Assetto Corsa Competizione | Season 12 Round 8 | GT3 Endurance at Monza

Hey gents... events have been created for the next couple of weeks.

  • 3 x 15 minute races at each of the new tracks
  • 5 minutes of qualifying for each race
  • Week one will be GT3s
  • Week two will be the Camaro GT4!!

Nothing too serious or competitive please chaps, and let's go easy on each other if there are incidents.  Public lobbies seem to be chaos at these tracks, and many of us aren't familiar with them so let's just treat this as a casual taster for the new DLC, take it easy, and have fun taking in the new content whilst chatting on Discord.

Some of the cars have cool new U.S liveries, so let's actively encourage the use of any in-game U.S team liveries for these events; to give things a bit more flavour.   If there's one you like the look of, post in here to 'bagsy' the choice so that no-one else uses it.  :)

Yeah will do.  I was looking to get it set up on a rotation, but can't see an easy way to do it.

I've done some single player practice on Watkins Glen and Indianapolis already, so I'll set it up for COTA.

EDIT: Done

Here are a couple of videos from our season finale at a wet Suzuka. Mainly to showcase what we have here - a bunch of hard but fair racers.

First one is the start from my point of view. You'll see me desperately trying not to rear-end @Valver, having lucked into the right tyre pressures and being a bit faster on the opening lap. What you won't see is any push to pass, bumping, weaving or other nonsense. It's lovely to behold.

Secondly we have the final couple of laps, where I get mugged by @Yannik out of the final chicane and have a 'love tap' with @davejm and then hold him off to keep 3rd place. Again, hard but fair racing, which is only possible with you guys.

That was amazing to watch, Garry.

Yeah there's nothing like a like-minded group of people with these things, and having a place to chat about it all. We experienced such a thing back in the day with the rllmuk Forza and F1 leagues, and now we're in ACC experiencing it again. Hopefully we'll continue to do so for a quite a while too. It's also thanks to @davejm's enthusiastic organisational skills that we're able to do this.

Has anyone tried the new tracks?  I've just tried Watkins Glen and Indianapolis so far.

Watkins Glen was a little familiar from a RaceRoom race I did a couple of weeks ago (although we didn't use the inner loop).  It's fast and flowing and should be quite incredible to race on.

Indianapolis seems quite technical, but it has enough memorable corners and sections to make it relatively easy to learn.  I guess as with other technical tracks like this it'll be easy to pick up the flow, but really hard to master.

I've had a quick go on each. Watkins Glen is how I remember it, and feels good to drive. Indy.. not so sure. It feels a bit too artificial and shoe-horned into the oval. COTA is between the two, with some nice flowing sections and some technical slow speed bits. The elevation changes are fun in the motion rig though :D

It always takes me ages to get the basics sorted on a new track then the rest of time to get a decent lap together :) but looking forward to learning somewhere new.

I had a go on all three after our race last Thursday. I know the tracks from other games (Watkins and Indy was in Forza 6 or 7, CotA was in F1). Watkins is amazing, CotA is good, but the Mickey Mouse section at the end is a bit weird.

I really don't like Indy because most corners make no sense to me. Feels like they didn't put much thought in how to make sections connect properly to get a flowing layout: "yeah just put a 90° corner here just for the hell of it". Turn 1 and 9 are good examples of what I mean. Oh and turn 12 "so you think you can go flat out because you're on the oval now? THINK AGAIN, go play Nascar instead!".

I've not had time to try any yet, maybe tonight. Indy looks like it'll remind me of Snetterton a bit, all flat and with corners that don't let you go as fast as you want to.

I've not had any time either to try them out, not sure if I will before Thursday either. All practice this week is for the RCI endurance at Zolder this weekend!

Looking forward to the carnage which may be this Thursday. I think I'm going to try out the macca.

Watkins = Spa' 2nd sector + Kemmel and Raidillon the track. All corners are long and long radius, no slow or sharp corners at all. Very fast, very fun. Turns 2 and 3 have potential to create the largest lap 1 pileups.

Indy = Snetterton meets Silverstone. Very bumpy with awkward corners without clear apexes. Final 3 corners are smooth fast like in Silverstone and the main straight is long.

COTA I find most annoying of the three. Its long and technical, copy-paste of others tracks' features and corners put together with many blind corners and seems to be technical for the sake of being technical, not to produce good racing. Being long and wide its probably still a decent big grid track.

Sorry David, I told Mrs Meers last Friday that the championship is over for now so she went ahead and booked 2 tickets for the new Jurassic World film (including dinner deal). 😄

Something something communication from my part. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Ah that's cool dude, dinner out is always good.  Although the film is a stinker apparently :D

Practice times are now showing on the website, but I haven't added any grouping for the leaderboard yet so the timings will be a mix of all tracks until I add in the code to group by the track.  Soon™

Haha so my Indy time looks crazy fast against you guys who must've been elsewhere, I like it :)

I have now driven the three tracks a bit.

Indy, yep it's Snettermerica. Once I started to get some flow I began to enjoy the challenge. Doubt it'll ever be anybody's favourite though.

COTA is like Suzuka, in that it took me far too many laps to get the third competence medal. Fucking track limits! I expect this one to take me goddamn ages to get competitively fast on unless you're all similarly struggling.

Watkins feels a lot friendlier with those cambered curves everywhere pulling you onto the racing line. Quite brutal if you do mess up in a few places so I expect pushing the limit will be maddening.

It's gonna be too much of a faff to re-code the website to group the results by track; so you're gonna have to just have fun working out which is which (although not sure many people are practicing or planning on racing at the mo, it seems).

I drove Watkins Glen in single player and I like it a lot. Fast, elevation changes and old school. Good high fuel laptime is probably low-mid 1:45 and quali high 1:43 to low 1:44.

After a practice stint at Zolder yesterday I turned a couple of laps at Indy and Watkins Glen, no clue of the lines so Thursday will definitely be plodding at the back trying to follow others. I straight away thought Watkins was the better of the two, those elevation changes and cambered turns were great, Indianapolis seems a bit more awkward how some of the turns are set up and I'm not a fan of the braking points not being in meters. I've driven COTA in other games so hoping that experience helps in at least on of the 3 races these weeks.

Just registered for next week's races in SGP. Deffo gonna be available for that one.

I've got a suggestion, if I may:

How would you guys feel doing a 2 hour race after these? Two drivers per team (one 1h stint each) with a mandatory pitstop (refuel and tyre change) during the driver swap.

If we can get the Spa gang together again for this one, it'd be great. Let's aim for a minimum of 10 teams. Should be possible if we get the word out, I think?

Oooh, cool idea! It's a great way to try out team based racing, which frankly still terrifies me.
