thanks @Erik - you can see the point I stop turning in because I saw him coming fast in my mirrors, I will at least award myself a point for improved awareness as I don't think I'd have spotted that last year. I'd hoped I'd be able to come out of the apex fast enough to get the position back but it wasn't to be. Maybe a more defensive line wouldn't have given him the temptation to try.

I saw you also got clipped by somebody on the last corner, that must have been a frustrating night.

Yeah, it was carnage at the start and I was trying to avoid people but ended up being launched by the sausage straight into you :(  I had 10 second of repairs, which I didn't take either.  Thinking about it; I said at the end of the race that the car felt strange to drive last night, but I'd forgotten about the damage.  So that might explain it.  My pace didn't seem affected too much, but the car did feel odd.

That's inexcusable really. He nearly took 2 cars out with that move. Good awareness from @milko, avoiding a collision.

Edit: We need to get everyone in voice chat really.  Make it mandatory for joining our league.

I had cleared you and was on the racing line but you didn't even lift, just kept accelerating even changing up a gear and drove straight into me.

I'm fully aware of getting too much kerb there on the inside or outside will bounce you across the track into your opponent like what happened behind, I couldn't go anymore left so I made sure I didn't squeeze you on corner entry to force you on the kerb, I was approaching it with a little caution just trying to get us both through unscathed.

I also feel there is a sense of responsibility on the guys at the front of the grid to get through the first corners/lap in a sensible manor because all the cars following end up being the casualties of something reckless and unnecessarily ruining peoples races.

that would be ideal, although I wouldn't want to be too discouraging as the bigger grid is certainly fun - so long as everyone can drive respectfully. At least we've not had any of those sad-sacks who start deliberately taking people out when things don't go their way, seen a few of those on reddit clips.

Whilst I see the point, I don't think making it a mandatory requirement is a good idea (we've had people from here that weren't always keen on using Discord); or that would really help situations like this.

A few of us have done moves like that in the past (I certainly have).   It's a fine line between committing to a move that you think is on, vs a divebomb.

Sorry, but this is not clear and I dont know why you lift there. There also isnt space on track for a car on your right.

As I said above it would have helped massively if I could have seen you better but Lexus and my screen and fov are what they are. I need to use bonnet cam or stop driving this car.

Well I guess you're both right, making it mandatory might be forcing it a bit too much. How about advising it instead? 😅

We make it a mandatory requirement for SGP applicants to also sign up to the Discord, but I could add some text to the info page to politely request that they join us in voice chat too.   We currently have 12 people sitting in the applicants list on SGP that I haven't done anything with as they haven't joined Discord and messaged me :)

As an innocent bystander, but sufferer of previous collisions, it appears to me that us 'mukers have cultivated a culture where we do our utmost to avoid colliding with each other but still enjoy hard, fair racing.

Some of the new guys embody the main reason I don't race online anywhere else, the attitude of - "I'm coming through, either you avoid me or we'll collide - and it'll be YOUR fault.". They seem to think that braking later regardless of the consequences means they are obviously "faster" and therefore deserve the place.

Same for weaving in the braking zone, BTCC-style "push to pass" moves, defending blue flag overtakes like it's for position etc.

The problem is, there are no consequences for behaving like that. No points on a license, no grid place penalties, no race bans, no points deducted... so it'll keep happening. No other racing sim has cracked it with the only real solution being human stewards watching and applying penalties.

It's a shame and I hope it's not the beginning of the end of what we've got here.

(This post is brought to you by the lurgy, tea, and paracetamol so maybe slightly grumpier than usual)

I Totally understand the fov situation, no problem! and I'm not trying to make a big deal here although It's exactly like you said "There also isnt space on track for a car on your right." and you're not far enough along side to justify a cars width, let alone trying to force it at this point. The track veers right, If I keep my foot planted I understeer on to the sausage kerb on the left, If we both slightly lift we both get through, everybody behind gets through then you can line up an overtake.

A couple laps after this I was side by side with a Bentley I think, he slightly lifted and so did I and we both made it through clean, I conceded the next corner because he had the inside line and I didn't want to go too wide before the straight or fight too much so the guy behind catches up and we kept it moving and I plotted my attack for further down the track.

Serious competitions and public servers I get it, I would have moved over and closed the door straight away regardless but league racing should have a little more discretion, I want the guy in front and behind me to stay on the track and I try to facilitate that as best I can because that's what I enjoy, fast lap times don't really interest me in this hobby, just racing!

New word for my vocabulary! Had to look it up:

Quote

(Britain, slang) A fictitious, highly infectious disease; often used in the phrase "the dreaded lurgy", sometimes as a reference to flu-like symptoms
