There certainly is a track in Assen, well known from the Dutch MotoGP TT!

The McLaren is very stable around here, but lacks a bit of power. I can be really consistent in it as it's a very predictable car.

I had my jab last Saturday (Pfizer), no side effects at all -  apart from a sore shoulder.

I had the AZ jab and had the worst flu I have ever had. For the whole day I could not lift my head of the pillow, it was quite something.

2nd jab had no symptoms at all.

I have really been trying to improve technique, and move away from smash and thrash. Haven’t managed to go faster but I know I have at least .5 sec if I can hook everything up.

I hope this will also improve consistency but not holding out too much hope. At least there are no huge kerbs to whack at high speed and ruin my race. 😝

T8 / Mastersbocht has a big kerb where its possible to lose pressure and make the car bounce. You want to cut there, but miss the highest sharp square part.

Jab taken, mine was Moderna.

I had COVID (fairly heavily, still have some 'left-overs' from it) some 8 weeks ago and only needed one jab of 'artificial' vaccine because I still have a lot of antibodies in my system which is basically a 'natural dose of vaccine', they told me. Because of that, there were no side effects from the 'artificial' vaccine because my body didn't have to make more antibodies by becoming ill to combat the 'attack' from the vaccine, as I understood it.

That's why your 2nd jab came with no side effects. You got it whilst you had plenty of defence still from the 1st jab.

I could be completely wrong though.

I'm not sure anybody knows for sure yet. I think I had Covid in 2020 but can't know for sure as tests were only available for the worst cases at that time. Then some months later I did a blood donation thing where they were looking for Covid antibodies and didn't find any in my samples. Then I got no side effects at all from first dose of AZ. Second in a couple of weeks, I wonder what will happen.

I dont think these mRNA vaccines simulate a virus attack so symptoms are mostly because of body becoming weaker when adapting to recognize and combat the virus. And/or related to stress as Im sure many are frightened by needles or getting vaccinated.

So it would make sense to me that there are less symptoms if you just had covid and the immune defence system is already mostly adapted and ready.

I will have to look up some videos, I'm sure there's an AC mod for it as well. track layout looks interesting to drive actually.

I'm told I get the choice between this or the Moderna, doesn't seem to be any major differences to how people react to both of them.

Good thing I rarely get the car to the apex there. I'm definitely missing those curbs 🤣

I do notice around Zandvoort a lot of the breaking points seem to be with one side of the car already loaded up and I just understeer wide of apexes, maybe I need to work on my braking and turn ins around this track

Yeah hence the disclaimer. That's what the vaccination person told me anyways. 🤷‍♂️

Same here, I think I had it in March 2020 but same story as you - no tests available back then. Had the same symptoms though, so that was sort of an affirmation. No blood test done to be sure.

True, you really need a stable suspension for this one. The McLaren is really suited for it, I find.

I really liked my first session @ Zandvoort when I was feeling my way around the track, but now I'm trying to push the limits it's horrendous and I've hated all of the most recent practice sessions.  I think I'm done with it now, until tomorrow.  I don't even feel like I want to practice much before the race, just turn up and hope for some enjoyable racing.

I love it in the GT3s.   I guess it suits the high downforce cars better.  I had one of my most enjoyable races in the AOR league there.

Have you had a go in the MCLaren yet? I'm curious to know if I'm not the only one who thinks it's great around there.

I have. It was my fave GT4 until I, erm, forgot then used the Aston instead. When I tried the macca the other day I just couldn't dial out the rear issues. It was always breaking away under trail braking. I'm sure it never did that before.

I might copy over the setup from Snetterton where I won with it and see if it's better.

For my sins I had a go in the Mclaren and quit after 10 laps when I realised I was consistently 5 seconds faster in the Aston. Realised I did not have the time or the patience to relearn the track in a new car.

I am going to say that I am enjoying the track more now that I have learned it, but still have concerns about space and opportunity for overtakes.

that is space for people to overtake me :)

On a personal note, my knee problems are pretty bad; and in both knees.  They've been bad for a while, and I've been ignoring it in the hope it would go away :(

I'm more recently convinced it's due to the sim racing, and I think I know why.  My pedals are centered on the tray, and despite moving the pedal faces as much to the left as I can, my legs are slightly twisted to the right.  Was watching a gamer muscle video last where he explained how crucial it is that your legs are as straight as possible so I'm going to have a play around with the rig later and see if I can mount my pedals to the left.  The aim being that the brake and throttle are central.  It's a compromise (because that means the clutch will be even further over to the left) but 99% of my time is spent paddle shifting so I'm going to give it a go.

Anyway, I'm thinking of giving it all a rest for a couple of weeks (tonight and the mid-season break next week) to give my knees some respite.  I'll give it some thought throughout the day to see if I want to race tonight (which might be based on whether I can get the pedals mounted differently).  Food for thought!

I hope you get better soon. I have been in bed for 3 days with a terrible ankle inflammation and pain. I have had gout before and not sure if this is gout. Last week it was my hand. I have an online GP appointment tomorrow.

Last thing I was doing before pain started was... Practicing at Zandvoort 🤔

I have the Thrustmaster TLCM and the only real flaw in them is that you can't position the pedals like you can with the fanatecs

Oh man, that's not good. I had that myself when I still had the clutch pedal on, and thus the brake pedal in the center, forcing me to position my (cybernetic) left leg in an awkward bend. I felt that during long races so I removed the clutch pedal from the base and moved the brake and throttle pedals to a more central position. Works really well now and no more pain.

But I'm looking at a way to mount all the pedals out of the CSR elite pedal base onto a wooden plate in my rig. I want to use the clutch (and shifter) again for AC.

Hopefully some rest will sort your knees out mate. Get well soon. Goes to show that proper sitting posture is not to be underestimated.

I hope you get well soon too, mate. Blimey, almost everyone here has some form of physical trouble!

@davejm @daifuco Wishing you both a very speedy recovery!

I won't be able to join tonight as the girlfriend is visiting but looking forward to practicing some Suzuka next week! Will be highly motivated as I am also going to my first ever F1 GP in Spielberg this weekend 😍 If anyone has any tips / must bring items from their own experiences, please let me know!

Thanks! :)

RE: The Suzuka race... I'm not sure if a multi-class race with only 12 people would work.  We could perhaps change the event to GT3 or GT4 only or bin it off and try some fun Assetto Corsa races (which was going to be the original plan anyway).

Thoughts guys?

I just move my chair or the pedals when I need to find a more comfortable position :D

Speedy recovery to you both. My vaccine arm hurts like hell now in certain positions but it should go away in a couple of days. And since I still havent found out how the heck the BMW is supposed to be setup or driven around this track to get any speed out of it I think I'll just take it easy tonight and cruise around the dunes

That makes sense to me. I would prefer a GT3 race but GT4s are of course also a great time on that track.

Such a great track to be your first! My advice is get as close to the track as possible. I was at the 2013 British GP, got a place on the hill by Stowe, good visibility but it was just too far. Halfway through the race I walked down the hill and found a spot in the fence by the braking zone of the Hangar straight and that was unbelievable, just a few meters from the cars, these cars need to be experienced up close, very visceral experience, the sense of speed, obviously the sound, but that year was the last V8 year so that helped.

It's different for everyone though, if you're able to walk around the track, try a few different spots during practice or quali. (though it's probably numbered seats these days I imagine?)

On the t-lcm, you guys have adjusted the foot plates at least, right? It's not quite enough to properly centre it for me but it's kinda close, so far. Maybe you should reduce the spring stiffness a little too for the brake.
