This game is on the "extra" tier of the new PS+. I fancy giving it a go. How playable is it on a pad?

It's never as good as with a wheel and pedals of course, but not impossible. This might be a help to start with.

As an innocent bystander, but sufferer of previous collisions, it appears to me that us 'mukers have cultivated a culture where we do our utmost to avoid colliding with each other but still enjoy hard, fair racing.

Some of the new guys embody the main reason I don't race online anywhere else, the attitude of - "I'm coming through, either you avoid me or we'll collide - and it'll be YOUR fault.". They seem to think that braking later regardless of the consequences means they are obviously "faster" and therefore deserve the place.

Same for weaving in the braking zone, BTCC-style "push to pass" moves, defending blue flag overtakes like it's for position etc.

The problem is, there are no consequences for behaving like that. No points on a license, no grid place penalties, no race bans, no points deducted... so it'll keep happening. No other racing sim has cracked it with the only real solution being human stewards watching and applying penalties.

It's a shame and I hope it's not the beginning of the end of what we've got here.

(This post is brought to you by the lurgy, tea, and paracetamol so maybe slightly grumpier than usual)

The Spa race had a few random SGP entrants; from when we had the registration system open to anyone.   There was definitely some erratic driving from some of those guys; and when I joined the TSR discord after the race to 'say hi' it was noted that there was some erratic driving from some of the drivers towards the back of the pack.

I've had some great racing now with both the TSR guys (their Tuesday racing is a good standard, and when they've joined us), but also in the last couple of races with those that have taken the time to join us on Discord and sign up to the forum.  I think the guys that have joined us properly appreciate that they're joining a community; but the SGPs randoms do seem to be a problem.

Now that we do have the SGP registration system restricted to applicants that I have to approve, and only approve those that do join with on on forum & discord; I think things will be better.  It's just those members on SGP that joined when it was more open that probably treat things more like a typical open lobby race.

In future we do have the option of creating a 'championship' rather than a 'series'; which means we can password protect the event registration and lock things down to those committing a season (I know not everyone can make every race, but a general commitment).

Excellent thank you. Wish I had the room for a wheel set up.

They can be surprisingly foldable! But will possibly end up growing if you get into it, which is why I now have a surplus Wheel Stand Pro and have crammed in a whole seat and cockpit thingy into my tiny room.

(Since I mention it, I have a surplus wheel stand and a surplus steering wheel, but no pedals for it).

I Totally understand the fov situation, no problem! and I'm not trying to make a big deal here although It's exactly like you said "There also isnt space on track for a car on your right." and you're not far enough along side to justify a cars width, let alone trying to force it at this point. The track veers right, If I keep my foot planted I understeer on to the sausage kerb on the left, If we both slightly lift we both get through, everybody behind gets through then you can line up an overtake.

A couple laps after this I was side by side with a Bentley I think, he slightly lifted and so did I and we both made it through clean, I conceded the next corner because he had the inside line and I didn't want to go too wide before the straight or fight too much so the guy behind catches up and we kept it moving and I plotted my attack for further down the track.

Serious competitions and public servers I get it, I would have moved over and closed the door straight away regardless but league racing should have a little more discretion, I want the guy in front and behind me to stay on the track and I try to facilitate that as best I can because that's what I enjoy, fast lap times don't really interest me in this hobby, just racing!

Yeah its not big deal to my results or anything dont worry, I ruined my race again later anyway with a horrible pit stop and then locking rears when I lost focus and started to revert back to how other cars are driven. But do we have established rules on this? Because If you cut across when theres still overlap you will pit maneuver yourself. Even if you are ahead and thus "justified" to the line. Its even worse if you lift. I couldnt know you cant stay flat there or that you were about to move right.

Later I had T1 contact with a mclaren but that was my bad, he was slow and to me it looked like he was going wide or opening door to me but he was just a bit slow and taking very wide entry.

Personally I dont like F1 style rules where even when overlapping car that is ahead gets to take whatever line he wants to because I think that promotes squeezing and pushing off track.

What happened in the start? Two races in a row I’ve been fortunate to pick my way through some crashes, this time from a shit qualification of 9th up to 4th. Hung around there for ages unable to do more than tread water with a 3-4s gap either way. Eventually was among the last to pit so found myself briefly in first place and going fairly quick. Pitted and came out narrowly second but lost the place while my tyres were coming to pressure still. Had a good battle for the rest of the race, then the leader (Whacky Teddy, is he on here?) ate the Bad Sausage so suddenly I was back in second place again. He caught us up and did me with a colossal dive bomb/very brave manoeuvre -need to check the replay to decide- on the Crocodiles in the last lap, frankly I was relieved just to come out of that in one piece for third place. Maybe I should’ve done a more defensive line there.

So yeah, fairly serene for me but it sounded like tougher times again for everybody else? This kind of luck won’t last I’m sure.

@milko great race last night, specially the last 20 minutes,  really kept me on my toes, thought I had blown it with two laps to go when Arben let us past but I wasn’t sure he had seen us so lost 1/2 second to you and then watched behind too much last couple of laps…

Ah hey @Ian Paskin yeah that was awesome! Nice job also getting past me after I'd nipped ahead via the pitstops, gutted I overshot my braking point on the hairpin. It was really tense, I felt you might have a mistake in you if I could really get the pressure on for the last few laps but I couldn't stick close enough to really do it and you held it together more or less flawlessly I'd say. Congrats on the win!

For anyone interested in endurance racing. Next RCI season will be the EWC2 with 6 races starting in September. I think we will likely again enter 2 or maybe even 3 cars with 3-4 drivers each. There will again be pre-qualifying to set splits and we may again try to get all teams in the same split. PM me for invitation. In rllmuk we currently have me, Meers and Eurovapesim2 driving!

Morning guys.  The thread nearly dropped off the first page.  We can't have that!!  Here's the loose schedule for the next few weeks...

image.png.ccba8c8057436c0b5497ad03c35a6f1e.png

U.S DLC

We know that there will be 3 tracks released, so for the next couple of weeks we'll feature them all in some capacity.  The first week will be in the GT3s, then back in the GT4s for the second.  Thoughts on event format?  One idea is to feature 3x 15 minute races at each of the tracks.  A taster for the upcoming season.

Off Season

I'll be away for two weeks, but @Meers & @Valver are simracing.gp admins so can set up any ad-hoc races that you'd like.  Obviously that opens things up to not only ACC, but also Assetto Corsa and RaceRoom.  They do have AMS2 support, but it's listed as 'experimental' and based on feedback from community admins on their Discord I'd avoid that for the time being (the multi player support for the game seems quite broken).

Season 11

The new season of the league will start on the 4th August.   This will be a 'Transatlantic Challenge'; with 6 rounds at US and UK tracks.  The first 3 weeks will take in the new US DLC, before we fly back over for 2 races in the UK.  There will be a vote on the favourite new US track which will then feature in our season finale :)

Had a great day out of the Goodwood Festival of Speed yesterday, a highlight of which was managing to blag my way into sitting in the M4 GT3 race car they had on display :) The guy even put the mesh guard in place and closed the door. (Pix are before I got in)

Initial thoughts...

  • The doors weigh *nothing* - scarily light.
  • The real steering wheel feels more plasticly and lighter than my fanatec - and has fewer buttons :)
  • You sit lower than it feels in ACC with your feet higher up.
  • I really want to drive it!

Just reaffirming Erik's point here...

So, if you got about 2 hours (1 hour for racing, 1 hour for prep) spare on those Saturdays, then there's no reason not to join. 😄

I mean, there's a good reason that Erik is recruiting in here - you guys are

Yeah, I've got a bit of a problem with this...I'm away on holiday during the first 2 weeks of August. 😅

Yeah I got a week out in later August too. But 'tis the nature of the summer season to end up missing a race or two, we'll never avoid it for everybody. Looking forward to mixing new tracks in.

Yeah no need to reschedule it for me or anything. I'll tag along when I get back. 🙂

Suzuka is so damn hard. I've had my delta up faster, a low 2.02, but I mess up or just slightly break track limits. Can't believe how bad that valid lap ratio looks, but it took me about 10 attempts just to get my first one done.

Hoping I have time to do about the same number of laps again without pushing hard, might get the hang of it by then.

I'm going to need a lot of laps before Thursday if I have any hope of getting close to Dave's time. Seriously fast.

I'm in a similar boat to you, kept invalidating laps and just in the last few minutes yesterday I got into the 2.03s. Lots of laps to do tonight.

It is hard as nails.

Spent almost all session last night tuning my M4 (hence the low amount of laps driven). I've got my setup pretty much sorted - great rotation, eats kerbs for breakfast, stable and safe* all the way... but even though I'm thundering down the track, I'm still lacking in speed and consistency. I think the braking points where I can improve massively.

Anyway, it's my favorite track in the game (maybe even my most favorite ever).

* Maybe that's the issue?
